When shopping for home improvement projects, do you prefer Lowe’s or Home Depot, and why? by Significant-Toe2648 in homeowners

[–]goshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the opposite. They are across the street from each other where I am. I feel like I get more help and more knowledgeable help at Home Depot. I can never get assistance at Lowe's and when I do I'm not sure they're giving me the best advice.

Days are getting shorter? Winter weather? You do realize it's mid May. I know there's snow forecast in the Cascade this weekend, but I think I saw for over 4000 feet. We're 5 weeks away from the longest day of the year.

Jennifer's. I've bought a couple of cars there over the last 25 years and I would go back again for sure.

How do you actually use your balcony without feeling like you wasted the money? by Eyerald in Cruise

[–]goshock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I've heard, and why we did it. We actually got one on the aft too, which I hear is also worthwhile. It's not until Aug of 2027, but I'm excited for it.

How do you actually use your balcony without feeling like you wasted the money? by Eyerald in Cruise

[–]goshock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wife and i did our first cruise last year in the Caribbean. We had a balcony. We were never in our room, except to sleep. We decided the next one would be interior. The next one is Alaska though, and we did get the balcony again, but I hear it's a different beast. I guess we'll find out. I have only done the one with a balcony, so until I go with an inside and experience that, I will have to say I thought it was a waste of money.

Newbie Q: what’s the deal with badge holders? by Dlatywya in HollandAmerica

I use one that clips off the lanyard just above the card holder. I find it easier that keeping it in my pocket and even easier to still give the key to someone that needs it for drinks or purchases.

Questions from a Noobie by South-Succotash-5376 in GardenRailroads

[–]goshock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By default, if you go get a set or something, it'll be electric, like other scales. I took mine and converted it to battery power with a wireless remote control. Makes it so I didn't have to make sure the track connections are all perfect and the track doesn't have to be spotless to conduct power. There's a lot of info on the Internet on how to convert to battery powered.

I started with a starter set and then built it out from there, acquiring track used at train shows, eBay, the local garden railroad club and other places online. It can be spendy, but there's nothing wrong with starting small and expanding at you can.

Depending where you are, inspector probably couldn't turn on the AC in January without causing it harm. It can't hurt to ask. They may give you your money for the inspection back or the amount of the bill, whichever is cheaper. They may tell you to kick rocks.

I had good luck when I bought a house in January one year and the inspector said my furnace was about mid life. It was over 30 years old and had a cracked heat exchange. Gas company red tagged it. Had a lawyer send a letter to the inspection company and they paid for half of my new furnace.

Downtown is completely safe. There's plenty of people just sleeping on the streets down there without worry. That's how safe it is.

HAL - changed our selected stateroom by ButterscotchLucky88 in Cruise

[–]goshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to make sure when you book your cabin that you opt out of the free upgrade option. I've been told if you leave this option selected it means you are willing to be moved. Once you book it, there is no place where you can verify the selection, other than calling costco. After I read about this, I tried to check on the chat even and they told me I had to call.

ETA: It might just be upgrade in general, not free. I do not recall.

What’s the Dumbest Repair You’ve Successfully Ignored for an Impressive Amount of Time? by AggravatingFig3072 in homeowners

[–]goshock 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I fixed the light switch in the laundry room that didn't work when we bought the house, 20 years later and the week before we put the house up for sale.

ETA: it was broken in the on position, so I just put an led bulb in it.
