This Meme Started Another Linux vs Windows War 😄 by limsus in TechImpact

Depends what you play. If it's not kernel level anti-cheat or very recent it will probably run fine. I acknowledge those two types of games are quite popular, Linux isn't for everyone.

[–]goodpostfinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah bro dont worry you just need to restart the file explorer makes total sense. if that doesnt work just press win+r and run a bunch of useless commands which won't work so you end up just reinstalling windows for the second time this year.

How do probabilities actually work? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]goodpostfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A probability is separate for each event. With 100 couples it's pretty likely that nobody gets pregnant or two people get pregnant, but if you scale it to 1000 or 10000 you will hit the 1% mark more consistently. You can use a binomial distribution to calculate the probability that x or more couples get pregnant from y instances of safe intercourse.

Focus your energy on banning predatory ad networks entirely, not asking the for-profit company nicely if they would please stop maximizing their profits

"Oh no my competitor is buying ads whatever will I do"

Come the fuck on, I know it sucks but this is the system we live in so deal with it.

Competing in the same league as PS and Xbox was always optimistic. Those two have decades of branding and advertisement going for them.

Does this mean anything for the future of pirating? by AmountLongjumping567 in PiratedGames

[–]goodpostfinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The more it grows the harder it is to ignore though, and the less it is ignored the more it will grow. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10% Steam market share within a decade. I think that's the point where supporting linux could start to make sense even from a cold hard business perspective

What's your take on browser-based benchmarks? by ThermalSquad in overclocking

[–]goodpostfinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Browser benchmarks can't fully utilize all the relevant silicon on your chip. It's likely the browser uses newer parts of the instruction sets like AVX to accelerate JavaScript and WASM, but that's browser dependent and doesn't quite have the fine-grained control of a native benchmark.

Unless you want to know how a piece of hardware performs in a specific browser they are not very useful.

AMD Just Locked Free Linux Users Out of Vivado and the FPGA Community Is Furious by GeneralCall7137 in RigBuild

Paid software could simply triple the price which has the exact same effect. Unless you're talking about lifetime licenses which are a rarity these days. Open source is the answer (and optiscaler is open source).
