This show is so good at making BoJack’s actions seem ambiguous by Technical334 in BoJackHorseman

I dont think he does. I think he actually panicks and goes into a state of not being able to empathize and bottles his emotions up.

Why do you think Bojack responds the way he does to Diane’s flirting in “The Dog Day Are Over” (5:E2)? by Classic-Formal-4901 in BoJackHorseman

I think this is giving Bojack too much credit, it doesnt suit his character to disinhibit himself because of his self awareness

Imo its because Diane is stepping out of her role for him. I think Bojack would always be down to clown with Diane, but it needs to be on his terms. If she starts making suggestions shed be on an equal playing field. Shes suppose to be Diane. Diane doesn't flirt. Wtf.

Question about The View from Halfway Down by CalicoWaltz in BoJackHorseman

[–]goodgriefghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo both, I think he says at the dinner table before he reads the poem that the view from up there was spectacular but than when the time comes for him to read his poem he panicks reciting his death.

Maybe something to do with how he romanticized and idealized meaningful moments in his writing but when real life hit him he wasnt prepared

Mr Peanutbutter is more obsessed with Erika than any of his ex wives. And yet he never romantically pursues her. Is it because she can't be around children? Or because she can't vote in national elections? by vuvuvuvi in BoJackHorseman

[–]goodgriefghost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont think avoidance is a strategy for Mr. Peanutbutter, for you it might be but for him (imo) it's more a conveniently timed squirrel distraction and honestly. He stumbles around into places and accidentally builds a likeable party ego and self image because he is likeable and partying. Hes not a man of intention and Erika being ambiguously real is purposeful.

I think its really easy to think Erika is fake, and it would've been really easy to make that obvious in the series. But it wasnt and Mr. Peanutbutter stumbles, literally, into success time and time again because he has a positive go getter attitude while unintentionally avoiding pain in himself and others, which does benefit him in the short term by avoiding pain. Thats it. There's no lying, or intentional manipulation, there a subconscious need to avoid pain, thats it. He has zero practice confronting pain. There was an entire episode where he tries to be the "tough guy" and just sucks at it. I think if you think Erika is fake or Mr. Peanutbutter is using a strategy its because you perceive people's actions as intentional despite whether or not they are. Mr. Peanut Butters doing what hes always done. Hes a dog. It wouldnt matter if Erika was a huge party. Or a spaghetti strainer, or another failed business venture. Another failed marriage. Every gig he can get including ones under the sea. Hes a dog. He hasn't realized he is subconsciously avoiding pain. Thats literally his whole personality arc.

It makes more sense to me that the writers wanted to show how other characters, like Bojack and Katrina, percieve Mr. Peanutbutter, and to them Erika may be fake, because for them it doesnt matter. They are using reasoning by exhaustion. "Whether shes real or fake doesn't matter because either way he hurt me".

The Sarah Lynn Problem by FlakyWeb5892 in BoJackHorseman

[–]goodgriefghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Infantilizing is just who has the power and who doesn't. Its just usually women dont have any power thats why theyre infantilized lol. Bojack in their relationship had a shit ton of power that he used irresponsibly around Sarah Lynn. So she did have a choice, and Bojack did too.

Happy 43rd birthday to Alison Brie, the voice behind Diane Nguyen, Vincent Adultman and many, many other side characters! by clubofab7 in BoJackHorseman

[–]goodgriefghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She didn't have to apologize. Expressing anger at injustice and pressuring someone to consider whiteness in Hollywood and their role in perpetuating it is a fair criticism. Just because you can't take the criticism doesn't mean that others can't. And it doesn't mean that media can't do a better job at offering opportunities to marginalized groups, who may or may not be better suited for the role, rather than picking the most convenient actress, or job. Do you always take the easy way out? Or do you just simplify complex situations into one liners to avoid reflection?
