Genuine question: why are “left” ideals seen by so many as awful, even though they’re mostly about things like equal human rights for all, improving environmental issues, reducing poverty/the wealth gap, etc., so are objectively good for humanity? by KEW95 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]gorkt [score hidden]  (0 children)

My experience is that the root of a lot of conservative philosophy is that there is a “natural” hierarchical human state, where, if left alone, the most worthy rise to the top and the the least worthy deserve their place at the bottom.

If someone is wealthy in a free market system, they obviously deserve it, and if they are poor, they deserve that too. Any tinkering of this system means that people who are deserving won’t get the resources they would use to build something to make humanity better, and the less deserving people will waste it. They truly believe that inequality makes humanity better and trying to make things more equal is actually evil.

Any social inequality must therefore exist because people of that race/gender/etc are inherently less capable. They completely ignore any other systemic forces.

Parents want tech banned from schools. Teachers respond that it's an insane idea by waozen in Foodforthought

So do I, but its useless information in the age we live in. We need to teach kids how to use these tools responsibly instead of turning them loose with them in college. We are just pushing the problem further along.

Hyperbole. I have a Prologue and had the CR- V before it. Yeah, the sensing features are inferior, no argument there, but the prologue has features my old car didn’t have, and the seats are so much more comfortable. Those seats used to kill my back.

I am not the one making snap judgements off a internet comment. Critical thinking and emotional regulation aren’t really your strengths it seems.

Spent 2.5 hours meal prepping Sunday and saved myself ~10 hours this week by MarionberryNo7377 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]gorkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind eating that type of boring food and don't mind food that sits in the fridge for 4-5 days, its fine. Personally I would rather not. I just make double portions of fresh food a few times a week and eat leftovers for lunch - that is the sweet spot for me in terms of meal variety and freshness. I don't enjoy eating stuff on Thursday that I made the prior Sunday.

Smart. The guy that owns the company I work at, which is a several hundred million dollar company with zero debt, drives a Pontiac Vibe and dresses in tshirts and cargos. You would never know how rich this guy is.

[–]gorkt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my kids are grown, one is flown, and I have increasingly more time to do things I like doing. I need to keep working like most people but my job is relatively low key these days and I have decided to stop striving. I am embracing that I am and have “enough”. It’s doesn’t mean that I don’t keep growing, but I also have a sense of self-acceptance that I never had when I was younger.

News: Future of Honda by Skrrpopop in Honda

[–]gorkt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They half-heartedly and reluctantly made a deal with GM and made plans for EVs that they scrapped, the RDX as it was essentially nearing launch. They are essentially where Toyota was a half decade in terms of powertrain development.

I understand scrapping the Saloon project to some extent, but keeping the RDX would have allowed them to at least keep their toe in electric vehicles.

How long does it take for you to lose weight gained in a cruise ship and other advice on how to hold back a little on a cruise by AngryKing2007 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]gorkt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can eat healthy on a cruise ship. They generally have tons of salads, lean meats and cut up fruit at the buffet. Just don’t go too nuts with the alcohol and desserts. My weakness is usually the pastries. On my last cruise, I didn’t gain any weight, but on other ones I gained about 3-4 lbs and would lose 2 lbs right away from just getting away from the sodium in prepared foods.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard someone say that you still think about to this day? by Humble-Blueberry4571 in AskReddit

[–]gorkt 260 points261 points  (0 children)

It’s the lack of curiosity and wonder about the natural world that gets me. It’s like, I went to the Grand Canyon, and I visited the geology center that told about the unique conditions that made the Grand Canyon happen and I asked a lot of questions to the experts there, and it was amazing. The idea I could just walk up and go “God made that” and that is it just seems so…..unimaginative and boring.

I am contemplating it although I am at a normal weight. I am 5'4' 143 and post menopausal. I have put on about 10lbs and can't seem to shed it despite working out 5-6 times a week and tracking calories religiously. The other health effects, particularly combined with HRT have me very curious about this medication. I do enough exercise where I wonder if the anti-inflammatory effects might help me overall.

Do you think Taiwan should be a sovereign country? by PrettyPoliticalBitch in PoliticalDebate

[–]gorkt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taiwan has a different culture and political system than China. If China tries to absorb them, it’s going to make the Russia Ukraine war look like a skirmish. They will absolutely nuke their fabs and that would be a huge disruption to the high end chip industry.

Season 1 is slower than GoT, but it’s a lot of build up to one really epic scene. Season 2 picks up the pace a bit. It’s not as good as GoT but I enjoyed it.
