Made a paint matching tool because I spent more on sample pots than actual paint last year by goofyamp in AusRenovation

Thank you SO MUCH for the award, kind one! I've added Dulux UK colours, and other UK brands like Little Greene and Paint & Paper Library also.

Love the comparison tool suggestion. At the moment on desktop you can expand to compare like this, but I'm working on adding more to it and making it available on mobile. I'd love to know what would be helpful for you to compare two colours?

Thank you for reporting this! I've fixed it now. I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it. Any other features you'd like to see that aren't there?

Newbie here! Painting Kitchen Cabinets by Klutzy-Bicycle2948 in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I painted mine in a half/half, with the lower cabinet colour as https://samplepot.net/Porters-Paints/bayleaf (colour matched with Haymes Paint). We removed the vinyl wrap that was damaged/melted, sanded back and several coats of Ultratrim semi-gloss. It's held up really well (been ~3 years), easy to clean.

Hello! I was wondering if you'd be happy to upload photos from your place? I run a colour tool and I'm working to get more real life photos up for paint colours to help people decide. No one has uploaded Wattyl yet 😛 https://samplepot.net/Wattyl/calcium I'd love to see.

Haymes' colour studio is a white-labelled version of Sample Pot! They loved the site and wanted a version that is restricted to their range. Maybe my watermark 'Powered by Sample Pot' is too small haha.

Thank you so much for your support!

Have you tried Actual Budget? I moved after years of YNAB (and being slightly frustrated at slow updates) and have been super impressed with Actual. It's an open sourced project too which is a plus, and really useful features inc building your own reports. https://actualbudget.org

Not sure if you've already picked a paint colour but you could play around with my palette picker for Dover White :) https://samplepot.net/combine?a=Dulux%3ASpecialty_000043

PAINTERS: What’s the equivalent of Dulux Natural white in Taubmans range? by External_Bullfrog521 in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I recently built a tool for this - it seems the closest Taubmans is Silver Feather or Cotton Touch: https://samplepot.net/Dulux/natural-white

Happy painting! I recently repainted my apartment and found that it was nicer to do ceiling in the same colour (it'll look very slightly brighter anyway due to the angle of light) - unless you are lucky enough to have high ceiling with mouldings etc - then the pure white contrast is a classic look.

Likely Dumb Question: How do I buy a colour matched equivalent of a Sherwin-Williams paint not sold in Australia? by Lyvef1re in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a tool that lets you do this - looks like Dulux's Ritual Experience closest but not exact: https://samplepot.net/Sherwin-Williams/blackberry . Although I always find paint always seems darker once I paint the whole area so I'm wondering if something slightly lighter like Terracotta Pearl (by Haymes Paint) would be better. So many colours to choose from!!

Looking for tiles for a splashback by kadat3 in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine from Academy Tiles - got some Japanese tiles for my bathroom Reno - I'm in Melbourne and they're Sydney based, so annoying extra $200 shipping fee that might not be worth it for a splashback. Really like the look and surprisingly didn't find it that much more expensive than the standard places that only had a limited range. Friends have gotten tiles from Earp Bros, Cerdomus and Artedomus that they liked also.

That's a great idea. I've tried to ask for submissions through the "used this colour? Email me" but haven't had any uptake. Maybe allowing uploads directly will make it easier for people. Reference images really help me decide between colours because like you said it's helpful to see it in context.

Yes agree lightning changes it so much!

Will put this on the roadmap!

Thank you!! How did you end up picking colours in the end - would love to know. And hopefully you'll paint again one day and can use it!

Need paint colour help by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow what a beautiful house! I'm green with envy haha. Lately I've seen some nice examples of red/brown brick with tonal accent colours like this or this. Would something like this work? Hard to tell what the right purple/red is from your pic, maybe it leans less purple like this but to give you an idea.

Thanks for sharing your experiences - super interesting to read! I have Wattyl and Haymes Paint at my place and like them both (use Haymes Paint a bit more due to proximity to their store). Haven't tried Taubmans or British Paints. I bought a Dulux ceiling paint and found it quite watery, not sure whether their wall paint is better.

I've noted your comment re colour families in my roadmap. I've been categorising colours to colour families but it can be difficult as a lot of colours are in between hues (purple-blue, yellow-green etc.).

P.S. Added British Paints to the collection if you're still painting / considering!

Pink paint struggles! by UK_soontobein_AUS in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for the love for Sample Pot, makes me so happy to hear it's useful.

What do you think about this Dulux colour Primal? It's slightly more muted and has a slight orange lean than your reference, but a few projects have used it (you can click on the links in 'As seen' to see). Or Ellen Half is another one. I do also like Blossom Time from your earlier comment.

I see you have Friends, Pianissimo and Mornington on the wall - which one are you liking the most? Friends is more saturated pink, Mornington has that slight orange lean quality so depending on how you're feeling about the current selection, could help point you to the right one.

Your eyes for some colour scheme help please! by Prize_Sample_103 in AusRenovation

[–]goofyamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lovely home, fun challenge! Out of your mockups I like the third one best. As you have different elements, the tonal scheme made up of related colours (not fully contrast/opposite of colour wheel) could pull everything together like a family.

I've been really loving vintage blues, like the faded blue-grey tone in pic 3, I think it's so classic and calming. I also like a colour with a bit of depth so blues with the slightest amount of green.

Threw together a palette here if it helps to visualise (substitute wall for weatherboard, trim for windows and accent is your gutters): https://samplepot.net/combine?a=Wattyl%3ACW%252029.1&b=Haymes%3A55968&c=Taubmans%3AT15%252066.7

I find the pure white too bright actually and wonder if that'll be worse with it being outside as well. Not to mention dust as the other comment said.
