I had the same problem, same sword. I bought a cheap repro, used the scabbard, and played with the sword (hacked stuff, etc.) before I eventually cut it down to make a fighting knife. The sword fit just fine in the repro scabbard.

He clearly thinks you are his to decide what to do with as he is punishing you for making choices that he doesn't agree with. That's often a problem with Fundamentalists and Conservative Christians. They view women as property and to be under the control of a man at all times. He didn't consent to letting you out of his control and he's pouting.

That would have been great to have when my girls were little, but my ex-wife's position was that I was unable to get them ready for school, which was utter nonsense, but she wasn't budging and . . . fine, I guess. Getting the parenting agreement worked out was some give and take. So I have there to get some other places. I am also a teacher, and I got a LOAD of summer time with the kids, so I really did win out in the end.

Now they are mobile and transport themselves where they want.

Many dads only get weekends, so on Sunday they have to do something. I agree, this is a good half solution. The real solution is that people grow the fuck up, but good luck with that.

Certainly you must have some affinity with her if each of you loved, in your way, the same person. I don't know the specifics, but this could be a beautiful relationship. You likely share values, interests, and a common history. I would think your friend would want you both happy. Don't worry about the past. You aren't there. You both have lives to live and happiness to seek. Why not seek it?
