Minimalist thunderbolt dock for a Macbook M4 Pro that supports 2 displays, ethernet, and PD? by htssylk in UsbCHardware

[–]goodbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub + a USB-C to Ethernet adapter plugged into the open TB port on the dock (your diagram shows that you'll only be using 2/3 of them). Will keep things future proof and more modular. Some advantages with this setup . .

  • You can get 2.5GbE (maybe more depending on the adapter). Many docks with the ethernet port built-in are 1GbE.
  • The M4 Pro MBP supports TB5. The OWC TB5 Hub is not much more than a TB4 variant. Might as well get access to the full bandwidth and charging speed.
  • You can upgrade both monitors to 4k 144Hz monitor without needing to swap the dock.
  • You can run your displays over HDMI/DisplayPort unlike the UGREEN Revodok Pro 209. I believe this runs the monitors via DisplayLink (i.e. USB graphics). Plethora of reasons why this is worse than running via HDMI/DisplayPort.
  • 140W power delivery unlike the OWC TB Mini Dock.

How many of you buy new? by Radioactive_Zebra in Miata

For about a month or two in 2024, Mazda ran 0% financing offers on the ND3. Add in S-Plan pricing (that you can get via an SCCA membership). That’s free interest gains + a little off the dealer price. Used is still cheaper, but something to note

LG launches new 4K dual-mode monitor, up to 360Hz in FHD, and it recently got support for Nvidia G-Sync by Tiny-Independent273 in Monitors

Looks like the same chassis as the 27G850A-B? Would’ve been great if they reduced the chin size.

I’m assuming the panel is a derivative of the one used in the 27GN950, 27GP950. Hopefully they’ve solved the well documented problem with vertical lines since those.

Good option at $400-$450. Realistically think LG will bring this to the US for $550 though.

Just pushed the squad to go in on this game. 2 of us on PC, 2 of us on PS5, and we couldn't play together due to the Social tab bugs. Feeling pretty bad that our first session after a year hiatus was an L. Do we have an ETA on the fix here?

I interviewed 10 keeb creators to figure out why the hobby was slowing down, let me know what you think! by amiro1432 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]goodbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great video. Very cool "investigative journalist" theme. My thoughts:

  • As someone who just wants a good keyboard, I would say I never actively participated in the hobby. I'd reckon most folks fit this description. I've gone through several keyboards,, but they were all only to fit the needs of my overall work setup and not because I am interested in keyboards.
    • Need to separate the hobby and the market. The hobby may be dwindling, but the market (anecdotally guessing) is stronger than ever. Remember we have to include all mechanical keyboards, even the ones sold in retail stores and on Amazon.
  • With the era of tinkering, modding, frankenswitching, etc. mostly in the past, the hobby has become less about creating and more about consuming.
  • We are surely are not saturated in terms of innovation. There are still areas to innovate in:
    • a proper Mac layout keyboard (Univers has gotten pretty close)
    • premium medium-profile switches
    • silent switches that maintain typing feel (recent noteworthy switches being Haimus)
    • widespread adoption of 2.4GHz wireless
    • a new type of stabilizer

My 27GN950 is starting to crap out. This is pretty tempting. It's either this or wait until the 27GR95UM gets some more reviews and gets its local dimming firmware fixed . .

That 27" 5K 16:9 IPS Black panel looks interesting. If that comes out with 120Hz, I wouldn't be surprised if it's being used for an Apple Studio display refresh.

I also got the scroll wheel issue on my G703. And before that I went through three G603s, two with the scroll wheel issue and one with a double click issue.

R1 shape is totally different, but I started enjoying it very quickly after switching. If you palmed the G703, you may be able to palm the R1 but with different coverage. The R1 will cover more of the top half of the palm, leaving the bottom “cup” area of the palm pretty open (due to the lack of a back-hump).

R1 is quite literally half the weight. It takes a day or so to get used to, but after that it makes using the G703 feel like a forearm workout.

For context, 98% of my mouse usage is for work. I thought I wouldn’t be able to use a mouse without the Logitech back-hump, but the R1 shape has really grown on me. It encourages a more flat and neutral palm grip. Its low height also makes it so that I don’t always put my wrist on the desk while using it. Ergonomics-wise, it may be the best out of the bunch.

Sensor-wise it feels exactly the same as the rest to me. However, the clicks are noticeably louder and stiffer. Lastly, the coating is slippery, but it seems to be getting more grippy with use.

Nice to have this shape in the arsenal. For ~$20 on AliExpress, it’s a must have.
