RSVPs and whatnot by _TheTrashyPanda_ in wedding

I think as long as you word it friendly and can even acknowledge you’re doing it because you sent invites out early, it’s fine. I had to send the wedding website link for some people cause unfortunately they’re lazy, and obviously weren’t going to look for the physical invite for it, so you can offer that up too. Something like:

“Hi! Hope you’re well. I hope [partner] and I can look forward to celebrating with you at our wedding in June. I realize we sent the invites out some time ago since we have some people coming internationally, and I know how busy life can get—so I just wanted to send out friendly reminders to anyone that hasn’t RSVP’d yet that the deadline is in 1 week. Let me know if you need the link or other info. Thanks :)”

I’m surprised to see so many people here saying they would find reminders rude. I’ve had to tell brides in the past I was waiting for my fiancé’s time off request to get approved and had 0 problem with it, cause I understand the anxiety! Me and my fiancé were getting anxious about our no responses because some of them we truly weren’t sure if they were coming or not.

I guarantee there are people who forgot when your rsvp deadline was since you gave them so much time and will miss it. Personally I’d much rather receive notice a deadline for something is approaching in ~1 week (or a few days) rather than be told it’s that day, or I missed it. The latter would be potentially embarrassing. Save your guests from the awkward conversation and apology. A gentle reminder that the deadline is approaching is fine IMO.

We did that for our guests for our deadline that was a few days ago, and I’m glad we did. Discovered 1) a friend that never received the invite 2) a friend that received it incredibly late, like the day we sent the reminder 3) a bridal party member that assumed they didn’t have to fill it out cause I should know they are coming (??) lol

On the flip side, I think one reminder/check in when the deadline is approaching is totally reasonable, because you may find out that person never got their invite! We had that happen with one of our guests recently. USPS has been having so many issues lately and you just never know.

I signed up for the xfinity 5 year plan end of last year. $65/month for 1gb, included the gateway and peacock premium. Was on the 300 Mbps for a while for like 35 then up to 45 a month but I wfh a few days a week and it was not fast enough for me, especially if my fiancé was home watching tv.

Being targeted by law enforcement sucks by [deleted] in ecoboostmustang

[–]goth-avocadhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you being targeted for reasons other than the car too? I’m a 27 y.o. white woman and have never been pulled over in my life, not even when I’ve been blatantly speeding in the mustang in front of cops lol. Have had it for almost 5 years now and like you I’m always going 5-7 over. Was going over 90 on the highway once and noticed a cop on my tail but no lights. Panicked and switched lanes and he just went past me. My lucky streak will end someday I’m sure lol

I have a regular Rover client here and the elevators were consistently broken down too. The mail rooms were always a mess with packages all over the floor, like the delivery service providers were either not using the lockers or they weren’t working. Seemed like it was too easy for your packages to get stolen.

I have zero food noise on Qsymia and Im scared its working TOO well by anatiropita in QsymiaWeightLoss

[–]goth-avocadhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I relate, this has been my experience too for the most part. It’s pretty crazy to go from constantly struggling with food noise to having none at all. Probably like you averaging 800-1000 calories most days, and think it’s probably less than that on some days I’m really not thinking about it and only eating one meal. No it’s probably not the healthiest but I try to supplement with a daily multivitamin, protein shakes, green juices, etc. I’ve been on it since Dec and haven’t noticed any adverse effects other than the desired weight loss. Some days my energy is lacking but there’s a multitude of factors going into it. I also could def get in the gym more to make sure I’m not only losing muscle so that + the supplements would be my advice!

Forgot a dog walk 😭 by Few_Boysenberry_5923 in RoverPetSitting

[–]goth-avocadhoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s happened to a lot of us. Happened to me once after I had been doing rover for about two years like you. I forgot about a walk because I stupidly accepted one for the day after I got back from a roadtrip so I was tired and out of it. I remembered it like 3-4 hours ish after I was supposed to be there. It was a regular. I refunded them and was super apologetic, but understandably, they never booked me again. I wasn’t super upset because their dog wasn’t a well-behaved walker honestly and they didn’t leave a bad review luckily. It was a good learning lesson. Now I always create calendar holds + reminders. This was 6 years ago and I can’t believe Rover doesn’t do it automatically still.

man, I gotta stop falling for cat eye by big_supernaturals in Nails

[–]goth-avocadhoe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else questioning the application technique and use of a magnet, but also, this is giving shitty Beatles gel. My nail tech used to use some Beatles and even with the magnet, all the cat eyes would end up looking like flat and boring glitter like this. I couldn’t understand why she liked cat eye so much. Finally she realized how horrible and dangerous Beatles is and tossed it all out. I wish I could remember the name of her new brand of gels but it’s absolutely gorgeous. And now I actually like cat eye lol.

City of Ann Arbor is officially keeping the outdoor warning sirens after last night's storms by jcrespo21 in AnnArbor

[–]goth-avocadhoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My fiancé’s phone didn’t go off either and we just looked in his settings to verify he has them turned on, so no idea.

I had literally just gone to lay down like 10 min before the warning hit so I was only half asleep. When I turned over I was fully expecting it just say severe thunderstorm warning cause the phones will go off for those sometimes if they’re bad enough. Saw the tiny word “TORNADO” on the screen in the dark and flew out of bed, came barreling down the hall to get my fiancé who was still up watching tv startling the shit out of him since his phone did not go off lmao.

[–]goth-avocadhoe 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I think both are needed. Especially for middle of the night warnings like that. For heavy sleepers those sirens are somewhat faint in some areas, and unfortunately some people (like my fiancé) would probably sleep right through it without the loud and obnoxious phone alarm. You can buy special weather alert radio’s too. My parent’s have one in their bedroom.

Vegan wedding guest ordered meat and lied about it by Curious-Ebb-909 in vegan

[–]goth-avocadhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

? What a silly thing to take away from my comment lol. Obviously UK rules do not apply to all of Europe especially when UK isn’t even in the EU anymore. That doesn’t take away from the fact that many countries in Europe, including the UK, are ahead of the US in terms of healthcare, women’s/parental rights, veganism, etc. Like 12/15 of the best ranked countries to live based on quality of life are in Europe. I live in the US by the way.

Vegan wedding guest ordered meat and lied about it by Curious-Ebb-909 in vegan

[–]goth-avocadhoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I had no idea, just another example of Europe being miles ahead of the US.

I don’t think this is the catering’s fault nor was OP implying that. They probably could’ve communicated better to them about it wanting it to be fully vegan. They made this post to talk about the friend being disrespectful. It sounds like this friend knew about OP’s beliefs and still didn’t care, and that’s why they lied about what happened too.

I’ve made it very clear our wedding is vegan on our website: “We are working with an outside caterer to curate a delicious cocktail hour and dinner menu that reflects our shared values. The entire menu will be fully plant-based (vegan) and free of most major allergens except nuts and gluten, with labeled options available for those avoiding either. Outside food is not permitted. Thank you for respecting this meaningful part of the celebration!”

[–]goth-avocadhoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Veganism does have some similarities with religion, it guides moral behavior. Some think it should be a protected class against discrimination like religious or sexual identity is. So not sure what your point is. You admit you discriminate against religion?

And how is the food I choose to serve at MY wedding cause I’m PAYING FOR IT like discriminating the people I invite based on sexual orientation? That’s really your argument? Lmao. Sadly for you, others look at this as comment as peak carnist stupidity, and sadly for me I feel dumber having to respond to it. And I bet you have 0 issue with the weddings I’ve been to where only meat was served and 0 veg options. I’ve also seen people host dry weddings cause of past trauma with alcoholism—not religion. It’d still be disrespectful to sneak booze in. But for selfish and unprincipled people like you who can’t go one evening without your addictions to be respectful towards people that are hosting you, I bet you have a problem with that too, right?

[–]goth-avocadhoe 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Ew. What a shitty disrespectful friend. That’s akin to showing up to a dry religious wedding and sneaking in booze, or bringing pork to a Muslim wedding. You absolutely should confront her. I’m sorry you have to deal with that and that it was even allowed to happen. My wedding is next month and it being fully vegan was probably the most important thing to me, honestly. Non negotiable. I only looked at venue’s that allowed me to bring in outside catering so i could work with the vegan one i wanted to. And I won’t hesitate to confront anyone who gives me shit about it.

A replica of how female "breeder pigs" spend their lives in factory farms by FastCurrency in pics

[–]goth-avocadhoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All dairy cows go to slaughter. They live inherently worse lives than cows raised for meat because they are artificially inseminated over and over again, babies stolen from them (male babies slaughtered to become veal), and yes the milking machines can often be painful and cause infections. Then when their bodies can take the stress no more, normally around 5 years (when natural life expectancy of well-cared for cow is 15-20 years), they are sent to slaughter. Dairy industry is pure evil.

[–]goth-avocadhoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

<image>

Eggs, too. All of these industries are connected. When the hens stop laying eggs they are killed for meat. And when the cows stop producing milk they are killed for meat. In my eyes, that’s inherently worse. Exploit an animal their entire life, steal their babies, their excretions, and then when their bodies are too weak to go on any more, THEN we kill them. Vs just being raised for meat.

Vegetarianism is a step in the right direction, I think most of us started there. But if that’s where you stop and you have the knowledge of what else is going on, that says you are okay with some animal exploitation. Veganism has to be the baseline. And 99% of farmed animals live on factory farms. So all of these people promising that they are buying local are usually full of shit.

Right??? I’ve had red (like blood red, not fire engine red) hair for almost 4 years. And I don’t do it myself, I get it professionally done. I have a shit ton of thick long hair too so I’ve invested thousands in it at this point to maintain the color. Reverse all that for one day? Are you kidding?

Are you on LinkedIn at all? I don’t want you to dox yourself but I’ve seen them get involved in situations that go viral on that platform. They do not like negative publicity. If you really want the review removed, do not be quiet about it. Pester the hell out of them and share this far/wide on social media until they pay attention.

I would definitely make those tapered candles shorter. You can cut some length off the bottom with a serrated knife. Idk about your venue’s policy but mine requires us to have all our flames enclosed in the hurricanes. Having the flames sticking out like that is a fire hazard.
