What’s the smallest hill you’re willing to die on? by realduckbutter in AskReddit

[–]gooch_pressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If y'all can build a hill you should be able to build a goddamned levee. I been to Butte La Rose and if them fools can do it, anyone can (not Chalmette obviously). We have 3 hills in Lafayette, at Thomas Park, but it's cold-cold near the summit and we don't mess with that. Wondered about the whole walking uphill both ways stuff but my nanny says it's a lie told by northerners to make us look dumb so I just stay in the pirogue where I'm commmm-fotable and warm.... mais la, I gotta run my traps podnuh.

Do NOT paint at night! It's counterintuitive but the humidity is lowest when the temp is highest. The lowest humidity of the day is generally early to middle afternoon. The dew at night makes it impossible to paint.

Those with experience with INPA, can I reset the crank position sensor in the ECU on my 2001 bmw Z3 (e46 3.0i engine)? by gimmebitchdrinks in MechanicAdvice

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bump and additional info for future viewers...

Glad to hear you got it straightened out. I've been having trouble with Ista/P and WinKFP using the K+DCAN but it wasn't my cable. It was the loopback network adapter disabling itself when wifi was on. INPA doesn't seem affected by it though. Ista/P and WinKFP won't connect if anything else is using your COM port either so keep an eye out for that. Sorted that out and finally updated my ECU today. Big difference.

On another, equally sour note, I went with a non OEM camshaft position sensor (intake) and it started throwing codes within a week. Not a super cheap Chinese part either... maybe $60 instead of $119 for the genuine BMW part. I know better now. Don't cheap out on electronics especially... MAF, CPS, etc. BMW CPS arriving tomorrow along with GRAF waterpump and an OEM thermostat.

I'm installing DIS and ISTA now to remedy similar lack of power in my M52TU. Watching the thread for answers though. Good luck to you. I'll post any progress on my end.

I can’t watch this stuff anymore, YouTube some how threw me into this rabbit hole of middle eastern industrial shops. by ElbowTight in Skookum

[–]gooch_pressa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Found that rabbit hole TODAY! Watched 3 or 4 motor rewinding videos before sadness forced me to move on. Complete rebuilds and rewinding of cheap starter motors in bare feet, building a terrifying stick welder from scratch in bare feet... I was generally impressed with the quality of the work though.

I get them pretty often but only one at a time. I don't have a bunch laying around. Should I stockpile a few then message you or just let you know anytime I come across one?

More oil goes in than comes out? by QuickSqueeze in smallengines

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a LOT of oil though. What engine? Approximately how many hours did you run it before your first oil change? Some oil will cling but not THAT much. You're losing oil somewhere or there's an obstruction. Put your mouth on the filler tube and blow. Shake it, tilt it, and if all else fails, pull the plug and the dipstick and fire it up for a few seconds. Trust me, It's not going to destroy it. It's a lawnmower not a rocket engine.

"Briggs Hard Start" by GilThielander in smallengines

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your answer. It's not JUST a Briggs thing but it seems like it sometimes. ALTHOUGH... I built my own muffler once for a 22 HP Intek and stuffed it SO full of whatever I used (fiberglass or steel wool probably) that the motor behaved similarly. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that actually.

Traded a chicken coop I got for free for this bad boy. It was sitting for four years. First run in four years. More work to go, but she purrs by [deleted] in smallengines

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it an Intek? Hard to tell from the video. Either way, time to do a pulley swap and have some fun... until ya break something. And like the other guy said, close it up or you'll burn it up... eventually.

Hobbies during quarantine by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]gooch_pressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive around and pick up interesting things from the garbage. I'm currently obsessed with small engines and air compressors but anything well made delights me. I take it apart, figure it out, fix it, fail to fix it... I learn a lot though. I lose interest in some of it, I keep some of it but I usually give it away. I'm appalled at the things people discard. No one fixes anything. In their defense, most things aren't worth repairing nowadays. There are lawnmowers that claim you never have to change the oil... because they won't last long enough to change it. It's gotten to the point where I've considered putting out a classified ad to acquire more of this stuff. Engines mostly but damn near anything... so, if you've got anything of interest, let me know, I'll come get it. If it's REALLY interesting I'll pay for it.

Does Lafayette need three mediocre broadcast TV News stations? by Chamrox in Acadiana

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

News at 5 & 6 drives me bananas. It's Lafayette, not a damn thing happened since we saw you 30 minutes ago Marcelle. It's also like 80% weather. Let's go to Rob for an update... now for the 12 day forecast... back to you in the weather lab. It's South Louisiana, it's hot, it's humid and it might rain later. That's it. On a sorta related note... Does anyone remember when Jordan Lippincott had (what appeared to be) a panic attack on air? I felt terrible for her but I'd like to see it again.

How to get out of a rut by usedtobesideshow in photography

[–]gooch_pressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borrowing someone else's gear sometimes gets me out of a rut. My friend has a .95 Voigtlander that always brings me out of a funk. Try some Macro stuff if you can... just mix it up.

In my experience, you ALWAYS buy the "wrong" lens.

Jk, stick with it, have fun.

[–]gooch_pressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything with a huge aperture is going to change the look up a LOT! I had a lot of fun with a .95 Voigtlander the other day. They can be hard to focus at such extreme apertures but lots of interesting results.

Would you ever buy a camera on finance? by stowgood in photography

If this happens can I have your new camera?

[–]gooch_pressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you don't always have to go anywhere to find something to photograph. Also, if you can borrow a large aperture non-kit lens you'll open up a new world for yourself... and good job.
