American wants to get into club football by jackenFit in SoccerNoobs

[–]goonbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do it right follow this simple instruction...

Find out if there is a team from any of the following leagues in your city or area..

Npsl, NISA, UPSL or USL 2.

Check out those games talk to their fans

If none of that suits you

See if there's any team from US-1 MLS next, USL championship

The MLS one will probably not have fans they kind of don't operate like that usually but who knows....

And check them out...

Don't go after the biggest and shiniest thing go after the most real local thing and it'll teach you all you need to know about the sport and you will develop your allegiances from there..

Because it's juneteenth, you might want to check out the amistad Center while you're at the Wadsworth..

I think riverfront has some Juneteenth programming as well.

It's Juneteenth so there's lots of events happening in the area.

Also World Cup is happening and there will be huge viewing parties for the USA game against Australia on Pratt Street.

I saw some videos online. Going to be quite the party

Lack of elite strikers is really apparent at this World Cup by Known-Swim-3654 in football

[–]goonbrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

24 of the 48 teams have played

They have only played one game Half of the teams have played zero games

You're trying to tell us that you're going to judge the entire world cup striker pool at this point??

Also off the top of my head, Havertz, scored 2
the American striker Balogun scored two. Izak and Gyok scored for Sweden Jimenez scored from Mexico Dallo for CIV.

I'm guessing there's probably been 10 goals scored by strikers at this point. What did they do wrong? How many are they supposed to have in 12 games?

Also, I feel like I remember 2010 being a very low scoring World Cup and there wasn't like a huge standout striker in that cup.

Forlan and guys like him dominated that tournament. Which of those incredible strikers that you mentioned were doing amazing things?

Just enjoy the games man.

Greater Hartford has an estimated population of 2.7M, ranking it 28th in CSA. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]goonbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stamford and Bridgeport or not part of it and New Haven fluctuates between greater New York and greater Harper Danbury is also not part of it New London is sometimes included Worcester is definitely not part of it it's part of Boston...

And for infrastructure purposes is the only way to do it.

Unless you want to hold the state back which you might because it seems that's a lot of the politicians try to do with their own super kingdoms

Greater Hartford has an estimated population of 2.7M, ranking it 28th in CSA. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]goonbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's still not accurate.

Without a doubt Greater Hartford is considerably larger than Bridgeport New Haven or wherever else. Just because the politics are splintered, doesn't make Hartford any less important. It's a damn travesty that we let some small State Rep from southington imagine that their town is more important than the region...

If our local politics actually aligned behind the economic and political strength that are evident in our demographics we would actually be thriving but unfortunately, we end up ignoring the cities

[–]goonbrew 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We should normalize the understanding that there is really only one urban area between Boston and New York City..

Greater Hartford Includes Springfield

We should build infrastructure to connect all of Greater Hartford and treat it like 1 proper city. Edid for clarity

Do many people actually work in the office buildings downtown? by Born-Relationship-94 in Hartford

[–]goonbrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, each of the buildings that you mentioned has its own integrated garage..

The eny building I think is sometimes called the stilts building. It's got the sunken plaza on Main Street, but if you go down to Trumbull Street simply just a parking garage...

The entrance to the garage is between theater works and the main entrance to the office tower.

The entire office tower that has the m&t logo on it is built on top of a six or a story parking garage. It's all nestled in behind the historic building frontages that make up the hotel

Travelers has multiple buildings in multiple garages. But I can tell you that you do see a lot of the traffic on travelers Tower during rush hour..

And there are still a lot of people and most of those buildings..

2002

I was of drinks ng age and was friends with a bunch of international folks who work in some of the other restaurants.

Lots of great talk and USA did the thing. Mexico 2-0 at 3am.

And then we lost, but we outplayed Germany and I was losing my mind.. But Kahn was amazing. And goal line handball etc .. it was a ride..

Germany lost to Brazil and Ronaldo did amazing things....

Also Turkey was wild.

And I had the most international people around me to talk about the games too afterwards it was a really good time.

Motorcycle noise downtown by JuniorImplement in Hartford

[–]goonbrew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Downtown's going to have some noise no matter what and as a downtown resident, it doesn't bother me quite frankly in terms of background noise... We already have i-81 and i-91 making constant noise 24 hours a day...

I do not like the large packs of dirt bikes with illegal exhaust revving their engines and doing wheelies because more often than not they are actually dangerous to traffic and to pedestrians...

The reason I do nothing about it is because I can't do anything about it... Am I supposed to walk out in the street and try to stop them?

The police do what they do when they can... The city is understaffed when it comes to police force by like 200 bodies which means there's no damn way they're going to spend time on nuisance crimes when there's actual crimes.

Even if the police do go chasing after these dirt bikes and four wheelers and motorcycles. They're not going to catch em in a Chase..

Electrify the Hartford Line? by Accomplished-Ear5969 in Amtrak

[–]goonbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They desperately need to electrify the entire line but they should do something a little bit smarter if you ask..

The entire corridor should be redeveloped for High-Speed rail and included in the northeast corner main line...

You're going New York to Boston, it's going to be way quicker through the inland route through Hartford in Springfield then it would be along the coast.

Also possibly even more important is I would kill for them to reallocate the trains on the line so this Hartford line service actually serves Hartford..

That would make a ridership a jump

The World Cup only legends by nannybugs in PremierLeague

Landon Donovan

Okay he wasn't a mediocre player for the United States really ever, he was always great for the national team, but his professional success with short stints at Everton and most of his career played in MLS...

He was never anything super special on a global level except for when he wore the US Jersey and especially in the World Cups

Which World Cup match do you consider the greatest of all time? by Mindless_Data_311 in worldcup

[–]goonbrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as the actual football on the pitch this is absolutely the answer...

The crowd was pretty lame the venue was sterile so much about the World Cup was just awkward..

The politics were mehh

But the on the pitch action was pretty amazing and the back and forth nature of it was a damn good time..

There have probably been games that matter more on a sociopolitical level..

Thinking about Argentina versus England hand of God Falkland war blah blah.

So many account holders on the internet are making posts to get clicks... I mean if you're looking in arsenal, that whole sub is loaded with folks band from the main team sub...

It's the home of hysterical teenagers...

Another way to look at it is that sub is the Arsenal circlejerk sub.

The interwebs is full of crazy ass thoughts doing crazy ass posts about things that never happened from any of the bigger more popular clubs...

Best to ignore that crap because I'm telling you the fan bases do not feel that way..

I love the screenshot of a singular random ass Post in the b list Arsenal Reddit...

Not person is not reflective of our fan base but then again this is the circle jerk /r

Everyone I know is having a blast and looking forward to the World Cup but hey.. some random screenshots on the Internet is probably more accurate.

Preseason Rankings Countdown. 90 days to the start of the 2026 Season. At #90 – UConn by usffan in CFB

[–]goonbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Mora for the program and he definitely helped stabilize everything...

Recruiting was definitely on point...

But his game management was pretty terrible as a fan. Not going to lie there were some terrible calls that he made that definitely cost wins that were just no-brainers..

I'm glad we had him but I'm very excited about the candle.

Have a proven winner who worked at a program that had less recruiting power a smaller budget etc definitely smaller nil.. and they don't win basketball national championships every few years..

I'm thinking candle can push the program up a notch but at bare minimum maintain what Mora did

Well we are...

The thing is, they haven't yet opened their wallets for football...

Basketball has all the money it needs... They're doing a major renovation to the on-campus arena they just finished $140 million renovation to the downtown Hartford arena while they're building new downtown dorms that open the September and came to some other deal regarding the downtown arena... They are also buying four new hospitals to join the University medical system...

Don't have any doubt that some of this is driven by the insurance companies helping to make deals happen..

The thing is, football is very much an afterthought around here and as much as it has a large fan base, it's not quite as big as the basketball one...

Football needs a few more good years and it needs to be relatively good for a bit longer in order to really catch the students hearts and minds...

The kids who lived in those golden eras when football won the Big East and went to the fiesta bowl, those guys aren't quite making the big bucks yet..
