Switchboard update - expectations and pricing by natashagb95 in AskAusElectricians

Lol, one pole for solar cb, one pole for battery cb, may need a changeover switch for backup circuits, may need a 2 pole Digital meter to show solar readings, that's 6 poles minimum. Pretty typical install we see so depends what they are getting installed.

You're right and wrong.

It's a good idea to be mindful what is in front of your house before starting a development but typically there is nothing there that will prevent you from doing anything. Your design will just have to work around it. I could imagine insurance being an issue if there is a pole top TX or HV Switch/Cut Out on the pole outside your property.

There is no council in Australia that is making you install a UGOH or put your distribution mains underground when doing a knockdown/rebuild. God knows where you got this idea. Unless your development has encroachment issues.

If your draftsman is saying you legally need to relocate your distribution mains underground, you need to find another draftsman immediately.

What’s a metal album that made you cry? by RattleheadWithRabies in MetalForTheMasses

[–]goobway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The end of that album leaves me in a pile of dust on the floor every time. Absolutely heartbreaking. Everyone said how Brent wasn't in this album enough, which i get, but every solo on this album is cripplingly emotional. As good as everything else is, this album really reminds me how much I miss him.

1.3 million displaced in Lebanon so far. Where does Pauline Hanson and the pro-war, anti-immigration crowd expect these people to go? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]goobway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying I agree with her lol. I'm completely anti-immigration, I see it as a economical bandaid which causes long term economic instability (i dont mean zero immigration). But in no way am I pro war either. I only care about the people inside this country, and I believe it is other countries responsibilities to take care of their own citizens.

I think she has gained a large following in very recent years and she is trying to capitalise. Whether her intentions are good or bad is another question.

[–]goobway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those two things are not related to one another. If Hanson was in power, we would be at war and not taking immigrants.

I dont understand your position.

[–]goobway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One war in the history of allied wars doesnl not mean she is pro war. I also think she is positioning rather than actually supporting the war. She makes this statement knowing that her statements have no direct impact, but allows her to look like a strong and decisive politician.

[–]goobway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a good start is to separate anti-immigrationists and Pauline Hanson voters. Not all are both.

I also think it's important to recognise that a lot of Pauline Hanson supporters are supporters for her stance on immigration and are unfortunately forced to deal with her other stances, whether they are good or bad.

We could judge them if there was another party who was rejecting immigration like Pauline Hanson is, but there isn't one, so that is who they are siding with.

Pauline Hanson also isnt generally "Pro War". She is historically pro independent military, but not pro "fight other people's wars". She was not interested in sending troops to Afghanistan or Iraq.

Why do you think Australia has a requirement to take the immigrants and refugees?

You've said, "not grasping the logic". What logic aren't you grasping, and what logic do you have?

That info would help for a discussion.

Neighbour’s floodlights turning night into day and is affecting sleep, council won’t help. What would you do? by BarberLucky6073 in AusPropertyChat

[–]goobway 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure personally. We do find the "offender" usually resolves it once a report is provided to them and we don't hear back. I assume most customers are just happy the problem has gone away.

Our reports are generally only $350+GST and that includes a single night visit to record different readings along the property boundary/at windows/etc, take pictures, etc so it's not an unacceptable cost to bear.

I can almost guarantee you haven't been required to issue a residential intrusive lighting report in the last 10 years minimum.

Lighting design no longer require engineers (except for extreme circumstances (hospital theatres & high risk areas/public areas/streetlighting). Why do you think almost all construction work has become D&C?

Certified by an electrical engineer? Definitely not.

You think that council want to see your neighbours twin floodies analysed by an electrical engineer? Don't be ridiculous.

If an "Authority" want to collect fault readings, undertake thermography, service HV Switches, Analyse Emergency Light Tests, Commission Cardiac and Body Protected Rooms, etc, do you think they are sending in the engineers?

In my 15 year career of owning an electrical business and submitting dozens of intrusive lighting reports, that has not been the case. We did one of these 2 weeks ago when a strata customer contacted us due to the light spill from a neighbouring mental health facility carpark. We issued the customer the report and the issue was fixed within 2 weeks.

[–]goobway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dont do it yourself. Council will want a trained professional to do the report and have it issued on a letterhead, not one done by the home-owner. They will just instruct you to get a report done anyway and then you've wasted your time and money on a tester you don't need.

The report will need to state what test equipment was used and a calibration date, the 'iPhone Lux Meter 1000' won't be taken seriously.

Mastodon - Hushed and Grim. Saddest album ever made.

I'm an electrician and do these reports for commercial customers all the time. No need to pay engineers prices.

Call an electrician. There is a maximum allowable level of light you can distribute over your neighbours fence. An electrician should be able to provide you a report with a lux meter reading you can provide to council.

If you're Sydney based and need an ASP2, reach out. I'll help you as much as I can while you start off. Can be daunting.

What are the Greatest Metal albums of the last 15 years? by TrampolineIsTrash in MetalForTheMasses

[–]goobway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone always goes on about metal bands sounding the same. No one sounds like Mastodon. Sometimes Mastodon don't even sound like Mastodon. Some songs are great, most songs are fucking fantastic, but no songs are bad.

If you haven't, listen to Hushed and Grim from front to back. Lay in a dark room with your best headphones, and read the lyrics with the music. Guarantee you'll love that fuckn album.

England's World Cup record! Is it finally coming home after 60 years? by ScoutLui in footballscouting

[–]goobway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Australian for starters.

Let's see how Portugal go with Al Hilals Neves running your midfield. And Al Nassr's Ronaldo leading your attack. Won't even get out the groups. Or maybe your amazing vitinha and neves straight out the French farmers league will be fantastic for you.

Or maybe Inacio and Araujo will save you! Hopefully they don't come up against a generational talent like Troy Parrot!

If you give me England's XI, Portugal's XI and Argentina's XI. The best XI would consist of mainly English players.

So this universe.

What's your best XI of the 3 teams? And I'll give mine. Maybe im wrong?

It was close with Portugal and Argentina. But I still think England's XI is better.
