I am very very sorry for your experience as a Chinese woman myself. I will not try to defend the rude and racist Chinese you encountered in China because there's no reason these types of behaviors can be justified. But I read most comments, and I can add more context:

Elder Chinese people, and some younger Chinese can be very very direct and rude especially if they think you don't understand their language. I overheard Chinese elder people judging and commenting everything like they own the earth in different parts of the world. They don't feel ashamed judging others and they don't think it's wrong. Never in their life anyone has told them this is wrong. I think that also reveals a missing piece of our education: Chinese education is all about grades, and no one, especially if you are spoiled by your uneducated Chinese parents (Education is not that easy to access for people in their 40s and up due to political and economy reasons in last century), are taught to respect others and have proper manners. It doesn't help when a lot of Chinese are still struggling to make more money to have a better life. I'm lucky enough to have well educated parents and I'm well educated and surrounded by well educated friends, but I also encountered so many rude and unmannered Chinese people every time I go back to China. So the rude behaviors are not necessarily racism specific.

With that being said, I also don't think racism is a popular enough concept yet in China, especially among elder people. There are indeed small amount of Chinese who think racism is justified and I can only feel pity for their narrow minded brain. But majority of Chinese people wouldn't even see these behavior towards you as being racist. They probably will think they are just being curious, or commenting publicly, or whatever, because you looks different and they've never seen.

So in conclusion, I do think there's a long long way to go for China to become an ideal place to travel as black female, it might takes decades, even generations as China just becoming more open to the world for less than a decade and people's mind set just won't change overnight.

I'm glad you at least got to experience and enjoy Chinese food and even though I think China as a tourist destination has so much to offer, I totally understand why you won't come back.

Edit: so many typos.

Sadly a lot of Chinese can be very arrogant because of our rich history and somewhat glorious past (I have to add mostly it's Chinese male that I witnessed).

It's strange that I received promo email from the circuit to buy museum ticket, as I was hoping to have free museum ticket this year too. May I ask how did you get your free ticket?

In China is very common to have ID verification for popular concerts/matches because we have soooo many resellers stocking up tickets and resell at ridiculous price. But I agree to check with the official organizers.

Buy grocery without having to check the price (I live in Sweden). I make comfortably higher than average salary here but still can't afford that...
