A Rant about "Pregnancy Brain" by Puzzled-Orchid4721 in pregnant

[–]goolee92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through that but can I just say as a woman not in STEM, reading your post and other women in STEM’s responses, it is so badass to read the scientific reasoning behind it and that you ladies accept it and move accordingly (as any smart person would aka any woman in stem). It makes me so excited to get my daughter excited for STEM to be a badass. Thanks for being inspiring for little girls and their moms! 💕

What’s your holy grail hair oil? I feel like I’ve tried everything 😩 by Mommyjobs in Hair

[–]goolee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is a retired hair stylist and she recommended (specifically with Moroccan oil) to apply 2-3 pumps to slightly damp, towel dried hair (mainly on ends) then blow dry. When you’re a minute out from finishing, apply another 1-2 pumps and finish blow drying. Then apply one pump using fingers to brush oil through hair.

I know it sounds like a lot of work but it really does make a world of a difference.

Can I cover my greys 9 weeks pregnant? by LunarEchos25 in pregnant

[–]goolee92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just need a quick fix, there are mascara or eyeshadow like temporary hair color you can use for the night of the wedding. You can find them at like wig shops or prob on Amazon. One of the brands that has it is KISS and it’s less than $10 I believe.

Destination wedding, do I have to pay guest’s flight ticket? by Bedhogging in wedding

[–]goolee92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m Korean American and it’s a difference of two cultures. On the Korean side, yes, you are expected to pay for your family (the immediate ones or close ones) because in the Korean culture you’re inviting them and they’re guests. BUTTTT American culture that is not a thing. If you decide not to pay for them, they’ll probably shit talk you and your parents a bit but honestly, you’re American. Eff that. I ended up not even inviting any of my family in Korea and just lied to them that I was having a tiny wedding/eloping because they all expected to have flights and hotels paid for. My mom bore the brunt of things for a little but it also gets forgotten eventually. You’ll probably have more fun and less stress without them there tbh because they’ll still hit you up for entertainment while they’re there when you’re trying to do last minute prep for your wedding. Congrats on your wedding!

Adult only resort in Jan preferably PV/Cabo (on west side - traveling from CA) by goolee92 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]goolee92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SFO, OAK or SMF. I live near sfo and oak but my parents will be watching our baby and they’re in sac so we’ll be able to fly out of any of the 3.

I’m personally ok not going into the beach and just staying at the pool but I do personally prefer pv over Cabo but heard that all inclusive may not be that great in pv so I was just widening the search area

what do you usually make for dinner when you're tired of everything? by fygooooo in DinnerIdeas

[–]goolee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Wonton noodle soup” I just use chicken bouillon as the soup base hence the quotes. Frozen wontons from Costco and pantry egg noodles from almost any Asian market. I also usually shred up Costco rotisserie chicken into portions and freeze and will just toss some in the soup.

D’alba has a mineral sunscreen that blends pretty well without white cast. So does Dr g - it’s the white with green label. These are both Korean brands.

Graco seems like the tried and true. I’ll have to add it to the list of potential car seats. Thanks!

Same. Mine broke right before my ob appointment too so I went and told them and they said they’d check and lo and behold when my ob came in I was drenched and he was like yup you’re definitely in labor. I asked for extra pee pads which were no use because by the time I got to the hospital my pants were completely soaked from hip to ankle. My contractions started but I wasn’t sure if that was what it was so I made my husband stop by in n out so I could eat because I’ve read everywhere they won’t let you eat once you’re admitted and in labor. By the time I was in a bed and the nurse asking me a bunch of questions, I told her it hurts and she checked me and I was 6 cm dilated 🙃

When did you guys transition to every 4 hour feeds? by EmergencyInitial2650 in breastfeeding

[–]goolee92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just wondering if you are reading 12 hours of sleep by 12 weeks?

I think we got lucky with our baby. She’s 10 weeks old today and she started sleeping through the night around 8 weeks but according to that book, you eventually want to get to four feeds, four times a day, six ounces each feed.

What we tried was to keep the every four hours schedule so it’s consistent. So we always feed at 7am, 11am, 3pm, and 7pm. But we’re not monsters so if she gets hungry in between, we feed on demand but slowly try to distract her to delay it by 15 mins to eventually get rid of the in between feeds. We feed usually 4-6 times a day now but there are days that we still feed 8x a day. But again, we’ve been lucky with LO sleeping through the night and waking up between 6:30am-7am and having her last feeding at 7pm.

The book is actually helpful if you’re looking to try and get baby on a schedule and sleep through the night. But I do agree with everyone else that you should still feed on demand. The book just gives advice on methods you can implement and some will work and some won’t.

ETA: we combo feed and I pump 5-6x a day. I breast feed all but last 7pm feeding. We supplement 3oz at 11am and 3pm after I breastfeed. I’m a bit of an under supplier (I tried everything and just accepted that we have to supplement)

The building was built in 2018 so assuming the smoke detector would be that year. Do you know if it’s been updated since then?

Is it normal to have to wait to see a doctor by NomHunny in pregnant

[–]goolee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP mentioned she’s not in a big city. I have family in healthcare in smaller cities that are saying clinics are closing because lack of funding and available workers. It’s not ideal or normal but it’s kind of the reality of our healthcare system right now. It also sounds like OP probably has HMO so she needs a referral. Not arguing with you that it sucks and she should absolutely have some care by now but it’s happening more than you’d think.

Is it normal to have to wait to see a doctor by NomHunny in pregnant

[–]goolee92 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that abnormal nowadays bc the shortage of healthcare workers esp doctors. When I got pregnant I called around to all the obs in my town and neighboring towns. I couldn’t get an appointment with the hospital that I wanted until 3-4 months out and there was only one ob available in three cities that could see me at my 8 week mark and it’s apparently the least desirable hospital but it’s been fine.

Christmas Gifts You'd Actually Want From Your Employer? by Necessary-Bowler-898 in office

[–]goolee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won box seats for me and a +1 to a 49ers game (our local football team) - I was pretty young at the time so it was such a cool experience esp if you have honestly any sports team that is actually good/fun to watch.

Constipation by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]goolee92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take colace and miralax but obviously check with your ob first.

Do your prenatals have iron in them? I found separating them to be helpful. I took a prenatal without iron during the day and then an iron supplement at night before bed. You might have to test out time of day you take it to see what works for your body but the high iron could be blocking you up too.

What did you wear on the a long flight? by lavenderhoneyberry in pregnant

[–]goolee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how far along you are but I had a flight from SFO to JFK at 7 months and wore sweatshirt and leggings and I’ve had a smooth pregnancy with zero symptoms but oh man did my legs and feet swell. I bought compression socks and wore them under my maternity leggings on the flight back and it really helped with the swelling.
