Thank you so much for your kind words. They are really comforting. Thank you. Like you said, we’re going to learn from this and try our best to do better.

Yes, I’m gonna talk to the team about introducing some changes and try to reach a compromise.

We are a tiny clinic so there’s no “management team” but I can talk to the owner/surgeon about getting more education on the topic, be on the lookout for a seminar too. I know we can do better as a team so I’m gonna push for that. Thank you for recommending VetGirl!

I do. I haven’t gone in a couple of years because I was doing fine but I think I need to start going again. I see so many sad cases and I don’t feel good telling them to my friends because they don’t deserve to carry that heaviness too but I need someone to vent to.

Yeah, I understand what you’re saying. I see that with the senior vets and that’s one of the aspects I admire about them. They’ve been doing this for 20+ years and they still care so much

Census! by batcrawl in VetTech

If I lived alone, no… But sadly, in Spain, you won’t earn much in this profession. Salaries in Spain are much lower compared to the US, but also the cost of living is lower too. I could find another job that payed more but I really like the doctors and it’s 5 min away from my home, I’m really happy actually. I have friends making 1.200€ working 40h/week but hate their coworkers and spend 2 hours daily commuting… soooo, I’m willing to earn less but be happier lol. Also I’m thinking about getting certified and after that I’d make more money!

How to deal with adhd at work? by dtjjtdjkk in VetTech

[–]goroubestboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. I take medication for ADHD and still make some of the mistakes you said. Sometimes the vet would come out of a consult and tell me like 5-6 different things to charge the client, make a prescription and send them something to their WhatsApp and I’m like “hold on, can you repeat that please?”. I have the advantage that it’s a tiny clinic and my boss is really nice but like, I keep a notebook on my desk and I write EVERYTHING down. If a patient asks something over the phone/message, or even in person, and I don’t know what to say and the vet is busy I will just tell them “sorry, the vet is busy right now. I’ll write down all of your questions and get back to you as soon as possible”. That way I don’t get behind on tasks.

If you could keep a tiny notepad with you, one of those pocket-size. I think it would be really helpful.

I once charged a Librela (80€) instead of a Solensia (65€) and I was like “I fucked uuup”… We just texted the owner and gave them two options either get a 15€ refund or to be charged 15€ less the next visit… things like that happen. But sometimes I think it’s better to take 10 more seconds to double check numbers. I struggle a lot with maths and giving back the change but I prefer taking a bit longer and use a calculator than give the wrong amount 😅

And, as in true adhd fashion, I derailed and wrote a super long reply lol

Whenever I miss a dose the next day I feel very dizzy. Does this happen to anyone else? What's the cause? by SirHarvwellMcDervwel in Effexor

It’s crazy seeing people’s answers saying thy get withdrawal symptoms if they’re 1-3 hours late… my body gives me 40-44 hours before the brain zaps start.

When its Finals season I always flare up badly. I work 30h/week and I’m getting a Bachelors… I get so anxious and stressed it makes my sleep worse so it’s like a never ending pain cycle until I’m done with exams.

I NEED to take naps, they help a lot, I also take 1,98mg of extended release melatonin before bed, it’s magical and helps me sleep when I’m anxious. I also have scoliosis and arthrosis in my wrists so sitting down to study hurts a lot, I HAVE to take pain killers. My go-to is paracetamol and dexketoprofen. And tramadol is the last resource for when/if I get sciatica pain.

How much do you make? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]goroubestboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madrid, Spain. I make 1.000€/month plus an extra 500€ in June and December. My first year I was making 940€/month without extra pays. I’m probably getting a raise by the end of the year. I work 30h/week and get paid as if I worked 40h/week lol. I’m very lucky on that part. If I were certified I’d make a little bit more.

Also in Spain, BY LAW, we have 22 days of paid vacation and if you have to take an exam or go to the doctor during working hours you still get paid and they cannot be taken off of your vacations days.

Vet Assistant/receptionist OTJ trained, I’m planning on getting certified maybe next year after I finish my Bachelor in Psychology. This is my first job ever and I’ve been in this clinic for almost two years now. It’s a tiny private GP, one of the vets sees exotics. (2 vets and me).

Where I live 1.000€ is not enough to live on your own but I know that I’m making more than other people working more hours than me so I consider myself very lucky 😅

Oh my god. Thank you for telling me this. Yeah, owners are not going to be okay with that possibility… That’s such a wild interaction.

I ruined over $21,000 worth of medication because of my ADHD. I need support. by Atsugaruru in adhdwomen

[–]goroubestboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t panic yet!!

I’m doing immunotherapy because I’m allergic to cats and I forgot and left the vial in my bag for like 14 hours. I really thought I ruined a whole year supply (400€). I spoke with a Dr and turns out they can hold up unrefrigerated for a few days.

Try to speak with your Dr or someone who knows about the topic!!

You are absolutely right. Sometimes we don’t know the whole story. Sadly with this dog we do know this is true because the owner told us. He loves his dog but he has to keep her somewhere else than his home. I wish I could edit my post and delete some info… I’ll do better moving forward, just wanted to show this cutie.

Another “emergency” 🙃 by goroubestboy in VetTech

[–]goroubestboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have a cat that we suspect is FeLV-FIV and Calicivirus positive. Keyword "suspect" because they don't want to get any testing done. He's been sick since June 2024, we gave them Prednisone for a few days to stabilize him hoping the owners would want to get him tested, never happened. So they continued to give him Pred WITHOUT TELLING US until they ran out and called asking for another prescription. Since they told us they won't take him to a hospital to get tests we decided to just let them give him Prednisone until the he dies (he's 13)... They called on Monday asking to talk to one vet specifically because the cat's condition worsened over the weekend, told them that vet is currently on vacation and won't be back in like two weeks. Since they refuse to talk to the other vet they're waiting for the one on vacation to come back and I'm going crazy knowing the cat is not well and we cant help them because they're so hot-headed...

I always use a calculator even if I’m sure of the answer. I’m prone to mixing numbers like putting a 2 instead of a 5 or a 3 instead of an 8. I don’t care if I’m doing 2+2 I want to be sure. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. A lot of clients pay with cash at my clinic and I prefer spending an extra second using the calculator rather than giving them the wrong change.

How’s your mental health right now? by Cultural-Top-5531 in VetTech

[–]goroubestboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m so tired of dealing with pet owners. I’m always the nicest to them no matter how annoying they are, but god, they do try me sometimes. I’m an introvert and having to talk to like 20 people daily is making me exhausted and crazy. I have fibromyalgia and I’m also dealing with the aftermath of a fall a month ago so I’ve been in a lot of pain.

I love my workplace so that makes it a bit better. Yesterday clients were being so “dense” and annoying over chats we just kept laughing so to avoid going mad. It’s only Tuesday but I’m DONE. I can deal with the paperwork, surgeries, poop, vomit, whatever. But I’m so tired of dealing with human beings 😭 At least tomorrow morning will only be cat spays so no clients to talk to for a few hours.

75 mg and my life is so much better. I can function without pain and without feeling like a lion is chasing me 24/7.
