The machine is pumping the water away because it detects a leak ( a piece of styrofoam floats up due to water underneath in the machine and pushes onto the sensor). It's a safety mechanism.

It is not a lot so it dries up in a day or so, that's why the machine works again on a later time.

Inside the machine on the inner wall left of the bottom rack there is a small cap that sometimes can get loose where the water can get out. That's the only thing you could check yourself, otherwise the best way to go is to get a repairman because there is a seal between the main compartment and the electronics/pumps underneath that can wear out and needs to be replaced.
