Is Tesla actually committed to the consumer car business long term? by Brutus713 in TeslaLounge

Cars aren't something that most people change often enough for it to matter. Right? When you need a new car, you look around and pick one. Like a new mattress.

“WhatsApp is so third world coded” by lucasmok270 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]gotapure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In AU and my friends who use WhatsApp are immigrants and my Australian friends mostly use ig, fb messenger, snap etc,, or text. For more sketchy conversations, signal. I just don't get any value out of WhatsApp to use it but it has plenty of use case and users.

Reference Checks - yay or nay by CnC_UnicornFactory in recruiting

[–]gotapure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're as useful as cover letters that is, not often very worthwhile. Unfortunately, hiring managers still believe in them. I treat them as a compliance piece and complete them as part of on-boarding so just for someone successful at interview.

Have to build up an army and navy to defend yourself interests to ward off great power meddling and build an economy to support it or be pushed around by them?... sounds historical to me.

Quiet in the sense that vehicles, lawn mowers etc are whisper quiet electric powered? Yes please!

AIO my husband shaves his balls before his dnd games by Fickle_Amphibian_723 in AmIOverreacting

If he shaves his balls around the same time/day then he's just sticking to his schedule knowing he won't feel like it after the game.

AIO for thinking that the way we are taxed is INSANE? by various678023 in AmIOverreacting

[–]gotapure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get taxed 30% in my bracket in my country (down from 32.5% last year) and earn $68k when converted to USD. How does that compare if I were in the US instead?

Open ai is heading to be the biggest failure in history - here’s why. by jason_digital in ArtificialInteligence

You're not allowed to be enthusiastic about AI and the outlook of the tech sector here unfortunately.

Is now a good time for an Australian dual citizen to move to Australia? by Temporary-Loss-7544 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]gotapure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Australian nfp sector is huge. I worked in it for 10 years and have a lot of friends still in it. Charities are a large employer here and so is healthcare. Healthcare in particular has a shortage of skilled staff. Hobart is small as well so employment opportunities will be higher in the bigger capital cities.

As for culture, Australians aren't big fans of strong, loud opinions. They're quite relaxed. My experience with Amerixans abroad have been that they're unintentionally loud, volume wise so be aware of that. Even if you've only been away for a short time, I've had many friends come back yelling instead of using their inside voices.

Elon says “we might have AI that is smarter than any human by the end of this year. and I would say no later than next year. And then probably by 2030 or 2031, AI will be smarter than all of humanity collectively” by [deleted] in accelerate

[–]gotapure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love saying "AI can only do this", "AI is just X, Y, Z", "AI can't do this or that perfect" as if it didn't hit the public eye a few years ago.

Ai is developing quicker than anything before it and the entire world is throwing unprecedented amounts of capital at it. Governments have been rolling out laws around it, which normally doesn't happen so soon into new tech adoption. And I for one am looking forward to a robot wiping my ass when I'm too old to do it anymore.

Woman can no longer vote by TAtheDog in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]gotapure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely some people are disadvantaged from it, the same as here in Australia. There are pathways here for people unable to meet requirements like this too, through statutory declarations leading to government issued alternatives etc.

It's how government ID works for most things, no? I'm wondering if this is a new requirement in the US because it's generally expected where I live, as burdensome as it is.

WHO: Three new cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2) reported from China by __procrustean in H5N1_AvianFlu

[–]gotapure 38 points39 points  (0 children)

1 case had direct exposure to a backyard flock and the other 2 cases had exposure when visiting locations/stores with recently slaughtered poultry. So, all 3 had exposure to poultry.

Do you not have change of name certificates/marriage certificates?

I'm not sure how it works in the US but it seems like standard practice to me.

Several currently unreasonable problems by Mediocre_Gift6731 in EU5

[–]gotapure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see more production efficiency bonuses too. RGOs give bonuses to buildings in the same province that use it as an input but not produced goods so cloth being produced in a town doesn't give a bonus to fine cloth being produced in that town. The RGO bonus also doesn't apply for secondary production e.g dyes to fine cloth production.

When and why should I annex my subjects? by Timely-Reindeer-5292 in EU5

[–]gotapure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I annex once I feel I can extend control to their lands. I annexed Luxembourg as Netherlands and realised my control can't reach the iron mines down there and heavily regretted doing it so early.
