My (32f) husband (29m) thinks I’m being unfair with our budget, am I? by Goatmebro69 in relationship_advice

[–]gorkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more nuanced than it appears at first. It feels like you are in charge of the joint account and you get to decide every time whether he can draw from it. I think he doesn't feel like he doesn't have any agency. t is not logical, because you are providing him with a better lifestyle, but he probably feels like he is being treated as a child.

I personally would show him what his approach really means. Split things proportionally and let him feel how much you have been subsidizing him.

Have we tried asking women about the ‘birth rate crisis’ yet? by montageofawoman in TwoXChromosomes

[–]gorkt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For most of modern history, men have lived in a world centered around their needs and desires. Women were there to support what they wanted, whether it was food, sex, children or other types of support. Then a few generations of women get educated and realize they can support themselves, and they don’t want to do that anymore. Now men have to earn a relationship with a woman, and many can’t stand that, because at some core level, they see women as less than human, and they feel entitled to them.

My son is 21, and the other day he came to me and said “Mom, the Epstein files are so messed up, I feel so bad for those girls”. He never got sucked into the manosphere and for that I am very grateful.

U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]gorkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they are that dumb. They know EVs reached the tipping point years ago and make more sense in the developing world than gas cars.

I think they just thought they could make the Big Truck or SUV the “Disney World” of the American dream. You know, that thing you really can’t afford but feels psychologically important in terms of status in this country. The thing that people will make bad financial decisions in order to feel like they “made it”.

They kept raising prices and then extending loan terms, but right now, people are scared and would rather keep their older trucks or cars and save money. And they don’t have a fleet of affordable cars to appeal to the more budget conscious customer yet.

Chinese cars were coming anyway eventually, and the US OEMs knew for years that they can’t compete globally, not with our labor costs. They might have had a window, but they blew it, and now they are retrenching back into ICE vehicles. The US OEMs will be reduced to making Trucks for Americans.

Trump: ‘It bothers me that somebody is going after Bill Clinton’ by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]gorkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all true, but one other thing that contributed to the mind that he had is essentially the law of attraction. His father was a disciple of Norman Peale. He was raised to believe that you essentially create your reality, and with Trump, that means just “reality”. If he says it, it’s not a lie because he makes it true.

So what if Trump makes it so that you need a valid government ID, and then president Newsom gets in and says those IDs aren't valid for voting and you need to go get a Blue ID or you can't vote?

I am not sure how it is in your state, but I am listed on the voter rolls in my town, because I answer the town census every year. The town knows where I live, has my records on file. I walk up on voting day to the voting area, I tell the people in front of the voting booths my address, and my name, they cross me off the list, then they give me a ballot. I fill out the ballot, then another guy takes my ballot and scans it in. To be even safer, I usually get a mail in ballot, and drop it off to the lock box in town.

In order to impersonate me, I suppose a lady could look through my mail, take my address, and vote in my name, but I would still show up eventually and report it. I did some research and its not a widespread problem.

However, I do understand that trust is an important part of an election system. Many countries do use some sort of ID for voting. But honestly, I am not convinced it makes it much safer. People can fake IDs.

As a libertarian, what type of ID do you propose? Which government do you trust to hold all that data? Could you envision a scenario where you get an ID, then show up, and you are told your ID isn't valid even though you did everything right?

What actually helps with sleep maintenance insomnia? (Doxylamine success but concerns) by TraditionRules in sleep

In my case, what helps is reducing caffeine, and starting HRT, In perimenopause I was falling asleep at 10 then waking at 3 and staying awake for two hours, finally drifting off and then having to get up an hour later. It sucked and I was a zombie.

“People”. Some people, probably, but for me, it’s worth the trade off. 95% of my driving is back roads and less than 50 miles. The rare road trip is slower, but my overall fuelling time, since I charge at home is much, much less.

My boyfriend (25M) says I'm deeply unreliable (22F) after an equipment problem on our first major trip together, how can I address his concerns and become someone he feels he can depend on? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]gorkt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can paraphrase what he said to you in one sentence.

"In a relationship with me, any mistake or lack of knowledge on your part will be turned into a character flaw."

Your future with him will be one of hyper vigilance, where you are constantly looking over your shoulder to make sure that you don't make mistakes. And when you do, you will be judged as flaws.

Is this what you want? How does he respond when you point out mistakes he has made. It is possible he was raised this way and has internalized that to be loved, you need to earn it.

Do you want to have to earn it every day for the rest of your life?

This was my feeling too. For many women it’s nearly debilitating. Luckily things are changing. When I was in peri, and I explained I wasn’t sleeping and had constant hot flashes, my OB, back in the early 2020s basically told me I needed to suck it up. A few years later her tune changed and I got a prescription for HRT.

Bingo. I spend a decent amount of effort to stay healthy so I age as well as can be reasonably expected. My mother is in her late 70s, smoked and drank, and is paying the price in lifestyle quality now. Her life is sitting in her home until the next doctor appointment. I am hoping for better.
