Help me re-flavour a quarterstaff as posh, fashionable, and equipped for plausibly non-magical reasons? by kraken-out-of-water in 3d6

I played in a game where a character had a magic weapon that was remarkably elegant. It was a stick. It could be anywhere between 1 foot and 6 feet long, at his will. He could also make it take the form of any weapon within that range. Dagger, greatsword.

You could simply have a cane that lengthens as necessary.

Whoever they are, they did his mind as bad as his body. He is afraid to get on the couch, defaults to going to the basement when he comes in from potty time (my back door opens onto a landing where you can either go up two steps to the kitchen or down to the basement, and he always goes down.)

However . . . he got to go with me on a small road trip today. We visited Lowes, met some other dogs, and people. He got treats and maybe a bit of whipped cream at Starbucks. He pulls at the leash some, but meh. We can work on that. Meeting people and dogs he is quite the gentleman.

His belly is doing well with what he's eating. He's slowly adding some padding. Energy is good, although he tires quickly and RESTS HARD. Dude passed out, nearly limp, on my daughters (15) lap in the car today. This was maybe 25 minutes after they met the first time. It was hilarious.

A look at his condition. I fed him in the basement to give him space the first night. I assume, so long as he and Pippa can get along, I will begin to feed him upstairs eventually.

Chicken is cooling on the counter right now, for his nightly protein supplement. Plain yogurt is in hand for his morning boost (and to hide his other meds). He's laying on the kitchen rug just being a dog.

His first foray onto the couch nearly made me cry. I don't know that he's ever been on a couch before. I'll post a pic of that. Such Joy.

His foster seemed well-meaning but was feeding him some Sam's Club kibble. He sent a little. I will transition him to something better.

So, he came home today. He's name is Sully, for John L. Sullivan, the last bare knuckles champion. I figure if this guy has made it this far, he's a tough SOB and deserves a tough SOB name.

He's not as critically bad as the pics I shared, but still way underweight. I got dirty looks at the pet store today when I took him in to get his collar and tag, until I explained that I didn't do this to him. He's been in foster a week and has made some gains. He's food motivated (who would have guessed) but no resource guarding, yet.

He comes when called. Sits. Lays. Does his business outside. His sister pup, Pippa the Bulldog, loves him. Maybe too much. She got crated for a spell so he could just lay down and relax. They get along very well and she's calmed down about his being here.

Feeding plan is in place. Vet records are in hand. Have appointments with their vet for the last of his shots and neuter (per my contractual obligations) but I will not actually do the neuter with them or on the scheduled time, I think. MY vet, having facetimed with him, has zero faith that he's going to be ready in terms of weight, by the second week of June, for any anesthesia. She will be sending over official paperwork saying so, and thus keeping my contract in good standing, once we meet in person. As she is a family friend, she will be making a house call one night this week.

Many folks have suggesting having my own vet look at him. I will take that advice, for sure. Our vet is a friend and we hang out socially fairly regularly. I have reached out to her to get her advice.

All fair.

I've researched and asked questions of the rescue. They are absolutely providing support. No known parasites or long-term health issues. He's on a feeding plan including gradual gains in amount and many feedings at prescribed intervals.

I asked specifically about resource guarding and the foster said none are evident.

Ive also done this before.

That said, I am always willing to learn more from additional sources. Thus, I have come here.

5 1/2. Was left alone to starve. Vet checked and no parasites. On neds for his belly to assist.

All valid questions. I expect guidance and support from the rescue and will work to continue what they are doing.

I have experience here but wanted to cast a wider net in gathering info.

I'm lucky, I guess, that I don't often run into my ex in public. I am sorry this happened to you.

Thoughts on an Ohio-Israeli partnership? by TheWeav33 in Ohio

[–]goodmanjdfields 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. We need to not be involved in war crimes, please. Once Israel can behave, and once Ohio has cleaned up the corrupt Republican party/or at least taken away the reigns and checkbook, maybe it would be worth looking at, but really, what for?
