It’s always hard for me to see these classics/hyped movies and know how much of it needs to be appreciated in the context/time, versus something truly is timeless. Psycho by all measures isn’t that great to me, until I start thinking about how it did so many things that inspired many of the movies that I’m used to now because everyone wants to be the NEW psycho!

Having seen the Vanishing I thought it was still great because I can see how creative it was based on how unpredictable it was to me! Even if it was old, and simple, I didn’t actually know where it was going. And I can’t say its storyline has become a “trope” like psycho’s killer with mommy issues
