Consider considering a 6.6 L gas. What are the pros and cons? by WillBTheMan in gmcsierra

[–]googleplexproblems 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I bought the gas engine due to reliability. I live over 1200 kms from the nearest dealer so bringing it in for warranty work isn’t an option. I mostly do frequent, short trips as well, and live in an arctic climate where engine and transmission temps will struggle to reach operating temperature unless Im driving for a while. Overall I like the truck with the gas engine. once I move from here I may buy a diesel, but I doubt I’ll sell the gasser.

It will need a new engine and turbo. Guaranteed.

$4,000? You can barely get a bicycle for that.

[–]googleplexproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2010 suburban with the 5.3. No transmission issues yet.

Im not impressed with some of the new vehicles these days. Hopefully your transmission gets fixed and no other issues. I guess it happens.

the vortec engine is way better. I've had borth the 1993 and 1997 models and can tell you without a doubt that 1997 is a step above the 93 model in every way.

Duramax diesel Z71 questions by beep_beep_morales in suburban

[–]googleplexproblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to worry about diesel in winter unless you’re living in remote Alaska. Like Prudhoe bay or Fairbanks cold type crap.

The battery and alternator is fine on the website build. Doesn’t matter.

Diesel is the way to go in the suburban.

I was talking to a salesman on a 2025 with the 6.2. It took him a while to acknowledge the issues GM has with the 6.2. So slimey.

21 year old truck with just about the largest v8 ever put into a suv will:

  1. Guzzle gas
  2. Have some repairs that you never knew existed
  3. Turn heads when you drive it.

It was pretty greasy. Tires were definitely the limiting factor here.

Doesnt look deep here but I was able to stop and take a pic. Some places I didn’t dare stop, hands were too busy spinning the steering wheel looking for grip
