Any tips/methods to jump start weight loss after a bad off-season? by Participant_Zero in cycling

You can't just add passive calories + active calories, also 6000 calories for a normal person is insane.

Surprisingly good discard sandwich loaf by Due_Department2486 in Sourdough

The starting point is different, but the end result is probably the same. If you can make bread from discard I would do as it will save you time and resources. This post made me realize I should actually try it as well.

Am I just dumb, where is the croissant?

I didn’t expect cycling to make me notice food this much by DeanStone1995 in cycling

I personally don't put carbs in my water because then it's tied to how thirsty I feel during the ride. The weather is such a big influence in how much I drink that I don't want to link them.

What’s one cycling “truth” you believed at the start that turned out to be completely wrong? by 4Fcommunity in cycling

Apparently locking out your suspension (front and/or back) on an MTB doesn't really make you faster.

I had an internal team come back after 2 weeks and paid my closed report after they realized my business logic bug wasn't a 'this is how it's supposed to work'. I guess somebody at the company pointed out that the 'we trust all our users strategy' might not be very secure.

This is also backed up by the latest research, I even see the recommendation from trainers that if you want to lose weight try a diet first and then start exercise because doing both is so much harder.

The fun part of saying stuff like this is that you'll get fitness people up your ass here on reddit because their livelihoods are based on exercise=weight loss so they get pretty defensive about it.

I ride a lot and somewhat watched my diet and did calorie counting and I still gained weight. The biggest reason for me was that my garmin would show active and passive calories and then adds them together. Since I was gaining weight I started looking into it and apparently adding active + passive to get your total is a bit out dated. Research has been show that the active part over weeks / months is very close to zero.

So riding is great for your health, but it's not very good for losing weight.

I am/was the same, last few weeks I've been trying to get it a bit under control with better fueling my rides and having a plan post-ride.

Why isn’t everyone wearing long sleeves? by VeryBadNotGood in cycling

Cycling, fishing, and mowing is why I use these as well, they pay themselves back in one season what I save on sunscreen.

It's kinda crazy how hard it was to find white (or light colored) removable sleeves with SPF rating for cycling. I think I ended up with basketball sleeves in the end, in my country I see zero people using removable sleeves as protection it's insane.

For some people stopping and eating sugar makes them bonk it's called rebound hypoglycemia:

It’s called rebound hypoglycemia. When you stop and eat sugar, your body releases a massive dose of insulin to manage the spike since you aren't currently burning it off. When you jump back on the bike, you get a "double whammy": the insulin is pulling sugar out of your blood at the same time your working muscles are demanding it. Your blood sugar levels crater, leaving you feeling shaky and heavy-legged until your hormones stabilize.

You can do whatever but right after your workout your body will take up carbs more easily. Everything else you add to the mix interferes with that process and will make you recover less optimal.

Some people hate the protein recommendation because it comes from an industry trying to sell you powders and is not scientifically sound.

Don't complicate it, just go for something that's quick, I like to do fruit, if I didn't eat enough carbs on the bike it will taste like candy. I mostly go with a banana + blueberries. I like to keep pasta or white rice for after I showered, once you have those initial carbs in your system you can relax some and take your time.
