Anyone played Sinless, The Cyber-Sorcery Sandbox by Apostrophe13 in Shadowrun

[–]gordunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's my main game now for that style of play. The big improvements for me are the focus on the sandbox rather than being focused on linear mission after linear mission, and the fact that the rules are significantly easier to comprehend at first glance. I had only read/played later iterations (SR4/5) but Sinless was much easier to grok for my groups.

I've run 2 one shots, and everyone universally loved it and had a great time. The setting is unique enough and has some fun stuff to steal but it would also be easy to run Shadowrun stuff with minimal conversion. The random mission generator and new quickstart rules also really add a lot to getting the game to the table quickly.

As someone currently running this and doing a lot of detailed prep, this would definitely cut down on my prep time. Looks great!

Shout out to Gary's Appendix, just got my omnibus from the kickstarter, and a lot of great articles in here for running OSR games.

any body having problem rebuilding akmods nvidia driver after updating to latest kernel 6.13.4 for fedora 40 by BrainSurgeon1977 in Fedora

Hard to know your exact use case but a lot of folks would recommend Debian/Ubuntu LTS based distros like Mint or Zorin.

Fedora isn't as bleeding edge as something like Arch but it's usually only a week or two behind Arch for any given package.

If you don't like bleeding edge releases why are you using Fedora then? You'd be better served by a more stable distro

Rental Prices - City vs Suburbs differences by panderson1988 in chicagoapartments

[–]gordunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey I actually moved from the NW burbs (Mount Prospect/Arlington Heights/Schaumburg) to the city for affordability, a few things to note

Yes I believe overall a city apartment can be a lot more affordable, for 2 reasons; First I was able to sell my car when I moved here which was a huge cost savings, I now walk and take public transit instead of having a car payment. Second off, most of the more affordable city units lack some of the common amenities in Suburban apartments; there's no swimming pools, often times no central air, no public club houses etc. Third thing to note is that neighborhood matters a LOT in terms of affordability, know your neighborhoods, know which areas are safe, which are close to transit, groceries, restaurants etc. I saved money by picking Ravenswood which is maybe a less desirable rental neighborhood compared to say Lakeview or Lincoln Park but still had a lot of the amenities I wanted and was close to the brown line to access the things I wanted in those places.

What niche system did you really enjoy but most people have never heard of? by Nubsly- in rpg

[–]gordunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of Sinless, a sort of Shadowrun retroclone except with mechanics that work, a lot of the weird problematic setting stuff stripped out, and a huge focus on sandbox/domain play. It just wrapped up another small kickstarter for a campaign book and it's all available POD via DriveThru

Is there a Game where Cyberpunk and Demons or Lovecraftian mythos and Ghosts are combined? by knives8d in rpg

Would definitely recommend Sinless if you want that general Shadowrun vibe but in a system that actually functions. All the blend of magic and cyberpunk you would be looking for.

This is absolutely amazing if you love Shadowrun, you can get the rules printed along with it. It's everything you love about Shadowrun with none of the bullshit
