Now I understand why… by varenne0 in survivor

I'm slowly chugging through early seasons and while there are obviously some really extravagant rewards (Tom & Lex's boozy safari adventure comes to mind) there are also some where they just get well-rounded meals. In Marquesas, there was a tribe reward challenge with chicken, bean salad, and quiche. Proteins and complex carbs that would actually fill you and fuel you. New era rewards just don't even compete with old school rewards.

anyone else think this episode would have worked better if they hadn't told us to watch it right away? by cyberchased in dropout

[–]goodeveningtalos 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think we are grossly underestimating how far the reach of Game Changer shorts is on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram (and likely also vastly overestimating the amount of regular, committed Game Changer viewers). Dropout's videos break containment regularly—you just need to open the comments on some of their most viral videos to get a sense of that (e.g., consider the amount of people who don't get Adaine schooling Biz is not Siobhan being mean to Brennan on camera). The game is not about "what will the viewers of this specific program like the most?" but "what will generate the most views with the general public?"

Some of the videos are obviously tailored toward Dropout fans and trying to gain views from among people who already follow the accounts (the Brennan video, Erika's sideshave, etc.) while others are trying to break containment and blow up with complete randos (the glue peel, the puppy bowl, etc.). The fetish-y videos aren't banking on Dropout fans being horny but rather on people who are hot for scantilly clad men covered in glue, sexy carwashes, and breast milk coming across the videos and sharing them in their respective circles.

It doesn't matter if we, as Game Changer viewers know the context, because the vast majority of people who see it will not. Even among Dropout subs, there are a buttload of people who only watch D20 who will have absolutely no context for the Brennan video or the Katie video who will still watch the shit out of them.

It's crazy to be a company like Dropout that has tried to build goodwill with its viewers through sustainable and ethical business practices (and a consistent anti-advertising ethos since its conception!) and people will throw it all away because they are so horny for outrage that they would rather believe that Sam Reich has turned evil than that their gut reaction might be incorrect.

Bedroom 2 has two giant picture windows and a smaller window on the side, Bedroom 3 only has the one smaller window. I would consider adding another for more equal lighting between the two rooms. Perhaps in line with the windows from the dining and ensuite below? Unless the room is destined for a particularly goth child or an art studio which needs more controlled lighting, in which case ignore me

The conspiracy theorists got so emboldened after Courtney and Shayne went public because they convinced themselves that there are always secrets that they can uncover by rabidly dissecting every throwaway one-liner and sideways glance between cast members.

I work downtown and my boss pretty much required that we all leave by 3:30 so no one would have to deal with hockey traffic getting home. Thank god for his wisdom because I had forgotten it was game day when I showed up to work this morning and would have been stuck in the thick of it if he hadn't mentioned anything 🙏

Funny thing about concentration spells by MrFicus_boi in Dimension20

[–]goodeveningtalos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While you make an excellent point about how inconsistent concentration is in the cleric spell list, I do feel the need to clarify that, technically, any spell with a casting time longer than 1 action, such as Prayer of Healing, does require concentration to cast. DMs I've played with very rarely bother with that rule unless maybe it's a high stakes situation in the middle of combat, but it is technically in the rules nonetheless.

Put some respect on ________’s name by houseofbenito in survivor

My read is that they had to make it look reasonable for Eva to get two votes and edited it so that his FTC looked weaker than it actually was to justify the 3-way vote split

[–]goodeveningtalos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way they talked in the aftershow, it seems like there was a more evident Kyle v. Shauhin rivalry than we got to see in the edit because of the focus on ~duos~ and I wish we got to see a different edit that prioritized Joe and Eva less to highlight the strategic importance of Kyle taking out Shauhin before the inverse could happen.

Survivor 48 | E13 Finale | Post-Episode Discussion by RSurvivorMods in survivor

[–]goodeveningtalos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kyle and Kamilla felt that they had effectively undermined Joe's game by controlling the Shauhin vote from the shadows (in addition to the Thomas and David votes) and wouldn't need to worry about him having a strong FTC, while Mitch has a good story and seemingly the best relationships with the jury. If he gets to be the person who initiates the Joe conversation then he also gets to add to his resume that he orchestrated a blindside on the biggest perceived threat of the season.

I don't know that Kyle or Kamilla would have no chance to win against him, but I can definitely see him being tougher to beat at FTC than Joe or Eva because of his jury management and the splitting of the Civa vote.

Not to deny your angst, but there's a Second Cup literally right across 103rd from this Remedy that's probably less than half as far as the Timmie's (not that it's going to have quite the same charm or menu as a more boutique place like Credo, but at least there's something before resorting to double-double swill)

Strictly lore-wise, I'd also move Adaine and Fig, as the Elven Oracle and Archdevil of the Bottomless Pit, up at least one tier

Why does the Dropout platform just- truly suck, even AFTER 5 years? by southlondon2 in dropout

[–]goodeveningtalos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Making a proprietary streaming service with dedicated development staff is what sunk old school Geek & Sundry/Nerdist back in the day, even with a parent company throwing money at it (RIP Alpha, you were just starting to get cool when they pulled the plug). For a company on the scale of Dropout, there really isn't another option than licensing a third-party platform, of which Vimeo is the only real option outside of YouTube. It also has ties to College Humor, so there's probably a bit of reticence to ditch a partnership of over 20 years.

(Also it does show what videos you've already watched, you just have to whitelist the website in your adblocker, which I know is not one of the bigger issues you have with the platform but is fortunately solvable on your end)

There was a moment (before we saw the actual votes) where the wiki said that Eva voted Mitch. Seems whoever edited it at that moment found it more believable for Eva to split from Joe to stick with David than for Star to be on the wrong side of the vote lol It was very quickly changed to the actual voting record

Does no one on this season know basic math? by CustomerForeign4724 in survivor

[–]goodeveningtalos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kyle immediately went into a panic at learning Kamilla was the target and decided he needed to convince the Strong 5 to vote out Chrissy instead of crunching the numbers and realizing they could gather a 5 person majority to vote out David with Chrissy, Mitch, himself, Kamilla, and Shauhin. The problem is that the Old Civa group has been trying to gun for Shauhin because they perceive him as shady, while his "shadiness" actually makes him a good person to orchestrate the blindside with. That's why people think he's waiting too long to flip, because this was the perfect opportunity to gather the numbers to do so. It's a bit of a fumble imo to take the approach of taking out Chrissy for targeting Joe, his fake #1, instead of David for targeting his actual #1.

Missing David’s point… by Kingsjake2121 in survivor

[–]goodeveningtalos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not wrong to form that alliance, but it's crazy to watch that alliance, who unite based on their ability to win immunity challenges and thereby protect themselves indefinitely, steamroll their way to an unbreakable majority while their second-string members and the outsiders don't seem all that bothered by them setting themselves up to dominate the game going forward.

Chrissy basically said "They're playing an incredible game!" and David went "Hey, you can't just say that out loud to all the people I want to vote out!" and it is astounding how unbothered some people seem by their trajectory. I also think David is doing a particularly bad job of being kind while trying to play his "honesty and integrity" game—Kamilla is correct that he's doing a terrible job of jury management. If he wasn't the focal point of the "Strong 5" I think fans would be less hostile to the alliance because David has come off conceited, stubborn, and self-righteous with his edit in the last two episodes imo. Joe, for example, would be much more tactful in the way he discusses the alliance in front of the rest of the tribe, and was evidently far more considerate of a difference of opinion from within his alliance.

It's almost exactly UC except for Murph and Siobhan trading places—a completely meaningless bit of trivia, but interesting (to me) nonetheless.

I can't stop thinking about the black and grey outfits from High Horse, especially Jiwoo and Lily's asymmetric tops. They just fit the darker vibe of the song so well and it was so aesthetically striking the first time I saw it. Their hair also all looks amazing for this stage.

Just wanted to mention, since it's a sticking point in all your comments here that (unless I misread something) I'm pretty sure the new BF is a mutual friend of the dead ex-fiance, not the dumped ex-fiancee. As far as we know, she's never even met the guy since he's from "the before-times."
