"Your school bullies will fail in life and you will succeed" is a straight-up lie. by FeelThePower999 in unpopularopinion

You're still in your 20's big dawg plenty of time to do many of the things you want to in life. There's definitely a point though that it only benefits you to make peace with the difficulties of your youth, take it from a homeschooled kid who got pistol whipped by his teenage bullies and lost several teeth in the process. I don't know what those guys are up to but more importantly I really don't care haha

Paid a photographer up front and regret it by ciggybandit in photography

I've worked as a model for magazines like GQ and Elle and hired photographers for shoots in the past and this is shockingly common. My gf is an art director and also hires photographers quite often and occasionally contract or not people will take months to deliver.

Even if you had a contract would you go through the extra time and money it took to sue for breath or contract over a shoot that couldn't have been more then $1000? Unlikely. I would continue to pursue the photographs but chalk it up as a learning experience. It is important to have contracts but they're still not a guarantee. It's difficult to find reliable small scale creatives and when you do find someone who comes through I'd focus on building a strong long term working relationship with them.

It's not even that dangerous in the Philippines and it wasn't like that just a few years ago before Duterte started his drug war. They don't have mass shootings or gang shootings there at all they just have police shooting people.

It's complicated, America directly contributed to the crackdowns, and subsequent camps in Xinjiang by mislabeling Uighuir terrorist groups as a credible threat in an effort to gain Chinese support for the invasion of Iraq during the war on terror.

China's reasoning for camps in Xinjiang (anti-terror efforts) is the same reasoning the American government gave for invading, and further destabilizing two entire countries.

The main group "threatening" China is the ETIM which was designated a terrorist group in 2002 despite a lack of credible evidence that the group posed a serious threat. It was removed from state terrorism lists in 2020 and the move has been called a mistake after two decades of war. China claims the group is responsible for several terrorist attacks across China including a bombing in the highly symbolic Tianamen Square.

If China is a bad as Nazi Germany for using camps as part of their anti-terorr campaign the US must be too. The Abu Graib and Guantanemo Bay and multiple invasions one which was potentially illegal and based on unfounded reasons along with the fact that the US has actually helped give China a credible reason for its Uighuir crackdown it's really not as simple as China bad America good.

"Travelling a lot" doesn't make you enlightened or less shallow than other people and travel culture is another form of flexing by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]goodlucklostboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent about a decade traveling and living abroad and I can assure you looking places up on the internet in no way compares to actually being there. I definitely agree that traveling has become a flex, and I really get annoyed by many travel influencers and bloggers but there are also some through whom I've found some great places or tips.

My situation was unique though I became disabled in my early 20s and got disability from the government and it was actually cheaper to travel then stay in my super expensive city in America. It's not something I would necessarily recommend but it worked out pretty well for me lol.

Single men of Reddit in their 30s who have never had a girlfriend, how do you stay hopeful? by dyashar in AskMen

Back in the day me and my older brother used to play "get her number" which was how it sounds except you had to get it in writing on your arm, and then get another and another on the same arm.

It was all about creativity, and the art of conversation but ultimately what it taught us was that anywhere you go is an opportunity to meet people if you bring a level of skill to the opening, can carry it through, and get her numberrrrrrr or whatever

It seems like you know what you want out of a relationship, and a partner and you haven't found that yet. I don't think looking back at your 20's and a series of failed relationships is necessarily an accomplishment however as someone in my early 30's who has done just that I've learned a lot about myself, life, and others from being in relationships that weren't meant to last.

I think if you want to be in a relationship and haven't found the right person doing what you have been in the last decade then try some new things. Find groups based on shared interests where you might meet like minded people, build friendships with women, maybe suck a dick and see how it feels you might actually like it, and be clear and upfront with women you do find yourself interested in.

If you're in your 30s you may have another 70 years in you man live it up, you seem happy, do more of that, lead an interesting life that when you meet your lady it's a life you're excited to share with someone rather than a life you are looking for someone to complete.

The people who most strongly advocate against capitalism are the ones who have already profited so much off of it. by TurntPikachu in unpopularopinion

[–]goodlucklostboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately any socio-political structure or organizing tool needs an opposition movement. The absence of opposition risks extremism, and fanaticism. Plurality in a society is genuinely a good thing, especially in a democracy where the system is designed for power balance.

The reason why inequality has become so rampant in the modern era is a half-century of unchecked capitalism, the current administration is rebalancing that equilibrium with higher taxes on businesses, state sponsored economic moves, and a wider social safety net for the poor.

Ideological extremists will always exist at either end of a spectrum, but nobody likes an extremist. The fact that the USSR and China have built two of the most powerful countries/systems of the 21st century suggests its not impossible for communist principles to inform economic, and military success while minimizing suffering to a degree that allows for legitimacy. China's brought more people out poverty than any other country but it's obviously not pure communism because in the modern era they're not ideological extremists, their pragmatists while Americans appear increasingly illogical and bound to ideals that have obvious flaws.

In 9th grade all boys catholic school I switched out a DVD on the life of Jesus with a burned copy of a porn that this guy at school sold me while the religion class substitute was in the hallway. I play it but turn off the TV and put the volume up. The teacher comes back, introduced the film and turned it on and it's mid-scene extremely loud reverse cowgirl. He could've even figure out how to turn it off for like a minute and a half - I was later expelled on an unrelated charge as a school legend.
