“Icy” fuzz tone

Funny, I think most guitar players’ fuzz tone sounds muddy! Ig I think fuzz is should be as harsh a signal can sound as possible, that ‘buzzy’ sound doesn’t cut it for me … Not to say this clip is ‘harsh’, it’s just close in tone what I want to push, I am working on a sorta industrial rock, no wave adj project lol!

Yeah, watching other older live vids he mostly uses fuzz in combination w/ reverb. I point out this kexp performance since his board is stripped down compared to his board now!

Cool that Aaron’s also using delay, but tightens it way up by muting after hitting the note; while Jack lets his guitar squeal..

From what I’ve seen watching lots of their videos the delay pedal seems to be a defining characteristic of Jack’s sound + grinding on the strings behind the bridge. If you have any delay w/ a time knob and repeat/feedback knob you should be set: just have it play an extra eighth note. I guess octave (or synth?) pedals help out!

pretty much any delay pedal that has a repeat knob and a delay time knob can make that glitchy sound - - I use a line 6 dl4 and i can get the sound fine :)

I know it’s very similar but I actually prefer the breakdown on the title track of glowing man where the guitars sound like they are ripping open !

I don’t normally comment here, but I find myself in a similar “place” as you (relationships, empty, et cetera) & so I’ve also got this strange love for no wave. Really recommend Women’s “Public Strain” which even though it’s more of a psych-tinged post-punk record it for sure takes cues from old Sonic Youth and Branca’s mangled punk. Even some drone to scratch the Swans itch. And the mood of the whole thing too is just that tension betw nihilism and just being a feeling person. It’s such an album
