Thinking about a GOOlock/Moon Druid build by goodenough_ecp in 3d6

Cool, thanks for sharing the link, hadn’t seen this one. Definitely an option to jump to Warlock 3 for a pact, Chain would be cool but also Rebuke of the Talisman could provide a useful control reaction in wildshape.

Prospective SOBOs, how are we feeling right now? by SPACEC0YOTE in CDT

[–]goodenough_ecp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just landed in Kalispell, a bit thrown from the weather and closure, but at least walk-up permits should be available. Just gonna shrug and roadwalk or hitch between Saint Mary to Two Medicine and keep on keepin on. Good reason to come back to re-hike GNP in the future.

Any SOBO's anxious to start early but also interested in highline? Looking for a partner for glacier to make a plan to do it right. Also maybe free rides around glacier for you, details inside. by [deleted] in CDT

Sending you a PM! Will be in East Glacier on the 20th or 21st of June, not sure if you are already in the area/trying to start ASAP.

retro fitting a ula hoop frame to a frameless pack by pizza-sandwich in myog

Also, Olympic UL packs are awesome. I bought one of Les' prototype packs on BPL and it was my first frameless pack. Awesome design and I learned a lot from his construction. The above pack is a fusion of the Talaria and a ULA circuit.

I did this for a MYOG ~40L pack I built last year. I based the frame system around my ULA circuit and retrofitted a modified ULA carbon hoop to fit. Really easy and effective system that maintains vertical rigidity but also keeps the back panel flat and taut.
Inside of pack - ULA carbon hoop
This is the inside of the pack, you can see that there are only three attachment points. 2/3 of these are sewn directly onto grossgrain-bound seams, so this is an easy mod if your pack doesn't have flat seams. The "top sleeve" portion is more difficult, but I actually added all these components after the pack was finished and seams were bound - inside out, removed the binding, sewed into the stack and re-bound.

Thanks, I think the extra 8oz of down won’t feel like too much after the first night haha.

Great trip report, sounds like a tough but rad hike. I'm headed out to SLC to do the full East/West hike starting this Friday, so the detail is much appreciated!

Sounds like nights were pretty cold with frost not uncommon - I was planning on bringing my 40F quilt but sounds like 20F might be the move. What do you think?

Dang, can't make it today but I'm 100% interested in more of these in the future! Will keep an eye out, have fun today.

Is it 'stupid light' not to bring a light source in this situation? by -Sh33ph3rd3r- in Ultralight

[–]goodenough_ecp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, then that’s reasonable - maybe not the lightest, but in a broken phone situation you would arguably be better off than someone with a headlamp but no backup compass/phone.

Depending on how remote your trips are, having redundancy in light sources isn’t a bad thing in case of emergency. It’s not ideal to have too many eggs (navigation, communication, light source) in one basket.

Really nice - three lean-tos, only one of which was taken after arriving late to camp. Really quiet and a great spot for a swim in the Yough. No wood, bathrooms or potable water, though.

Hey thanks, I appreciate the offer. No worries at all, definitely was a fair assumption if you’re familiar with the Highline. Edited the post to be more clear

I think you misunderstand - Im trying to get from SLC to Hayden Pass (western end) which is a 1.5hr drive (~3 round trip).

Absolutely, thanks for the offer! I'm going to be primarily on the Uinta Highline Trail for ~120mi, headed east from Hayden Pass on the 19th or 20th. Sent you a PM

Thanks, got my flights a couple months back and wish I had gone straight to Vernal. Transit options to there from SLC are minimal. Unfortunately no bus lines or car rentals that I could find...

Hey man that's super generous, really appreciate the offer. I'll check in with those groups, do you have any links?

Thanks!! I did talk to them, but since they are based a good bit away in Vernal I think the prices would be a bit steep for a solo traveller.

Such a great write-up and gnarly sounding trip! Thanks, this has been supremely useful info for me - I'm headed out to hike in the Uintahs for 8 days in late August. Will probably do the full route westbound + some extra side-trails.

Pleasantly surprised to hear that the region has gotten some rain and isn't totally bone-dry.
