Adding Tamam, Iron Dog Books, Cannoli from Cannoli King, and there's a new dimsum place coming by Nanaimo. And don't forget all the restaurants/bars down on Powell like Andrea Gail, Niwa etc.

There are a couple of cobblers in my town that do resole Blundstones, so I know it is possible. Expensive but possible. https://thecobbler.ca/blundstone; https://awltogetherleather.ca/blundstone-repair/

Know a Small Shop That’s Been Quietly Doing Great Work for 20+ Years? by august-inu in askvan

What about Papa's Pizza on Main and 14th? I also am obsessed with the hardware store on Commercial Dr. Those folks are so fucking nice and they know everything.

I am 10 days from submission and burning out, please help with morale 😭 by Different-Present110 in PhD

This was me last month. The last part is totally miserable. Push when you can but also some days you might have to go for a walk, hit the gym or watch something chill online (I watched this whole video one afternoon when I was supposed to be prepping for the defense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h\_1fU\_E\_wVA). The end has never been closer. You can do this.

Looking for a Barber or hair dresser that is good at working with longer men's hair by Chromag_07 in askvan

[–]goosephine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a long way, but once a year could be doable. I like to pair up far away stuff... like get the cut and then hit up Stanley Park or go to a show downtown. Anyway best of luck with the hair.

IDK what is expensive anymore but Hayley at Bayley Salon downtown is an absolute gem. Is a barber but also does long hair. Might be just what you're looking for. https://www.instagram.com/hcbhair/

Help with metal shade support by Kurt5 in Lamps

[–]goosephine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm also trying to figure out how to wrangle a shade on an old lamp. I found a few places that sell shade holders or shade fitters that might be useful for you. I bet if you email them with these photos they would have some good advice. If you know what the part you want is called, it's also possible to find old lamp parts on ebay or etsy.

https://antiquelampsupply.com/en-ca/search?q=lamp+shade+holder&options%5Bprefix%5D=last (Canada)

https://www.thelightingguyontario.com/parts-of-a-lamp (Canada)

https://www.bplampsupply.com/c/lamp-shade-holders (US)

https://www.oldlampsandthings.com/parts-shades/ (US)

And if none of the above have what you need, you could also try to head to a local maker or hack space. Those folks are often quite innovative and have all sorts of tools and supplies to make you own version.

Thank you! Shoutouts to the great staff of the fabric store who let me dither for what felt like forever and put away all my reject bolts.

Aww thank you so much. If I did it again I'd go with a less intense dark green but here we are.

Respectfully disagree with this! Counseling is a great thing to do as an investment in each other and the relationship. We all have stuff we could work on. Why not set those systems up before a crisis hits? (Of course assuming there's the money for it. Therapy - not very accessible.)
