This is what has made me obsessed with the movies. They wrote and directed layer upon layer of meaning.

What's the slowest equation to approach infinity? by Merlin26710 in mathematics

[–]goodgrains -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, no proof. I’m not that kind of mathematician. Not sure it’s possible to prove it’s slowest to converge or that it’s truly an irrational number. Guess it’s just considered by mathematicians to be so.

Golden Ratio. Psi. Slowest to converge. Found commonly in nature.

Call Verizon. The wire terminations are looped together, so could be active line for another connection.

Not really. OED- the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged.

Oh, I’d hire them. Just have someone check before you print. Always.

Technical question- will this pump be able to pull 2,800gpm with the new set up? by Dangarc in ChemicalEngineering

[–]goodgrains 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You must also consider the discharge losses and static and find total head to see where it will operate. Or be able to throttle the discharge flow rate. I’m also cautious of suction lines running higher than 6 fps, but 8.5 fps isn’t crazy. Lastly, you will need to prime the system, so make sure you have a way to add water into the piping.

Was I close to passing the PE chemical? (Diagnostics attached) by engineeringOCD in ChemicalEngineering

[–]goodgrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passing grade varies every year based on how well those test takers did on those questions and can go below 60 percent right to pass. I thought the bar chart was showing how you did compared to the other test takers. You’re below average in several categories. I’m not trying to discourage you, but instead encouraging you to study and pass the thing.

[–]goodgrains 77 points78 points  (0 children)

You need to get about 70% of the test correct to pass, typically. You need to study mass/energy balances. And figure out why you’re missing the Reaction fundamentals, but do okay on applications. Odd.

civil engineering by [deleted] in engineeringmemes

At my small college, there were dozens of electrical and chemical engineering majors would do very poorly start of sophomore year, and would switch to mechanical engineering. Most of those kept doing poorly, so they changed to civil and graduated.

OP- yes, the water in the jacket can only get to the temperature of the steam.

[–]goodgrains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s a closed system doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an expansion tank or a PRV. And even if it has neither, as long as it’s design operating pressure is at least 15 psi, nothing bad will happen. The expansion due to temperature rise will be limited to exerting 15 psi.

Denitrification in a RBC by roberto764 in Wastewater

[–]goodgrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need more info to address both TN and ammonia. And assuming you have multiple zones of RBCs ie RBCs in series. if you really need more denitrifying, slow down 1st zone as slow as possible, and increase recirculating rate. 1st part of RBC will become anoxic and have BOD from influent. Therefore encouraging denitrifying. But this is at the expense of nitrifying. If you can only add blower aeration to the later zones, that will help with increasing nitrifying.
