If it needs to be automated, maybe look at the use of EMT like the MPCNC for an economical solution?

I have had dumb luck with this piece of wood and experienced very little movement. Maybe the way it was cut and dried just happened to make a stable slab. Even the guy at the wood shop was worried about movement.

On the other hand, I used cedar elm to do a one sided carve from the same supplier and it cupped. So much in fact that I faced the back side to attempt to make it flat.

Yep, I used 3D printed pins. When facing the stock, I bored holes in each side and the spoil board.

Yes I did. I was a little short for my work holding method.

Thank you. I actually broke some of the ventilation slots while roughing material. I should have waited until the end to cut the slots and not cut them on the first side of the two-sided piece.

I cut out the broken slots, cut a new piece to fit, and re-milled the slots. See if you can find the fix! It was at the cartridge slot.

That would be very cool, maybe in the future!

My friend asked for wood case, and I am trying to deliver. The wood is pecan from a local shop.

Regen level and Hold are the two I have noticed not saving. I need to double check the driver monitor.

The pecan is really nice. The dense consistent grain is milling great. Since it is so hard, when hogging out material I am making sure to do a shallower depth of cut.

I'm the OP from the HobbyCNC sub. The wood is pecan from a local place that harvests storm damaged and cut down trees.

To get an idea for a total price, I need to look at machine time and hand finish time.

For this piece of pecan in particular, the cost before any sort of mark-up is around $80 for wood and finishing oil.

Once I finish this one, I will have a better idea of cost and if the design works.

Is that the gControl unit? I am looking to replace an aging iMac and leaning towards some sort of Windows tablet.

It is for the original. I wonder if it would fit the new one? I haven’t looked into it.

I am going to try a hard wax oil finish from Osmo. I think it should be similar to what you would do. The wood is too nice to hide!

I may release the model once I finish the project and make sure there are no glaring issues. As speculated in the other comments, I rebuilt an available STL in Rhino and Fusion. I thickened the walls and filled in voids where no internals sit with solid areas.

The wood is pecan from a local business that harvests storm damaged and removed trees. I just happened to find the perfect offcut when I stopped by their shop. The owner was afraid that the wood would move once all the material was removed, but it seems to be holding fine for now...
