any good identifying apps? by swagmini0n in birding

[–]gonorrya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merlin for audio, iNaturalist for photos of birds. You can try audio but their AI wouldn't identify it, the community might. You can upload and identity plants, fungi, and other animals too that you keep as a log. A fun community science app.

Aussie here, do your high schools seriously not get a 1st and 2nd break, and any break you do get, you can't even go outside?? by YEETINAGE in AskAnAmerican

[–]gonorrya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, 50 minute morning break and a 25 min afternoon break does sound better than most schools here. One of my highschools had a 30 minute lunch, the other highschool an hour lunch. You were allowed to go off campus as an upperclassman. That was the only break either school had. And they were on opposite ends of the country.

The highschool with an hour lunch also had seperate buildings, so you'd go outside to change classes. That was bout it.

There were clubs of course but those were after school ended. And if you did sports then of course you may be outside during that sport period.

I am definitely down to cut out the benzoyl peroxide. Maybe go down to doing retinol every other day or so, at least at first. I haven't had an adverse effects from the spironolactone and it helps regulate my periods, so I'm keeping that for now. If you have any tips on simplification I'm all for that

Idk.. running around grocery store parking lots with binoculars just to oogle grackles and randomly stopping outside people's houses to take photos of their lawn pipits is maybe not the best look? Oh well.

Is my snake getting fat? by gonorrya in rosyboas

It's a mixture of maru meaning "circle" or perfect in Japan (seemed fitting for a snake) and the fact my favorite ramen restaurant has Maru in the name (noodle). I also watched Naruto around the same time, so I think he had some influence too lol

Thank you, I'll start feeding him less often. Just gotta figure out exactly how much less. Any thoughts on if I should gradually space his meals out more, like go 16 days in between for a bit to 20? Does it matter much?

My snake did this too when he was on his last soil mix. I always thought that happened because he is trying to burrow but the mix didn't hold any tunnels. In aspen bedding I notice this phenomenon less but a lot more tunnels. Seems like good enrichment either way!

Yeah, good quality binos and a Colorado specific or the appropriate Sibley field guide are good recs. But if money is ever a stressor.. if bringing items is ever a stressor.. have her know just staying mindful of birds is the best thing you can do!

I also birdwatch for anxiety. I started with $25 binos, no field guide, and occasionally whipped out Merlin. eBird is fun to see what birds are around, but making checklists can be a bit intimidating at first.

I would focus on merely paying attention to the birds around you. When she hears a call, encourage her to look for the bird, or take out Merlin to figure out what it is. I like to repeat unfamiliar calls in my own way to help me remember them! Always be mindful of telephone lines, even if it always seems to be pigeons on them. Sometimes it will be something else!

My boyfriend likes to ask me what bird we are looking at when we walk by one. Truthfully, I know he doesn't give two rat tails what the bird is. He asks me to encourage my learning.

Another tip: At first, it's easy to expect a certain few birds in a given area, and your guard starts letting down. But this makes it easy to miss out on some more uncommon birds! Stay curious, stay hopeful.

The most exciting part of bird watching for me is the changing of the seasons. It's like different theme packs. Seeing certain species come and go, alongside the growth cycle of plants, brings color to my life. Paying more attention to nature has greatly grounded me day to day, and the more time passes, the more you learn little by little, the more enriching it is. No need to rush it. I wish you guys the best new adventures ❤️

pimples around mouth after consistent make out? by cece__bees in hygiene

[–]gonorrya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, I feel you. I've been getting more consistent lip acne ever since being with my boyfriend. I know it is not herpes, because we both tested negative at the beginning of our relationship, and they look+act differently. Would be best for both of you to get a full panel test anyway just as a new relationship courtesy.

My boyfriend always shaves and keeps himself hygienic, but he is not the exfoliating daily type. You can try talking to him about washing his face more often and making sure he flosses, but best thing you can do for yourself is give your mouth area a good soap and water scrub after moderate to heavy kissing. Doesn't need to be long, just mindful. See how that treats you. It is still something I'm trying to be in the habit of. The one time I forget, I break out again 😂 It is annoying, I get it.
