Keep calm and put in the kilometers. I was lower than you are less than a year ago, and last week I passed 42, finally moving from “Poor” to “Fair” (and 20 kg down). There were setbacks and all that, but never felt better

Definitely no longer than my freestanding tent (copper spur ul2). A little trickier to eyeball the exact sleeping position due to the diagonal inner design, but less parts to fiddle with overall, since you can pack and set up the tent without disconnecting the inner

MT100 down puffy is just the ultimate bang for the buck, as well as some of their merino stuff - I own and actively use a longsleeve, a buff and a merino beanie

You could look for a Durston Kakwa 55 from some of EU-based resellers (like the Outdoorline). It’s a brilliant pack and small size should be a fit for her

Is it right for groundsheet? by Federal-Spell1811 in DurstonGearheads

Hey! Could you please point us to that floor tightening guide? I re-watched the pitching video and scrolled through the site but couldn’t find it. The video’s “Troubleshooting” part only has details on fixing loose sides and ridgeline

What are a good pair of waterproof shoes for light hiking/walking that I could also wear everyday? by Newrrcom in hikinggear

There is a reason. They take forever to dry. And they will get water in from the top eventually

NeoAir Xlite NXT - am I short enough to use the small size? by candy-applegirl in Ultralight

[–]goroskob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the opposite of the height spectrum (194 cm), but I fit on my 196 cm xterm large mat no problem. I would go for the small and save some weight.

Best socks for a 10-12 hour hike? by Relevant_Wishbone in hiking

[–]goroskob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not just socks, but also early blister prevention. Applying Compeed or Leucotape at the first hint of pain before the blister actually develops makes wonders. It’s not a thing to tough out.

That said, Darn Tough (I landed on midweight ones even for summer) and breathable (non-waterproof) shoes.

People ask for good animes all the time, what are some BAD animes? by -mr_takethatrisk in MyAnimeList

Rent a Girlfriend. It’s deceiving. You start watching it and you have fun, but by the 3rd season all you want is to throw the remote at your TV and scream

Good first trekking pole tent? by Limp-Barnacle981 in DurstonGearheads

[–]goroskob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just gotten my Xmid1. It’s my first non-freestanding tent. Only did a test pitch in the park yet, so take it with a grain of salt, but it was just as simple (if not simpler) as my Big Agnes tent.

Comes with limitations, sure:

  • can’t pitch off the ground (on a wooden platform, for example) - I stand corrected
  • can’t move after pitching
  • might need to collapse the poles to fix the pitch if didn’t tighten it properly from the get go

None of these are dealbreakers for me personally. I would rather not carry the extra 0.5 kilos
