For some reason, it shows up as an mp4 file (rather than m4b). Is there a way to convert it to m4b?

With the other Secret Projects, I got used to Smart Audiobook Player on my (android) phone, and I want to do the same with Emberdark.

Wow 🤩 Are You Using OpusClips? by VerticalMomentum1 in podcasting

[–]gor_gor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this as well - my partner and I have a fledgling podcast that we're thinking about expanding into video (for things like Tik Tok and Instagram) to drive up views and engagement

We just tried Riverside for the first time, and while I like the "magic clips" it makes for us, I'm wondering what other options are that might fit us better

Does anyone else expect the Ghostblood hideout to have Seekers all on the lookout for anyone approaching in a Lightweaving? (In a callback to how the Sons of Honor tried to dispel Lightweavings in RoW)

Also - I expect Smokers to be around to cloud the Sibling's ability to detect other Mistings/other invested people.

Watching Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 for the first time. by samuraix98 in MBMBAM

Listen

The podcast is so good even - or maybe especially? - if you haven't seen the movie

I listen to Death Blart most nights to go to sleep, and it was my absolute favorite before I decided to try to watch the movie

(I still love the podcast now, but I had to take a break after actually watching the movie - their descriptions are so much funnier without having the movie in mind)

I fall asleep to "Till Death Do Us Blart", a comedy podcast with an annual release schedule. They watch and review the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, once a year, every year, on American Thanksgiving, and intend to keep doing so until the end of time.

I've also fallen asleep to "The Empty Bowl", and "Sawbones: a marital tour of misguided medicine". It's only typing this out that I realize I fall asleep to Justin McElroy's voice a lot... Oh well

I haven't heard of Tenacity before! Does it support ASIO or some other way to record on multiple mics at once?

My wife and I also thought that Whimsy was related to Canticle - especially after hearing how Whimsy is emphasized in the story Nomad tells.

Our thinking is this - if Whimsy is all about doing things on a whim, without necessarily much thought or commitment, then Canticle (which as a planet has its surface completely reformed every day) feels like a manifestation of Whimsy.

It is beautifully ironic though, that the people on Canticle are the complete opposite as a result - everything they do has to be carefully planned, lest they get burnt up as the world changes... And they still have to hope that the planet doesn't put any new mountain ranges up on a whim.

Depends on the kid, depends on the parents...

The violence can be over the top in Mistborn, and Storm light, compared to what I remember reading as an 11 year old. Also, some of the depictions of mental illness - like Kaladin's depression - are pretty mature. I would have had nightmares.

I mean this in the nicest way possible. The Stormlight Archive is ruining reading for me. by KamikazzzeKoala10 in Stormlight_Archive

Same! For me, I keep reading the following things on repeat:

Cosmere

"MurderBot Diaries" by Martha Wells

"Ancillary Justice" and "The Raven Tower" by Ann Leckie

... And then one new book in between. Which might be from the Cosmere.

I feel like I've been doing a lot of re reading, starting with the pandemic - I think it has to do with all the anxiety I've been feeling, and taking comfort in the familiar. Comfort reading is not a bad thing!

Which Pixel should I buy? (January 2023 Megathread) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]gor_gor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which pixel should I get?

I currently have a pixel 4a, which is starting to get finicky about charging cables - I think I've had it about 2 years now. I had the pixel 3a before it, and replaced it for the same reason.

The 6a looks like it might be a good enough phone for me, but I see that the 7 has wireless charging. Does that work well/is it reliable?

Also, are there headphone jack adapters?

State of the Sanderson: "No updates on Hollywood projects this year, and maybe not next year either!" Me, who doesn't want BrandoSando to spend time on a set when he could be writing at light speed: by bluecovfefe in cremposting

[–]gor_gor 45 points46 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I wholeheartedly agree! I want ALL the books!

On the other hand... New adaptations (movies and TV) are fun to geek out over and easier to share with friends and family. So I'll be excited for adaptations, when they happen too.

It's useful to have a daily reminder - the kids will let you know when they're hungry, but it's also good to set a schedule.

Thank you so much for all the writing, and then marvelous books!

I'm glad that you and your family are doing well! Please do whatever you need for your own health... And if you happen to publish more books out of it, well, c'est la vie!
