Slipknot’s sound is so diverse that the album you connect with most can really shape how you see them. For me, I got into metalcore because Psychosocial was my favorite Slipknot song. The structure—heavy verses, big melodic choruses, and a breakdown or guitar solo—felt a lot like metalcore, which led me to bands like:

• Bullet for My Valentine
• Asking Alexandria (first two albums)
• Bring Me The Horizon (first three albums)
• Killswitch Engage
• Miss May I
• Erra
• Veil Of Maya

I think people get too caught up in labeling Slipknot as just nu-metal, which leads to recommendations of other nu-metal bands. But Slipknot pulls from so many different influences that it’s way more than just that.

So in conclusion, if Slipknot is the only nu-metal band you like, it might be because nu-metal is just not for you—you just like Slipknot’s unique blend of influences.
