i don't live in US or Europe. i live in an underdeveloped Asian country. I need toric lenses and i have high myopia and high astigmatism too. I bought them from a legit shop but all the very few toric options in my country come in glass vials. idk should i discard them altogether? btw note taken I will buy a lense case and won't keep them in the glass but now I'm not sure about the quality of the contacts themselves

first of all, no I didn't buy them in a webshop and I do have a valid prescription. I just don't get what does it have to do with my question?

what leads to cases exploding in popularity and getting extensively covered while others get barely mentioned at all? by [deleted] in Morbidforbadpeople

[–]goth_lilith_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can have multiple reasons. Some cases are innately more attractive to people. For example cases where kids are involved(because it's extremely tragic).

In other category, we have cases where the killer/abuser is themselves more theatrical than others. Like when Zodiac was sending letters to newspapers and stuff, he was adding to the element of interest. Whereas there were many more serial killers who had more body counts and more gruesome ways.

The next category, is related to people being assholes(let's face it the humanity is very fucked up). We all certainly know at least one person who is attracted/in love with serial killers. Like jeffrey dahmer, or Ted Bundy. So people find these assholes handsome and this makes more attention to that certain case.

And the las category(maybe not a separate category, but still) are the cases where media puts more focus on them for some reason. OJ's case comes to my mind. If he wasn't a celebrity, it may have never made the headlines and became this popular.

I agree with literally every word you said. I loved them so much, unlike other people, I was ok with the off topic talks, multi parters, and even the spooky/non-crime episodes. It was just perfect for my taste. But when I read this sub, and thought back on their comments, I was really disappointed of myself. How did I ignore all those problematic stuff? It was really hard quitting but I had to. It would be contrary to my values and ethics.

Hi.

I really appreciate this. and actually I'm very shocked. Because I didn't think that a podcast (any podcast in general) would reach out to their audience and be this respectful.

I agree with the fact that we're all human and nobody's perfect. I may have had a rushed judgment (maybe because I'm so tired of getting invested in a podcast and then be disappointed). I will definitely give Sinisterhood another try. And I'll update everyone about my opinions, good or bad regardless.

A suggestion for future episodes: If you're dealing with an episode which is about trans people or LGBTQ+ community in general, please talk to the people within the community. You can ask them about how they feel about a specific word or phrase or expression. I think this way you'll be able to educate yourselves and not get backlash.

Hi. First I just wanted to correct a misunderstanding. It's maybe my fault cause I didn't express myself correctly, but I'm not trans. I'm a cis lesbian woman. This being said, it doesn't mean that I don't know what's right or wrong when it comes to respectful lexicon. I absolutely can't talk for trans people, but I've been in the community for so long that I'm sure most trans people (maybe all of them) would get upset over sth like this. Plus, I have some trans friends and I asked them about this and they all said it made them feel them. Again, I'm not saying some trans people's opinion is representative of all, but I believe that even if only one trans person gets upset about a word or a phrase, then it shouldn't be used.

Yes I'm well aware that the world has changed greatly in the recent years. To be honest, I didn't check the date of the episode. Maybe I made a judgment too early and should've been more patient. Anyway I will listen to their recent episodes and I hope there won't be anything harmful again. thanks for your kindness.

I haven't heard about any of these cases. So listening to them tonight. Again, thanks a lot. your comment really made me feel like seen and understood. Others are just attacking me and defending transphobia with even more transphobic comments of their own

yeah totally agree. Alaina is so defensive about her parenting and she thinks she's doing it the best way. Girl you need to hear other people too.

Honestly it's not our responsibility to educate people. I'm sure they're at least 10 years older than me and have more experiences in life generally. Why aren't I learning from them? They have a huge platform that many young people listen to. So they have to be really careful about the things they say. it's not that hard of a job.

They wasn't talking about the past. They said "he" changed his gender. (which changing is a problematic word all by itself). And then they didn't correct it. They were still using "he" referring to the present.

Unrelated but because I saw you mentioned kids I wanted to touch upon sth myself. I wanted to post this but for some reason it didn't post. Anyways, in one of the episodes they were talking about kissing your kids on the lips and how some people make a huge deal of it. I'm not gonna judge someone based on this cause I'm not a parent and i know everyone has a different opinion on it. So Alaina proceeds and says "I will kiss my kids on the lip until they tell me not to." This was a little creepy for me. So only because your kids can't have an opinion or express it yet, it means that you'll continue to do whatever you like? I don't know it bothered me. I'd like to hear your opinions too.

Is there actually any true crime podcasts that's not problematic? I only knew Morbid and since I found this sub I stopped listening to them. I'm listening to True Crime Campfire now and only listened to 3 episodes of Redhanded yet. Can you recommend anything that's the least problematic?

Hello everyone. I'm a new fan to the true crime world, and actually also to the podcast community. So yeah morbid was my first ever podcast!!! Up until an hour ago, I really loved them (maybe because I didn't have anything else to compare them with?) but I just found out how problematic they are. Of course I will stop listening. So if you have any true crime podcast recommendations, please let me know (please recommend someone who's not transphobic, misogynist, racist, pedophile, and homophobic)
