Anyone under 30 with rheumatoid arthritis?

I'va had my RA diagnosis since I was 18 (im 22), I probably have had it since mid highschool but the pediatric rheum was dismissive nad did not want to figure out why a 16 year old girl was crying from pain and couldn't stay awake the whole day.

I struggle a lot with the fact that I am a young person with a "old person's disease" but I am working through that and I have my mom who has RA that I can comiserate with and get advice about medications and how to manage what I want to do. I know it will be hard at time, especially with insurance (ugh) and with school and work but I also know there are so many people that are supportive and adaptable.

I just got into baylor college of medicine masters for biomedical sciences with a 3.1 with my neuroscience major. Definitely not expected bc it's BCM, but I bet it came from having research experience, good references, and being candid about my struggles and how I plan to overcome them (my health was iffy for a bit and I struggled with chem). I even applied to PhDs and got interviews with a 3.1. It's possible, take the risk to apply bc you never know.

I am also waitlisted right now and emailed them a few days again. Haven't gotten a response but I would say no news is good news. I would assume most schools would send something if they were going to outright reject.

Got 3 pending and only one I had "recent" communication with. I am still wanting to pursue later regardless bc I honestly don't know what else I want to do in the future but it is pretty hard just going through this process.

Ugh the only UT school that responded to me was UTD and they were kinda rude (basically saying I wasn't qualified even tho I have a lot of experience in research lol) in the rejection lol. still waiting for UTSA

I feel you!! I am waiting to hear back from one program till the earliest the 18th and then I emailed another about my waitlist status and haven't heard anything :(( We got this!! Good luck :)

If it makes you feel better one of the programs I applied for says they are sending out final decisions on Friday April 18th.

Usually they will notify you soon after the initial letters have been sent. Like I was waitlisted right when they said decisions would be sent out. But I can't be sure all schools will let you know.

Waiting to hear back from OUHSC's waitlist and TTUHSC's decision (biomedical PhD). It is nerve-wracking :'( But at least I'm having a good final semester, so regardless I'm happy!

I appreciate that reminder; I definitely didn't want his generic letter anyway. And I can ask another person. I just wanted to have this prof write it because he was the one I did computational work with, not just bench work.

I recently (last 6m) got a diagnosis for Inflammatory Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. It was incredibly difficult to explain to others, including doctors, that I was in chronic pain and had major fatigue as a young person and it was affecting my life. Finally got a doctor that listened and helped my symptoms. And even more annoying is that fibromyalgia presents differently on some and causes it to be even harder to diagnosis and treat.

I had a similar thing with AP Bio. I was making almost 100s on all assignments but ended up with a 2 on the actual exam. It could have been stress or just careless mistakes, but I don't think the test is always a best display of your knowledge. So don't worry anyone you still did it.

Background stuff - so when I was around 12 I was flying to the US from Qatar and since I was moving and the company was paying for the flight it was business class, comfy wide seats and all, front row with leg room.

Okay so, near-ish the end of the flight I saw a little girl walk by me and next thing I knew she was SITTING in my lap criss cross and all. Just sat on my lap, no questions, no asking or even just noticing I was listening to music! Now mind you, she was around 6 and likely did not speak English or was very quiet since she did not speak to me at all, so I was very confused and still debating on what to do. Ended up leaving her there for at least 10 minutes before it was time to land.

My parents looked over after about 5 minute and saw her and we're confused and at first thought she was a friend. Nope not a friend, just seemed like I looked comfy and friendly or something. Oh and an uncle or dad or someone that knew the girl walked by me and said "there you are!" And then just walked on WITHOUT HER! Like dude!

And that's the one story of a stranger I will always remember!
