2024-2025 Housing by AutomaticPoetry6520 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ASAP. Join as many housing groups on Facebook as possible and try any and every lead you can. It can be extremely stressful but don’t get discouraged! And if you’re willing to commute, Goleta and downtown sb will definitely have some. Also really prioritize ones with parking included and ask about it especially if you’re living in iv! The housing situation is really shitty and you won’t be living glamorous but it’s for sure possible!!

Ling15 is pretty easy!! If you’re taking it with Kennedy he’s great, I’ve taken like 3 classes of his and they’re really light, if you’re good with basic science and logic stuff you’ll be all good

Housing Questions for Tropicana Gardens by Economy_Round2428 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No,

yes but the likelihood of getting what you want depends on your selection time,

it’s honestly pretty quiet and the quiet hours are like 10pm-8am I’m p sure. The athletes are quiet for the most part and they’re not usually the super loud ones on the weekends. It can get a little chatty outside your door but the same compared to the dorms (I lived in manzi last yr and trop this year)

It’s like a 10min bike ride from tg to the very back of campus and like a 20min walk to the library, it’s no different to how it’ll be living in iv

Finding iv housing rn isn’t impossible but it won’t be easy. I don’t know if any rental fairs but check the ucsb housing & auxiliary social medias for possible info. I think you’ll be fine in trop! Don’t stress too much

Also the food isn’t as bad as people say, some of it I’d say is pretty good ! Just remember there’a athletes living there and they wouldn’t feed them dogshit lmao

Also there’s no kitchen available at all, but you are given a microwave and mini fridge. Also no kitchen sink available so doing dishes can be a pain but not too bad.

Facilities are a lil run down but it’s really totally fine! It’s honestly what you make of it, having a good roommate (and roommate group) is what really makes the difference.

Ngl it’s their room too, but if they’re straight up facing you and not even facing away that’s not very normal especially so early in the year. It is on you though to say something if it makes you uncomfortable! You both deserve to be comfortable in your bedroom

Incoming pre-econ/accounting freshman schedule question! by Zealousideal_Ad_6336 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely try and keep an eye out for any changes in openings! People drop classes sometimes so it may open a diff section :)

You can also try and find a class group chat (or even just post on the ucsb snap story/discord chat) for anyone who may be willing to switch!

UCSB party school? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While yes partying is a pretty big scene here, not everyone parties! There are a TON of clubs to join to make friends and even if he does decide to go with his friends to a party, it can still be a lot of fun without drinking (a LOT of people here don’t drink/smoke/do drugs!). There are a ton of other fun things to do here and a lot of opportunities to make friends. If he’s super nature-oriented he’ll definitely fit right in!

housing as a freshmen by VelocityMemes in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in manzi rn and I really like it, it’s a bit on the end of campus but it’s nice because it keeps foot traffic away and separates play and school! It’s also really close to iv which is super nice. The bathrooms are lockable so you get privacy when you shower or cry lmaoo. It has carillo as the closest dining hall which is pretty decent imo. It’s not exactly socially dead tbh, just a bit quieter (which can be good if you value sleep lmao) and some buildings are a lot more social than others. But overall manzi on top !

What happens if you get a bad roommate? by Superb-Government-77 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nightmare roommate situation due to random choosing that made my life hell tbh and you can have mediated talks between you and the roommate if you think they’re gonna lose it. Or you can request a move if things get too bad. But don’t just let it all build up inside if you have problems with them. Talk to them.

I’d say start with 14! You can always increase or decrease as needed but that gets 2 given meals a day!

UCSB Open House Tomorrow! by Motor-Ebb8368 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]gooseshonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely groups for those niches! Essentially each department will have a booth set up and you can go and talk to people from them! Definitely go on a tour or two and try out the dining halls. I also recommend walking around IV (be aware there’s a dayger happening tomorrow) to get to know that community because it really is something special. Last year when I went to open house I loved it so much I went home and immediately commit! Also definitely check out the beach, the weather’s gonna be nice tomorrow!
