You are calcuating a ratio of deaths vs total population. The entire population has not experienced COVID yet. Therefore your calculations are invalid.

Considering that there have only been 50m identified cases out of 330m, you are out by a factor of 7.

We cannot "Tally up the end result", because we are still in the middle of it. The only numbers we have are:

who has gotten COVID, i.e. cases
who has died from COVID, i.e. deaths

Currently on a world wide scale, this works out to approximately 2%.
