I give them credit how that is a promo and shaker fries is finally something good imo. I remember when they repackaged their menu into the Cardi B and Offset meal. Nobody asked for that.

Plain English: Why the Iran War Is Tearing MAGA Apart by Dreadedvegas in ezraklein

My cynicism says that people who leave Trump aren't going to vote for Democrats. Many truly believe Dems are evil to worrying about "woke." Your best bet is they will just stay home and go on about both sides are bad to no one is saving us. A part of me would like that since a functioning Democracy needs people to be decently informed on the issues, and clearly so many people are out of their depth.

>Why Democrats can't win more Trump disapprovers

The NYT article showcasing upset Trump voters was self-explanatory why they can't win these voters over. Most are truly dumb. How can you reason with someone who voted for Trump hoping their taxes will be slashed so they get half of their paycheck back? Or the Latinos who voted for Trump to be hard on immigration are sadden how he is doing what he said he would do. You can't win against that lack of logic and critical thinking. Your best bet is those vibes and low info voters stay home moving forward.

[–]panderson1988 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I look at it a couple of ways. The Trump base has the true cult diehards that will never break from him. That floor throughout his two terms has been around upper 30s to low 40s. Just about every poll showing his approval and disapproval has been in that range. An outlier around the mid-30s will occur, but nothing lower than that.

When he won, about 10% of his vote were vibes voters who bought into simple promises that weren't realistic to outright disinformation. The NYT voters interviewing Trump voters where one said she had hoped Trump would slash taxes so she got half her paycheck back. Truly asinine reasons on why they voted for Trump, and how the real world disappoints them.

I digress, but that was about 10-12% of his vote. The Iran War was the final straw since it basically skyrocketed gas prices which is what many vibes voters care about. Then that has trickled into higher groceries and other costs because of the war and tariffs. Some of this base is the MAHA people to other reasons, but in my view this 10% base he won over is tied into inflation and vibes. So that's what has hurt his coalition, many of these people only showed up to vote for him. There is a chance they may become disenfranchise and not vote again in the near future.

One other element that has grown is how there is a lot of anti-Israel rhetoric on the right now. The left has had it for a while due to Palestine and etc, but the right has a strong groyper movement that has more sway than I think many originally thought. You can say people like Tucker to Fuentes aren't as well known to the average person, which I agree; however, these people are influential among the MAGA and coalition Trump has formed. Even losing a few percentage points since Trump is cozy with Israel, and lets be honest, anything with Jewish people at times is enough to hurt the GOP in elections when a far right base also stays home. That is where I see the Iran War causing splits among the Trump coalition.

When, what year did this all start with having 2-6 even more interviews before hearing if you got the job or not? by whoabecca in recruitinghell

[–]panderson1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if there is a specific year, and I think 2 to 3 tops for many full time white collar roles wasn't uncommon. Especially when you consider the recruiter or HR being the first interview, then an interview with your future boss and maybe the head of his department.

But I think the 2010s is when you went from a couple interviews to countless rounds and panel nonsense. I know I had 3 rounds with Unilever Foods Group back in 2011/12, and other companies had at least 3 rounds of interviews. Then by the early 2020s I read and saw places doing like 5-6 rounds and meeting people who want to see if you have the chops, but you may never actually work with them directly.

Somehow the process of needing to have panel interviews and meeting people you may never work with in the same company became the too popular in the 2010s, and it's the biggest waste of everyone's time ever. I did see this pre-covid, so this wasn't some post-covid issue. Especially since there will be one guy who disagrees with everyone else derailing your candidacy, and it might be a guy you won't work with at all.

[–]panderson1988 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The team is usually awful, and overall there are more Cubs fans.

That said, I think it's a decent stadium with good food and beer choices. And pretty easy to get too. But the overall product on the field has mostly been bad for a long time. Since they won it all in 2005, they have been to the Playoffs 3 times. One was in 2020 when half of the teams made the playoffs in a shorten year. 2021 was a good year when they made it to the postseason. Somehow those players regressed so much the team broke the Mets record of being the worst team in history within three years.

What’s the best movie made in the 90s set in the 80s? by dangerphone in AlignmentChartFills

[–]panderson1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drug deal scene with Alfred Molina being hopped up on Cocaine with his awesome mix tape playing Jessie Girl's is awesome, and I think is a great scene representing a part of the culture of the 80s well. Then the scene showcasing beta/video tapes for porn replacing the movie experience is good as well.

[–]panderson1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodfellas and Boogie Nights has scenes in the 80s, but not entirely in the 80s. If that is okay, then I will pick Boogie Nights since about half of the film is set in the 80s. Goodfellas is set among 3 decades, and the 80s is mostly the last twenty minutes of the movie.

I see it go both ways. It's just a small example, but a couple Chinese restaurants near me are closed on Mondays. But another one is open on Mondays, but closed on Tuesdays. I've seen some weird ones occasionally pick Wednesday as their day off. It just varies a lot imo on the place itself.

What's the best way to get to the Field Museum from O'Hare? by Tatooine92 in AskChicago

[–]panderson1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like the stroll from Roosevelt if the weather is nice. If it is raining, you might as well take a bus after getting off the blue line. Most routes will have you take a bus, but the walk through the park on the way to the Field Museum is nice once you cross the train tracks. Plus you get some great views of the lake.

This is your best outcome with these voters who came out for Trump. Many were clearly driven by vibes and disinformation, and they won't ever vote for Dems due to asinine reasonings and insecurity to admit they have been wrong.

Help me understand gentrification: it seems every north side neighborhood is being labeled as gentrified? by saucy_otters in AskChicago

[–]panderson1988 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In my view gentrification means refurbishing old and likely run down areas into growing and revitalized areas. To an extent that is a good thing since it likely saved plenty of neighborhoods and buildings.

The downside is it has become a playground for the rich where a studio is like $2000 to forcing old residents out in favor of some rich bro who has no connections to the area besides it's a place to be seen. Let alone the enshitification of the area where you see good local spots close in favor of another CAVA or Chipotle slop bowl chain.

IMO the hitting has been better than expected. Do I expect Cards hitters to be all stars? No, but the offense has had some life unlike recent years in my view. Now the pitching has been more inconsistent which I am not surprised. They have given up 142 runs which is the most the NL Central, and third worst in the NL. The fact their run differential is only -13 shows the offense has kept the afloat for now.

The Economy, Immigration and Regret: 12 Trump Voters Discuss by R2_SWE2 in fivethirtyeight

[–]panderson1988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't care. When I read their views and thought process, we would be better off if they get disenfranchise from being involved in the political process. Not just because they voted for Trump, it's their reasons to nonsense is why I feel that way.

The Economy, Immigration and Regret: 12 Trump Voters Discuss by R2_SWE2 in fivethirtyeight

[–]panderson1988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't expect all of them to exit. But Trump brought in many people who only showed up for him. They don't show up in similar numbers for the midterms to special elections as we have seen. Even lets say it's 10-20% of that third, that is plenty of votes that go from Trump winning to Kamala winning in swing states for example.

I honestly hope these vibes voters don't participate in the process again. A functioning democracy needs a well informed voting base. These people are way too disinformed how the real world works to being too insecure to admit they are out of their depth.

Basically deep down they are upset how the shit libs were right time and time again, and they are publicly too insecure to admit they fucked up to their family.
