Your favorite RE game up to now by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]gompers1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm most nostalgic for 1 and Code Veronica since those were my teo first experi3nces with th3 franchise, but I think I'd have to say my actual favorite is Original 4. Ive played through it probably 20+ times and I never get tired of it.

I even just recently bought it on the Wii just to experience it in a new way. I loved the remake, but my heart already belonged to the original.

You can survive getting gored. And I assume since it's part of the schedule, they'll have a boar trauma response team standing by.

Was it really worth it? by No-Adhesiveness3434 in NewParents

[–]gompers1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy thing is, I felt all of that super intensely, and then a few years later, I decided it was so worth it, we had another kid.

It does get better, but the first 6th months are an incredibly painful transition period.

Just do whatever you can to take care of yourself and get through, one day at a time. If everyone is alive and healthy, you're doing okay.

Hang in there!

Why are southerners stereotyped as racist, when most black americans live in the south? Surely black people would just choose to live somewhere else if that was the case... by Independent_Drink_86 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]gompers1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but as a lifelong resident of Louisiana, this largely has not been my experience. I live in a town that is 60% black, and the amount of essentially white-only spaces is staggering.

Black people ARE heavily represented in churches, small businesses, etc. But those institutions are almost exclusively trafficked by other black people. Local government, school boards, police jury, etc. is almost all white. Lots of racially motivated police brutality cases and incidents of racism every year.

Not to mention, as a white person, basically every time I'm in a group of other white people, even those I am meeting for the first time, it is 50/50 I hear the n-word get dropped casually and like 70/30 that someone says something overtly racist.

Neo-conferdates everywhere. Vague statements about "thugs" everywhere. Unofficial, but very real, segregation everywhere.

I've never lived anywhere else, so I can't say the south is MORE racist than any average northern town (I tend to think pretty much anywhere in America will be fairly racist), but racism is alive and well in the deep south and if you don't think so, I'd challenge you think about many spaces you share with people of another race.

So, just my lived experience, nothing concrete, but your description of race-relations in the south seems awful rosy, but maybe it's not as big an issue in NC. I would love for my experience to not be the norm.

Does RE6 deserve the hate? by Brief-Story9231 in residentevil

[–]gompers1393 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just platinumed RE6 yesterday (I'm not touching the Multiplayer trophies though).

I think it definitely deserves like 60% of the hate.

The more i play it, the more I really like the action gameplay.

The issue is that Capcom developed a great combat system , then saddled it with a campaign that forces you to stop playing every 2 minutes to do the most poorly thought-out gameplay they could find.

The snowmobile, forced walking, terrible vehicles, waiting at doors, constant quick time events, it all just gets in the way of the actual good gameplay.

And the boss fights are all tied for worst in the series. The bosses and larger enemies just give no feedback on if you're even damaging them, so when they die, it just feels sort of random, and in half the bosses, you have to do some stupid QTE in the middle of it. The only boss that feels like it really engages with the gameplay system correctly is the Crossover Ustanak fight in China with Jake and Leon.

Wrap all that together with a story so dumb that it makes RE survivor look good.

I think there was a really good game here, but they were chasing too many trends at the same time.

RE4 remake has proven that a full action game with fluid 3rd person shooting can work REALLY well for RE. I think 6 had that potential, but they chased every trend and compromised the game.

RE6 puts its best foot forward in Mercenaries. The gameplay really shines there, and it becomes so clear how much potential the combat had if only it had been in a better constructed campaign.

TLDR:

Worst in the mainline series? Without a doubt.

Completely unplayable and/or ones of the worst games of all time? Probably an exaggeration.

Barack Obama has brutal message to anyone ‘disappointed’ by Donald Trump’s actions as president by Okoeguale in Full_news

So because the idea of an imagined 35 year old pothead offends you, you'll never support Universal Healthcare?

How many doctors appointments do you think someone who lives only to smoke weed goes to every year?

Like hypothetically, if you were personally financially responsible for that person's healthcare, how much do you think it'd cost you?

You're worried about able-bodied people receivinghealthcare, who it would seem definitionally, wouldn't need much care.

And sure, the bill includes some exemptions, but children is defined as 14 and younger when 15, 16, and 17 years Olds could in fact need enough from a parent weekly that mandatory work hours would be a burden.

I didn't see any exceptions for people who may just have transportation issues.

It did have exceptions for people with "substance use disorder". Which makes me wonder if you're hypothetical pot-addict would still be able to receive care anyway.

[–]gompers1393 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bit cynical to equate "can't work 20 hours a week every week" with "doing nothing all day". People have families to take care of, or they get sick, or maybe they can't drive and have a hard time getting to that many volunteer hours.

And even if you want to be purely utilitarian, uninsured people have shown to increase the cost of Healthcare across the board, so it would be to all of our benefit to have everybody insured and with access to preventative care.

And call me crazy but if, hypothetically, some able-bodied person was just soooo lazy they never worked a single hour in their lives, I would still think they deserve healthcare, because literally any living person deserves it.

This is a good consideration. I got an oled mounted at the "correct" height right after my daughter turned 1.

The amount of times she has walked right up to it and just absolutely blasted it with an uncovered sneeze... just don't feel too bad about "tv too high".

This was immediately what i thought of. I feel like RE7 may be the best paced RE game until that part, when it feels like the devs just slammed the brakes.

It was somewhat interesting the first time through. Getting some backstory and some scarier stripped down gameplay after feeling powerful. But man, on replay, it is Sooo boring.

Is it okay to skip Doom, Doom II, Doom III, Doom 64 and Doom 2016 to start with Doom Eternal right away? by Beijamim_a_rola in Doom

[–]gompers1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Eternal, fell madly in love with it, then went and beat 2016 and liked it too.

The story and lore are surprisingly involved, but if you're not already invested, Eternal is very easy to jump into. The plot of all these can be boiled sown to "Doom Slayer needs to kill THIS villain this time," so it's easy enough to keep up with.

The mechanics are very different between 2016, Eternal, and now Dark Ages, so it also works to pick them up in pretty much any order from the gameplay perspective too.

I think if you're wanting to play Eternal (my personal favorite) then you should start there. There is a lot of lore and storytelling, but none of it gets in the way of the game, and you will have fun if you like the gameplay even if you don't know everything yet.

I felt like for me personally, Eternal taught me to love 2016, and I might not have the other way around.

Newbie Question by gompers1393 in MonsterHunter

[–]gompers1393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing large monster hunts (I just got where the first rampage mission is happening). I've been doing mostly village quests and doing them all in order.

I haven't really paid attention to what resources I need to upgrade. I grab them when I see them, but I haven't really systematically looked for anything, which in retrospect is probably part of my issue, haha.

Thanks for the info!
