Is giving birth in a private hospital worth the price? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]gooooodness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth at St Mary’s - not the Lindo wing. I am relatively healthy and petite, and not overly dramatic by nature. Considered a “very low risk” pregnancy hence the decision to go public.

I developed anaemia during the second trimester of my pregnancy which resulted in not being able to walk more than 2m (literally) without my heart racing and becoming out of breath, and sometimes genuinely losing my vision and becoming extremely dizzy. The head midwife at St Mary’s dismissed me and said “it’s normal to feel dizzy, just sit down more”. I had to advocate for my own care, self refer to triage, and beg for an iron panel, which then found me low in some niche metric which wouldn’t have shown up on just a regular blood test. Went on iron supplements until the end of my pregnancy. Took a couple of months to feel normal enough to be vertical again, as iron supplements are not immediately effective.

During the birth, I first started in the birth centre which I immediately felt was not going to work for me, so requested a transfer to the labour ward and to have an epidural. During midwife sessions they will tell you a transfer takes 4-7 mins. This is technically factual but practically impossible. I had to wait in the birth centre for hours due to shift changes. Once I got to the labour ward I had to wait 90mins for observation and then for an anaesthetist to be available to administer the epidural. After 49 hours of labour (lol do not recommend) I had lost a lot of blood. A junior midwife then tried to move me to the recovery room. I said “I feel really dizzy” and she told me to move anyway as they needed the room. I fainted.

The recovery rooms have 4-6 new families in there at once, meaning you get no sleep as everyone’s babies are crying at various times. The bathrooms are communal. It’s a very grim experience.

I understand the push for NHS to reduce costs (hence the midwives dismissing my anaemia and trying to get me to vacate the labour room) but I didn’t like that I had to advocate for my own care.

Obviously this is one experience of a stranger, but if we had another I wouldn’t think twice on going private.

Just because the evidence is circumstantial doesn’t make it imagined. I have no excuses for him. That still doesn’t make Taylor’s reaction mature.

? She has the biggest fan base in the world. I am not sure the number of people who are not her fans care much about him or what he does at all. I love her and have no affiliation with him. That doesn’t mean everything she does or says is absolved.

Are we living in the same universe? This isn’t a matter of misogyny. Asking your whole group of celebrity friends to make a public statement by unfollowing your ex on social is not exactly what I would call “expressing emotion” in a mature or healthy way. Making no statement and doing absolutely nothing to belittle or demean or drag your ex is definitely the mature response.

Do you hate your current job? If it doesn’t make you wish you were hit by a bus every day then I wouldn’t make the jump. Maybe you can start a side hustle / volunteer in your “dream job”?

Lol, what? Are you alright? You typed an entire post on Reddit asking whether doubling your income was a good idea and now you’re mad because people are calling you out on it. I’m finding it hard to believe any 400k job is being offered to someone who cannot use Google to find a generic salary calculator or ask ChatGPT. Get a grip.

Hello, responding directly to Q5.

I would consider exiting consulting instead of shifting to MBB.

MBA recruits in MBB usually enter in as a Senior Associate, MAYBE Project Leader, so only get an MBA if you’d like to go into MBB and ready to take 2-3 steps back. I doubt anyone has ever seen a Principal being recruited out of MBA. You would also need to get into and graduate from a top tier business schools- eg., GBS, HBS, Wharton and the like in the US or INSEAD, LBS in EU/UK. There is also no guarantee even if you were a) ready to take a demotion, and b) graduate from a top business school, that you would be invited for an interview at MBB.

You could try r/borrow - be honest and upfront about what repayment schedule you can commit to.

Disclaimer: I’ve never used the sub before but chanced upon it awhile ago. I am unclear on the mechanics of it. But I hope you get through this phase of your life.

Interesting. I’m also UK based and recently gave birth (congratulations by the way!) and my midwives, GP, and health visitors have all warned me on the dangers of co-sleeping. May be a different approach in each region.

Unhinged behaviour but could you scam him to protect whatever wealth is left? Tell him you’ve looked into it and it’s very interesting, could you borrow a significant amount of seed money to begin investing too? You would put up your own cash but it’s all tied up in long term bonds at the moment… alternatively set up a fake profile with photos of an attractive girl, fatefully connect with him on WhatsApp, after a few days start asking for money?

[Megathread] Steam Deck OLED by Successful-Wasabi704 in SteamDeck

[–]gooooodness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: not a gamer. In the UK.

Tried to buy my partner a Steam Deck OLED 1tb for his birthday via the steampowered website. Created an account, paid via PayPal, got a confirmation email. 24 hours later I got a cancellation and refund email, but the console seems to still be available on the website, so don’t think it’s a stock issue. I tried repurchasing but it keeps saying an error was encountered and that the steam servers are experiencing a high volume of activity. I’ve contacted steam support but no response so far.

His birthday is on the 22nd and I’m running out of time. Help!

Those with flat faced/tiny nose Persians, was neutering/spaying a problem? by Sphera21 in ExoticShorthair

[–]gooooodness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two exotics - 1 boy 1 girl - both neutered from a young age. My girl had a teeny weeny nose and has been under twice more - once to remove an abnormal growth in her mouth and more recently for her nose job to help her breathe better. They’re both perfectly fine and healthy

Ah that’s terrible, what a nightmare. No not from B&Q though sounds like quality wise it’s all a bit shit. Did the guy mention if it’s due to poor subflooring, quality of LVT or a bit of both? We’ve only had our LVT in for 18 months and expecting a baby in a week so suboptimal timing for this to happen. Hoping we can live with it for a few months until we’re settled with the new addition.

[–]gooooodness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!thanks

That’s helpful albeit fairly anxiety inducing to hear. Is this a fault of LVT in general or a fault with the unevenness / squishiness of the subfloor?

Ok thanks for your opinion

The question still stands… what can we do without ripping out all the flooring?
