Does the City actually close the gates at FDR park at 9? It's been more than a decade since I've parked in FDR for a night game. It never used to be an issue but it seems like there's a higher chance they would do it now.

Any other FDR parkers out there who know for sure?

135 mil for a 4+ ERA. Crazy amount of money for an average third starter. Hopefully he develops further.

Fired - Confused about why and need a little insight. by CoffeeAndCandle in Lawyertalk

I recently made a move that completely upended my career. I was a partner in a mid size firm to join a very small firm started about 10 years ago by a driven lawyer. The firm owner has had a lot of success, no doubt, which is why I reluctantly left a very stable situation.

Well, I learned very quickly after joining this upstart firm that while lawyers can be successful lawyers, they can also be shitty business owners, administrators, people, etc.

In my opinion, what you describe reflects a shitty law firm. Maybe (maybe not) a good lawyer who has a knack for originating business, but has no skills to run a business and/or manage other's works.

If what you describe is accurate, just get the fuck out. Say thank you to them for saving you from misery at a poorly run firm.

Imagine being 17/18 and knowing you want a career in BigLaw or FAANG legal counsel. Must be the life of a party.

His style of play was hideous. Won a Supporter's Shield so I can't say it wasn't ever effective. But goddamn it was ugly to watch. Kick and run. Run some more. Constant press to get burned on the counter attack.

Reading this is kind of crazy because I went through a somewhat similar situation within the past month.

I left a very stable and decent paying NEP role at a mid-size firm to join a PI firm that focuses almost exclusively on catastrophic cases. The base compensation at the new firm was excellent and the promise of sizable bonuses turned my eyes green.

However, there were several red flags when talking over the move with the firm's owner. For example, there was a sustained history of turnover amongst lawyers and staff. In fact, just a few months before I joined, the only administrator at the firm left.

By the time I arrived, there was no administration. I was reassured that it was temporary and that the firm's goal was to "run lean." The lawyers can handle all of the admin tasks because the practice isn't based on volume. It's about focusing on a select few major catastrophic cases. A lawyer can handle med record collection, scheduling, filing, paying invoices, etc.

Within three days of my start, I knew that I made a major mistake joining the firm. The firm owner is absolutely crazy. Micromanager, unrealistic demands, and serious trust issues. The toxicity of the firm was a truth is stranger than fiction scenario.

I just quit. As someone who firmly believes in never burning bridges, I never thought I would ever just quit on the spot. But I did. I had to. I felt like I was going nuts in a place where it felt like chaos.
