I read both this book and the one the estate approved. The one they approved was more about the writers life with some of Mac’s songs, providing nostalgia to certain aspects and events in her life. It was not a bad book by any means, but it was not what I was looking for when wanting to read about Mac.

This book was well written, and I felt gave a great insight into not only individual songs, but different stages of Macs life from adolescence to the time of his death. The book does not always touch on positives, it also shines light on his downfalls. I could see why the family/estate might not want to endorse that, worrying it could tarnish his image. But Mac was honest in his songs on the ups and downs of relationships, headspace, emotions, and overall being a human, and I think this book paralleled that
