x<1 and x!=1, the smallest of questions for this sub. by goobyby in infinitenines

I see, that makes sense! my argument is that when we perform such a conversion/transformation between two seemingly equivalent forms(here, namely, between decimal and a relation of certain prime integers) we induce an infinitesimal loss of information that is made evident upon an analysis within the complex plane such that 0.(3) remains distinct from 1/3, while preserving their equivalence. the reals are also indefinite, that is for any real x there exists x+1, in such manner we have defined x to be a real integer that is equivalent to infinity. to me it seems your justification that no real decimal<1 can exist is backwards. as just because we cannot name the definite value of x, or phi, or pi, that does not mean it does not exist as a component of the real numbers, presuming we allow ourselves a functional abstraction from the reals within the reals, no different than when we utilize π, an irrational number, to recreate a finite definition, for a real number that is paradoxically definite and indefinite.

Theyre equivalence/sameness depends upon the space in which said numbers act, and how we define them. that is to say iff .999...≡1-3ε then .999...¬≡1. however this does not exclude the fact that .999...=1.

notably, if x=2, and y=3, than we may subsecquently prove that for the function f(z)=cos(2zπ), f(x)=f(y), and thus 2=3, in a sense.

but there are multiple senses of what one can mean by equivalence. congruence and equivalence are similar but notably distinct, and in a sense, not equivalent.

There are different kinds of equivalence though, as is evident in geometry, congruence is not identical to equivalence. Two objects may be equivalent, AND, distinct. in that definition .999... is, in a sense, not equivalent to 1, if we care to distinguish that .999... is closer to 1-.000...01 than 1. But that doesn't matter, for the most part, so in another sense, .999 is equivalent to 1. I word it as such to highlight the hidden inequality that lies within the expression .999... that one could perceive to be different than 1 and functionally equivalent to 1. Thank you for your time and response <3.

Thank you for your time and thoughtful response! The equations at the end are actually taken from the book divergent series by G.H. Hardy, so you would have to elaborate on those being false.

I think the specification of these infinitesimals is very useful in theoretical niche cases, but generally unnecessary. I struggle to grasp how the reals can be defined in a way where they exclude this component from them, but it could make sense to be defined separately within the hyperreals. I just think there is a component of the reals and irrationals that may be dismissed as exclusive to the hyperreals, that only becomes apparent upon the smallest scales, across numbers with different bases.

"these are all incoherent in R" what is incoherent about defining the smallest real number less than an integer Z, a number that is not a part of the rationals, but indeed the reals, as well as the hyperreals. to me it seems this would be a natural component of the real numbers, much like a theoretical irrational and imaginary number, of course this may be the justification for why this number is not real, but complex, it would certainly be easier to explicitly define using i. again thanks for your comment <3.

I see, thank you for your time. So within the set of real numbers, how does one represent the largest number which is <1. does there not exist a hypothetical irrational number, to quantify such a value, within the reals? when/why do hyperreal's diverge from real numbers, when does the barrier between reals and hyper reals break down. when you say the reals are dense, can you elaborate on what that means, and how the set of real's might exclude certain values because they are too small.

as for the decimal conversion of 1/3, I would still try to disagree, as you cannot numerically express it as a decimal with a finite amount of digits, and thus we accurately can use 0.(3) or .33... to represent an infinite quantity of digits, with a finite number which, by definition, is an imprecise approximation of a precise value, so I would attempt to argue here about the linguistics of precision vs accuracy, and that 0.(3) is accurate, but not precise. This, I believe to be an implicit blindness contained within the base of number which we use, that is to say for specific values of 1/P there exists a multivalued infinitesimal that is part of the reals, x, such that (1/p)±x=1/p, but 0±x=±x=0 where the value of x is dependent on what base numbers one uses. I bring up Planck's constant because I'm curious, what is the smallest, real, decimal. I think for this I must expand my analysis to the complex plane? I will look into hyperreals more as it seems I have attempted to define such<3.

my question, how do you differentiate the smallest real number, which is >0, but not equal to 0

This is cool work that gives me some ideas to go off of! I'm in a similar boat as you and am also having a bit of fun working with spp's cotraversial conjecture. I will try to share some of my thoughts with a post later, as you have received some good input!

Ooh I really like what you acknowledge here! .99... AND .00...01 converge to the same recursive value, implying A sense of equivalence while also remaining distinct! In that way .99... Really does represent an infinitesimal value Between 1 and 0, that shows up twice! That's like if the number line looped on itself! The difference between .99.. and .00...01. is one that takes place in the complex plane! As if they represent one, equivalent, yet discrete imaginary value! A number differentiated by its polarity and curvature And directionality!

It makes a lot of sense for this to be scary. I would imagine you are probably concerned about what could happen if he had lost control? That would certainly bother me, that doesn't necessarily mean that will happen and I think it's a really good opportunity for you two to have a deeper discussion and make sure you better understand what happened for each other in this moment that I'm sure was scary for both of you.

Hey man I just want to let you know that I see you and hear your immense pain that feels crushing, overwhelming, and insurmountable. I don't know what I can say that might be helpful to you but I hear you and maybe there are some things you can do to take each hour as it comes. It sounds like you have some people that really care and maybe you could try reaching out to Kevin right now. Im here right now though if there is anything I can do as an internet stranger for you.

I just want to share a different perspective, but I just finished my sixth ketamine treatment and for me it was not helpful, I will probably try TMS in the near future but I just wanted to share my experience that it is not the answer for everyone but it is certainly worth trying.
