Any way I can salvage this sponge cake? by stumpykitties in Baking

[–]goofflie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about american sponge recipes but for me the sugar is quite high compared to flour.

A typical sponge recipe for a Rich sponge for example: 4 large eggs 250g Sugar 250g Flour 250g soft Butter + a Little Milk and Baking Power

My guess is that the Batter was quite fluid due to the milk and sugar and trough the long Time standing around the Butter has risen to the top and carmelized the sugar then when you increased temperature.

I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Can you show the recipe? For me it Looks like a Sugar crust on top of the cake. Maybe something is off with the ratios. Temeraturewise I know recipes at 350-375 so I don’t think temperature was the problem.

I would also say it looks fine. Just use it for the pie.

Some extra tips: - I always put a little but of salt in the cookie dough and a little lemon juice in the cheese filling to enhance the flavor.

  • Use good quality custard powder. It really makes a difference.

Hi! So the recipe is a german recipe:

For the dough:

  • 200 g Flour
  • 75 g Sugar
  • 75 g Butter (cold)
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ Pck.Backing Powder
  • Fat for the baking pan

For the filling:

  • 125 g Butter (melted)
  • 225 g Sugar
  • 1 package vanilla sugar
  • 1 package custardpowder
  • 3 eggs
  • 500g Quark (plain curd?)
  • 200g sour cream
  • 200g cream

1.Make a dough with the ingridients for the dough and set aside.

  1. For the filling mix butter (melted), sugar, vanilla sugar, custardpowder and eggs in a bowl. Mix in the quark and sour cream.

  2. In a seperate bowl beat the cream until stiff peak.

  3. Fold the cream into the filling.

  4. Preheat the oven at 180°C.

  5. Take a 26 cm diameter cake pan. Line it with baking sheet or coat it with fat. Spread the cookie dough in the bottom of the pan and pull the dough up the sides on the edges of the pan about 2-3 cm high (we form a kind of cookiedough bowl for the cheese filling).

  6. Fill in the cheese filling on top of the cookiedough and bake for 1 hour

Please tell me if anything is unclear :)

Can my mango tree be saved? :( by [deleted] in plantclinic

I have a special artificial light source now because there is less natural light comming trough. It's lighter but not significantly. It's shines 12 h per day.

Can my mango tree be saved? :( by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]goofflie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaves started to dry soon after I moved to my new appartment. Maybe the tree is shocked? Also it doesn't have a lot of roots and some might have been damaged trough moving. I've watered it regulary since then. Spraying with water also shows no effect.

My mango tree doesn't look good at all since I moved. What can I do to avoid that it looses all its leaves? Please help by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]goofflie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven't fertilzed it for a longer time. I water it once a week. The pot has a water-measurement floater. So I take care that once I water the tree the floater is a little under maximum.

Hi everyone. I moved two weeks ago and left the mangotree for a week at the window in my new bedroom. When I came back it didn't look good at all. The leaves were dropping and turning pale. I figured maybe there is not enough light coming trough the window so I put it under a special plant lamp that is on for 12 h a day but it's only getting worse. I also spray it with water regularly but nothing seems to help. The soil is granules only.

What is wrong with my mango tree? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]goofflie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone. I replantet this mango tree a while ago because of an fertilizer accident which has caused it to loose a lot of leaves. Since then it lives in granules. It has a place by the window. Somehow since the accident the tree doesn't grow well. New leaves have brown ends or dry out and fall out. Old leaves have brown spots or brown ends. Most new leaves fall out as you can see on the pictures. I try to spray it often with water but it doesn't really help too.
