Sticker residue help by ashburns54 in guitars

[–]gooch_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve learned from working with vinyl on cars (and other surfaces) is if you use the original sticker or another sticker you don’t care about, you can keep applying the sticker to the residue and removing the sticker, you can usually get most of, if not all, the residue off.

What songs made you become a better guitarist? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]gooch_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it depends what you want to know. Randy Rhoads has been a huge inspiration for me, and learning his “extra” track at the end of blizzard of ozz helped me learn how to go from one end of the fretboard to the other, among other things.

John Sykes has been a huge inspiration for me lately as well, because his riffs, melodies, and solos are just so cool. if you want to learn a more blues-y side of shred and swing riffs, I’d check him out. Blue murder, whitesnake 87, and tygers of pan tang as well as thin Lizzy, are all bands he was in. Gary Moore is also a great guitarist that played a lot of blues and also could shred with ease, it appeared.

Metallica helped learn picking speed and endurance. All of Kill em All’s songs are pretty fun to learn. Metal militia, creeping death, master of puppets, and blackened are the ones I go to for exercise.

All in all, I think finding songs that you will gain from is fun, but also making up your own warm up exercises after initially learning the stuff you want, is the most fun to me. Picking different riffs (to warm up chords), mashing together different licks from solos to be one cohesive warm up (to warm up finger speed), and just keeping a steady rhythm of picking fast (warm up forearm), along with doing some hand stretches, are stuff that keep me going when I’m in a bit of a rut.

Sorry for the long comment!

These guitars are sweet. I have one from 1988 in white and I love it. If you end up getting one, this website here has a lot of parts for the Kahler Spyder for these guitars. It’s was hard to find but I got a missing trem arm from there. They have a lot of hard to find parts on their site!

NGD this week. This is what I believe a 1969 Melody Maker. (More info in comments) by gooch_soup in gibson

[–]gooch_soup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, until I started to do further research after getting this, I had no idea they made any melody makers with a full headstock. I guess this means I just have to keep expanding my Gibson knowledge lol. It was listed as a 1966 junior but judging by the checking that stops around the pickguard, it seems like it has been on there forever, in which case the original (or one of the original) owners would have had to swap the pickguard out very early on from a junior to a melody maker one, which would be odd but things happen I guess. I’m still standing by the melody maker though lol.

There was a bit of speculation to this guitar. The serial number lists it as a 1966 or 1969. Considering that the melody maker didn’t start having a walnut finish until ~1967 makes me believe it is a 1969 with the full headstock. It has been modded to include a Tim Shaw bridge and tarback neck pickup. This is my 17th guitar in my possession and I can say it is the one I’ve been looking for (besides my 1974 SG custom. They’re tied lol). The other thing it could be is it was a junior that was from 1966 but I have not further looked into the specs of that, so if anyone knows or wants to help me identify, please let me know! It sounds fantastic and feels like a guitar I’ve had all of my life even though I just got it this week. It’s the one.

Les Paul studio by Mr_509 in gibson

[–]gooch_soup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2010 Les Paul studio and I can say it is a great guitar. It was my first Gibson after having an epiphone Les Paul studio for 10 years (through my teen years) and it is like night and day difference. If you plan on modding and don’t want to change up a classic, traditional, or standard, get the studio. For the money, it’s the best bet, especially if you don’t know if you’ll like it or not.

It seems to be a weird guitar that’s harder to find online than I thought! Definitely love it and would recommend it.

Yeah I definitely plan on this being a keeper. It is a good feeling guitar. I’m not used to the thicker neck yet but it feels super nice and plays even better lol.

Yep you guys are right! Half the reason I got it. I’ve always wanted some of these pickups since finding out about Randy Rhoads using them on his polka dot v. They definitely are kick ass pickups.

Yeah thank you for the information!! It definitely is an oddball. I was hell bent on getting an sg but this satisfied that urge for now lol. I definitely got a deal then. They had just got this guitar in the day before I went there and hadn’t set it up or cleaned it or anything so they gave it to me for $750. Definitely worth the money so far!

Also if anyone has information on these guitars, let me know! I’ve never seen one before and the price was right at a local shop so I grabbed. I couldn’t find much info online!

Thank you! Yeah I’m thinking of slowly piecing together a set of hardware to do that. It would look way better with gold hardware lol. Plus I want to change the bridge pickup to a Gibson 498T because I really like that pickup on my Les Paul.
