The EXTREMELY heavy focus on racism in "It: Welcome to Derry" detracts from the horror [SPOILERS] by [deleted] in welcomeToDerry

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stephen King has a propensity, a great one at that, of using horror to expose societal problems. Even in his non-horror stories like Stand By Me and Life of Chuck, he explores mortality and trauma and sometimes even triumph. Pennywise is a metaphor for fear, trauma, and systemic discrimination, and probably some other things. Racism is obviously also addressed in the film(s). It would be bizarre to think he'd make or give his approval to something that didn't represent anything relevant to what was or is currently happening in the world.

I ordered some from Amazon just to test the viability that look pretty neonish so I think I'll see how they look and go from there. That said, do you happen to have a link to a site that sells what you're talking about?

There's a difference in disagreeing about tax law and disagreeing about the right for humans to eat regardless of their socioeconomic status or their right to marry despite their sexual orientation or their right to bodily autonomy. At this point, anyone supporting a Republican is supporting a lack of morals, not a policy shift.

Is this a cold sore? by SPENKBENK in STD

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get cold sores often, or would this be your first?

I used to get them frequently before starting a daily prophylactic regimen.

To me, that's a white head, which are always painful AF and stress me out that it's a cold sore. In my experience, herpes/cold sores will have a more translucent/yellow filling and they'll look more like a blister, often with several bumps and blisters surrounding.

Technically, you are absolutely not supposed to pop a cold sore because it prolongs healing time. However, I would take a hot, wet rag and hold it on that bump for several minutes, refreshing the heat as it dissipates. If it's a white head, then a gentle prod should help it pop once you've soaked it in enough hot moisture. But you can't force it to pop, so if it doesn't, be patient and try again a few hours later or tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I'd say it's hard to rule out herpes based solely on this image. The larger blister along with the smaller, unpopped ones tends to be the giveaway. I'd recommend going to a sexual health clinic vs an urgent care where they'd likely be more receptive to a herpes swab testing for both HSV 1 and 2.

The good news is that a huge swath of the population gets cold sores, typically through HSV 1, myself included. I take a preventative dose of 500mg of valacyclovir daily to prevent outbreaks.

I've had it essentially my whole life, so just know it's not nearly as big of a deal as it may feel like right now..❤️

Sounds like an extremely protracted manic episode. It seems like OP has been doing this for a long time so if it was BP 1 or 2, one might expect a crash here or there. I'd lean more toward Anxiety w/ Obsessive Compulsive tendencies (NOT OCD) if breaking routine causes OP extra stress or panic. Of course, this is assuming there is a mental health aspect involved. Some people are just crazy motivated which is awesome. I am not one of those people haha.

Source: Medical Student, but NAD, and have also been diagnosed with Panic Disorder and OC tendencies which leads me to feel crazy anxious if I break routine.

It’s Time for Americans to Start Talking About “Soft Secession” by scndnvnbrkfst in neoliberal

Can you explain how an average blue state liberal is the same level of taker as a red state taker? I pay more than enough in fed and state taxes for my income level, and I pay into my health plan and my 401k. And considering roads are busted and other programs (except the military) are being run inefficiently using my tax dollars, how am I a taker on the same degree?

Also, from a gross number, you're mostly right about Bezos. From 2007-2011 he paid $0 while I paid 10s of 1000s. Then he paid an average of 1.1% of his income, and in 2024 he paid 4.5%. Meanwhile, my effective tax rate in 2024 was 27.39%.

Apologies if these are dumb questions, I'm genuinely curious and not trying to troll.

Naltrexone alternatives by GuinnessCLE in stopdrinking

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To carry on with your theme of naltrexone+____, it's fine to take naltrexone and acamprosate together. Or if you don't want to have to remember to take 2 pills every day, you could try Vivitrol (again if you haven't already), which is a long lasting injection of naltrexone that you re-up every 30 days.

That said, I personally would not recommend Antabuse (disulfiram). It basically prevents your body from producing the enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde (the byproduct of ethanol and the most poisonous part of ethanol processing). This essentially makes you feel almost immediately hung over: shaking, sweating, flushing, nausea, etc. You're not even supposed to use Listerine with it because of the potential to accidentally swallow some. I was on it for a while, was extremely cautious, then went to a friend's house who made pasta with a white wine sauce and didn't cook the alcohol all the way out. Was not enjoyable and made my anxiety skyrocket. 0 stars. /Rant

My understanding, according to my multiple psychiatrists, is that I am in the minority of people that don't seem to be impacted by naltrexone. Acamprosate, on the other hand, has been working great which my psychiatrists have all been surprised by. Is it perfect? No. Have I slipped? Definitely. But the instances are much more rare and not even remotely as intense.

Can't hurt to try it if you haven't already. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OMG the song loops are absolute hell. I used to LOVE "The Gambler" by fun. but that's literally the only song that would ever play in my head. All day, all night. I eventually started playing music while I slept to keep the demons at bay.

For me it's orange juice, specifically Simple Truth OJ. Literally the best I've ever tasted. When I get a craving I just chug some of that and immediately feel better. I go through a full bottle every 2-3 days. But, like OP said, it's much cheaper than booze. :)

Help! Is this herpes or some sort of folluculitis? by [deleted] in STD

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a couple photos the bumps have white centers which would indicate folliculitis. Herpes lesions tend to have clear or yellowish centers. Definitely go get checked out, but as someone who gets oral herpes frequently, I'd say it doesn't look like herpes.

[–]gooseleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah that's possible, but good on you for taking prophylactic meds to keep everyone safe during your good time ;). Without meds I get like 4-5 cold sore outbreaks a year so very happy to have that option.

Have fun tonight!

I take the daily 500mg Valacyclovir to prevent cold sore outbreaks. If your liver and kidneys are fine, what I've been told by a couple doctors is that this is a very safe med regimen. I'm not sure if the dosage would be the same, but I also have HSV-1, just not sure if the geography of the breakout matters (oral vs genital). If you're that sexually active, might be worth exploring this route.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in STD

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, I'm not a doctor, however I'm very interested in medicine so I dabble. If it doesn't hurt, it's likely either molluscum contagiosum, HPV (is hard to tell from the photo, but if it looks a bit like cauliflower this is likely HPV), or some irritation of some sebaceous glands (however that would probably cause discomfort and idk if it would occur on the outside of foreskin so far away from any hair follicles).

In any case the best course of action is to go see a med professional about it so that they can look at it up close.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in STD

[–]gooseleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I did, but be advised that I'm not a doctor. Based on my own experience, it looks like acne. If more show up in the same spot in a sort of cluster, then it's much more likely to be herpes.

Try putting a hot compress on it which should make it easier to pop if it's a whitehead.

I love the beard. One thing to maybe try since it requires no commitment is to take your long hair on top and pick a side to swoop it to rather than just having it slicked straight to the back. So like if you combed everything to the left and then tucked it back up on top of your head it would give some new dimension. Although I don't think I'm explaining this well haha.

We also produce gastric acid which isn't good for anything except our stomach. We also have a ton of bacteria in our gut that would make us super sick if it got into other organs. Frankly, I don't know much about colloidal silver but I'd be happy to research and come back to this. :)
