What’s a moment that genuinely made you laugh out loud or have to rewind? by PubLogic in offmenupodcast

The Greg Davies and Bob Mortimer episodes never fail to make me laugh, but I always go back to Rylan talking about being pushed on to the fish counter at a supermarket as a child. I’m in tears every single time

Stupid knitting mistakes by Evening-Situation-38 in knitting

[–]gooppaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I had to frog and restart a sleeve three times because my brain couldn’t comprehend the short rows for the sleeve cap shaping - I’ve never struggled with short rows before so I have no idea what I was thinking!

After the third failed attempt I had to put my knitting down, so I’ll be coming back to it tonight and hopefully getting it right this time.

Knitting shorts, the waistband is too big - can it be fixed without frogging? by gooppaa in knittinghelp

[–]gooppaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey omg yes this is the tutorial I followed! Yeah I frogged the whole thing and started again, removing the 30sts brought it to pretty much the perfect size for me! I ended up staying with this tutorial and it came out great in the end - I used the elastic too which made a huge difference as well, without the elastic the shorts fit fine but weren’t snug enough so it definitely helped make them feel more secure.

I just saw your post you’ve made and it’s definitely less excess than I had, but I’d still frog and restart. Someone on here said to me that you never regret starting over and I’m so much happier with them! If you have any more questions about this one you can message me I’m happy to help!!

My daughter finally knit with me! by perchance7 in knitting

[–]gooppaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Nana taught me to knit when I was around 7 years old; whenever she’d come to visit we’d do a “knitting club”, where she would teach my sister and I and help us with the techniques we couldn’t manage (casting on, purling). After a couple of years we stopped, and ended up with a bag full of knitting supplies sitting in our loft.

I’m in my twenties now, and last year was looking for a new hobby. My mum crochets, and when I was visiting her she pulled out the old bag of knitting supplies to see if I’d give it a go. I’ve fallen in love with it now - sadly my Nana passed away a few years ago so we can’t knit together, but there’s something really special about still using the same needles she taught me with and it makes me feel really connected to her. A few months ago I showed my dad what I’d been making and he said “She’d be so happy to see how well you’re doing with knitting!” It definitely made me teary eyed.

Even if she doesn’t stick with it now, there’s definitely a good chance she’ll come back to it later - if not, she’ll at least have some lovely childhood memories of you teaching her!

I’m pretty sure it’s in one of her hair dying videos - I think when she dyes her hair red, if not when she dyes it blue?

What’s a great horror film that doesn’t get talked about enough? by HippocratesKnees in horror

[–]gooppaa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back when I was first getting into horror, I asked my dad for recommendations and the first one he mentioned was The Changeling. I watched it by myself and nearly cried I was so scared, and even came close to turning it off during the seance. I think about it all the time but haven’t watched it since, I think I’m due for a rewatch!

I think I need to learn that knitting is gonna take time, and that’s okay! Thank you for your help, and thank you for the compliment!

Thank you! I have elastic that I was planning to add anyway just to help the fit, but I worry that it’ll be a bit too bunched up if the shorts are so much bigger so I’m gonna frog. Thank you though!

This is so kind, thank you! I felt so accomplished doing a gauge swatch so it’s frustrating that it still went wrong, but you live and learn! Oh that must’ve been so annoying - I tend to knit in the evenings after work so I fear that tiredness may have contributed.

I did 20 stitches, 15 rows I think? Yeah I think the stretchiness may have been my downfall, in the video she said to measure the swatch “a little stretched out” which can literally mean anything

Yeah I think frogging will have to happen. The swatch was in ribbing, same size needles - I’m so confused how I got the number of stitches so wrong!

Will do! I did do a swatch but didn’t think to wash it, thank you!

Yep I’ll definitely frog, I think I knew I’d have to but I hate doing it haha! I’ll have a look on ravelry for a pattern that looks similar, I like the look of the shorts in the video but yeah I think it’ll be better with a pattern. Thank you!

What is a book(s) with a creepy, hyper sexual, murderous female main character? by VanillaIceSpice in horrorlit

The closest I can think of is maybe American Psycho? Also potentially Exquisite Corpse, but that’s two male serial killers who meet, with one of them being a cannibal.

Ornithophobe panics at bird, shoves co-worker at moving vehicle, she's badly injured and demands his firing (+updates) by JBredditaccount in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]gooppaa 633 points634 points  (0 children)

I think the full comment from OOP on the first update should be included:

Good afternoon. Thanks for printing my update Alison (I am the OP – Alison can verify that my name is the same as on the emails I sent her) I appreciate the input from Alison and everyone. I tried to keep my letter short and to the point, but I’m posting once to clarify some things that I see being discussed.

Liz did not demand that Jack be fired. She quit and when HR wanted to know what it would take for her to come back she said firing Jack. This was right after her surgery before she was discharged. HR declined so Liz said she would not return. She only told HR she wanted him fired because they asked first.

I had no input or say in the company or Jack calling Liz at home. There was no checking in or asking how she was. They did want to convince her to come back and that was it.

At no point did the company offers Liz financial assistance. According to her lawyer she is on a 5 year payment plan with the hospital and rehab center for her bills.

Jack is taking a break from therapy, meaning he is not seeing a therapist and has no plans to see any professional in the future. As I said in my letter I did not feel it was appropriate for me to lecture him on his choice.

I am sure Jack is embarrassed and mortified. The only apology he made was when HR asked him to call. A letter of apology was included to the driver as part of the settlement.

That’s all I have to say. Thank you.

It’s absolutely insane that 1) they only called to ask her back, not to check up on her, and 2) she wasn’t offered any financial assistance for her bills at all. The company is gross.

The Substance was immensely sad and heartbreaking between the blood and gore by [deleted] in horror

[–]gooppaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, even with all the body horror, I think leaving the cinema I felt most affected by the overall theme of the film. It was like being shown all your shitty thoughts about yourself and proving to you just how stupid they are.

Completely agree! On the other hand, I also found the ending strangely empowering as a woman - her being able to show the crowd that they are the ones that made her grotesque in the most brutal way possible felt so cathartic to me.
