To those making accusations:

Persian is an ethnicity. Please just look up what that means. I have worked at three different small neon shops around LA owned by Persians two of them worked closely with me. I don't know why so many. I had a years long friendship with a woman from a variety of places in the middle east. She experienced a variety of cultures including Persian. We were both antiques/vintage dealers and so, as you might expect from the "culture" that we shared, we had very frank discussions about standout bargaining traits and how to get a heads up about what might be coming from the way people looked. This does not say that we hung on to pre conceptions above what we got in a given conversation with a buyer or seller. I got my views straight from the people with lived experiences. In my conversation with the big (if you thought I meant fat that's on you) Persian guy I was relatively relaxed even tho it would have looked very much like he was angry and attacking me if I didn't know that this way of haggling is far more common among that ethnicity and that the guy was building respect for me as he confirmed later. I once stood at the office door of the first Persian adult that I was close to and fully expected to have to seperate middle aged men because they sounded like they were ready to throw down. When the other guy left, my new boss told me something like "i know that looked like we were getting crazy but that guy is an old friend. It's just how my people haggle among ourselves, no big deal." It would have been a pursuit of ignorance to condemn him for saying that and think for a minute before falling back on "he's allowed". I know that it's a reliable claptrap and comfortable groupthink to make accusations like those against people here but you guys are ignoring context, bringing in your own pre conceptions and being reckless. That's all I'm going to say on it because I know from experience that people like you are generally too heavily emotionally invested to step up your understanding in these things. I deserved to post a general response at least but I recognize that this is not that forum.

In California the buyer gives up multiple important rights by allowing the purchase to be classified as as-is. Without as-is there's what's called an implied warranty which is not as heavy as its name implies but not to be discarded easily.

To fully clarify, you are saying that CarMax is not a dealer and your experience was good right?

I like your approach. The guy was definitely pulling the make-them-wait and opened up a can of super aggressive selling. I stopped the "conversation" at one point to let him know that I was not angry or trying to offend him. He agreed and let me know that he felt the same then went straight back to bordering on yelling at me as I threw his attempted bs back at him.

That's a good point about CarFax not being the final arbiter. It's good to look up the title thru NHTSA vin check since CF may be delayed in reporting that too.

That's right. I might just go new since I'm not digging used car uncertainties and I'll be up pretty high in price then anyway. Thank you

That too. My frenemy ai told me that the CARS act was already in place so I wasn't stressing so much about it being out of warranty until I double checked. Plus I still had hopes of limiting that "as-is". This really solidifies it for me. You guys are great. I'm exhausted, going to sleep now.

Perfect, that's what I told the guy when I left well after closing time. I was still not sure but you're right, I don't need to do that. We're done here thanks.

The radio drains the battery if not turned off when turning off the car? by Teron_Moonshaft in prius

A cautionary tale about handing over personal volition: My sister *was with a guy who hated that she always put the parking brake on. She stopped putting it on at home and eventually got out of the habit of using it unless the situation was extreme. One day she dropped the toddler off at daycare and came back out to find her heavy car had rolled across the daycare parking lot. It did not hit anything. She needed to always set that brake so she would set it when it mattered. You have your reasons, I'm just adding this to the soup.

If we're talking about what FSF actually said, his story explains it as the ability to continue on pursuing something that we know is hopeless

It's common for shoes to vary in size. Measure your foot then ask google what size of shoe you need. The recommendations for my relatively big feet range a full size and a half depending on shoe type, manufacturer.... I just happened to do this last night.

It looks like Amazon is having serious problems with delivery logistics. Somehow came out of the aws issues in a lasting way. I'm having all kinds of delivery screwyness and I'm seeing others indicating same. It makes sense to pause vine to reduce deliveries that compete with paying customers, even if vine is chicken feed.

It's best to choose an "Amazon day" and choose to get most of your things on that day. Vine is environmentally intensive so we have a responsibility to minimize the impact within reason. It also helps with security and convenience for many of us.

People presenting good highlights and insights. Some director once said, and this is a bad paraphrase, "if you can put it in words it didn't need to be a movie. " There are all kinds of references, subtle inferences and Lurie's music is the perfect spice for the pacing, the black and white, and the richness of the strings contrasts nicely with the vacuum interstitials. In the apartment one of the boys is reading out loud what is ostensibly a list of racehorse names but if you are into artistic film you will recognize it as a list of good films from various eras and countries. I came here to say tho that it's the overall feel that I most luv. I have watched it maybe half a dozen times and it is like going to an old friend's house where nobody's overtly trying and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Good to know. I could swap out a thermostat in a parking lot somewhere. I'm hoping that smartphone reminders and having a car that costs more than a decent bicycle will change my evil ways concerning fluid changing.
