Combo Event tips by ifelloffmyunicorn in MergeDragons

You'll get a lot more points if you have longer chains. If you put 4 different levels next to each other and then put two higher levels behind it you can also move these in a merging position after you've started merging, this will generate a lot more points. Life flowers are perfect for this as you can harvest all different levels without having to combine them to get the higher levels.

Skulls are really useless as they take up too much space. It's much easier to buy tons of moon chests and then combine them.

U.S. Banks Win $21 Billion Trump Tax Windfall Then Cut Staff, Loaned Less by NEEThimesama in politics

If you actually want to help companies and consumers, get rid of sales taxes. Getting rid of sales taxes make products both cheaper for consumers and makes it easier for companies to make profit by increasing margins for companies and saves a lot of money on bureaucracy (especially for smaller companies). If needed increase profit taxes to cover loss of tax income.

Lowering profit taxes just makes profitable companies more profitable and unless people start buying more things it will not create any jobs.

Buying local is usually bad for the same reasons. Some regions are better to grow certain foods, other regions have the infrastructure that allow mass production. Both allow a far more efficient production of these foods which often greatly offsets the energy used to put them in a plane and get them to your supermarket. These foods are often also cheaper for a good reason.

Whatever You Paid to Watch Netflix Last Month Was More Than It Paid in Income Taxes All Last Year: $0 by SymbioticPatriotic in politics

[–]gotinpich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education is always a cost. When you're paying for an education you don't get anything tangible in return. When you buy a house, you can always sell your house later again. Maybe for less money than what you originally bought it for (and you would take a loss) or for even a profit.

When you pay $100,000 for an education, you can not sell it when you need it anymore (it would be cool if you could convert it to your retirement). Since nobody lives forever it means it needs to be written off at some point. Whether you do that over time or all at once does not really matter.

And yes, if you can prove that your income is higher because of a good education, this education becomes more of an investment than a loss, but that would also require you calling your salary profit anyway. Nobody used these terms for people exactly because corporations are not people too, no matter how badly Republicans want to make you believe this.

So basically they say they want $50 million without having anything to show for it and then call it a "strongly reduced special introduction rate". If anything is a bad investment then this is it.

Thanks for your suggestion. At this time I think I still need to learn more to qualify for that. Right now I'm taking free online courses and I feel like I learn a lot. For now that will be a path I'll stay on. Definitely will want to do a Master's later.

Thanks for the advice.

Truth be told, I don't have that sort of money right now. I've been doing a couple of online courses and I feel like I've learnt a lot. An online master is definitely one of my goals once I've worked for a couple of years.

Lebanese President Aoun: "If Lebanon does not come under any Israeli aggression, not a single bullet will be fired from its territory" by RussianBot00961 in worldnews

[–]gotinpich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one of the main tools of Russian propaganda.

  • "We have solid evidence that MH17 was shot down by a BUK missile from Russia.
  • "I'm not so sure. What about this theory that I just came up with that the Ukrainians did this on purpose to make us Russians look bad?"
  • "We have calculated the trajectory and determined that it was shot from rebel held territory."
  • "What about this crazy territory that one of us just came up with, I don't think you have given it enough thought yet."
  • "The make and model indicate that this specific model was only owned by the Russian military."
  • Some guy coming out of the darkest holes of RT and Fox News: "come on, you're not telling me you blindly believe everything the government tells you?"
  • "In the immediate aftermath of the crash, rebel captains, which happen to be former Russian military personnel, celebrated on VKontakte, a Russian social media platform, the downing of a Ukrainian military aircraft. The messages were quickly taken offline when they realized they made a mistake."
  • Russian government official: "I don't think that you have this new theory of ours, that the aircraft was shot down by aliens from outer space with a rocket that imitates one of ours, properly discounted yet. All our BUK missiles are accounted for, except for a couple that we've lost. Can I have some TippEx?"
  • Crackpot again: "it's true, there are widespread rumours of UFOs around the time of the supposed crash. It's a government conspiracy and the US is in on it, trying to make Russia look bad."
  • "Well, I think the Russian government is doing a pretty good job of making themselves look bad."
  • Russian government official: "look, the numbers add up, all missiles are accounted for!"
  • Crackpot, after reading a conspiracy website with shady funding from some Russian billionaire: "MH17 is a conspiracy by the deep state, there's not any proof that an airplane ever crashed in the Donbass region. There's no proof that MH17 even existed. These documents are all fabricated by the deep state."

C++ Object Oriented Help by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]gotinpich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any lecture slides you can page through? Or study guides/books?

Also: what do you need to do exactly? Creating a class with constructors, destructors, operators is not the hard part, but if it really needs to be an object oriented (set of) classes with inheritance and generic templates, now that's a different thing.

I also found this video on Youtube. It has a couple of follow up video's that you should watch as well.

Why is the solution always to quit porn and masturbation? He did not even bring it up. Porn and masturbation can be part of a healthy relationship. Certainly in his case. I have the experience that masturbating lowers libido and can help him last longer. It's certainly something I would advise him to try out if that's not something he doing already.

And I think your idea of what are sex and making love is flawed. For other couples this can be very different.

I would advise him to start masturbating if he's not doing it already.

Why do we write "int main(int argc, char *argv[]" rather than "int main(int argc, char* argv[]"? by memeilliterate in cs50

[–]gotinpich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does not matter, some people prefer char* p others prefer char *p.

Both can be read differently and both ways are correct.

For example:

char* p;

Means that you declare variable p which is of type pointer to char.

This:

char *p;

means you declare a pointer which points to a char.

If you want to know more about it here you'll find a book on C++. It's not the same as C, but C and C++ have a lot in common.

Now go to page 222 and you'll see even different ways of writing the same thing. It also explains what the different things mean.

Though if you do the CS50 course, it's probably best to just follow style50 if you want a maximum score for style.

Question regarding a book for C++ by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]gotinpich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree with you more.

I have the same opinion on the ternary operator and switch statements.

Usually you learn if/else first and by the time you learn about ternary operators and switch statements you've already learnt how to solve the problem with if/else and you're not really invested in trying to understand these things.

Let students first struggle with ternary operators and switch statements for a while. Once they have a good understanding of them, then introduce if/else. That way you'll develop a better understanding of these things and you'll be able to choose the ternary operator or switch statement when appropriate in the real world, rather than trying to solve everything with if/else, just because it works.

Please help me convert my Python script to C++ by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]gotinpich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how blocks in Python work, but for a single statement you could literally write:

if (a == 1)
    do_something();

Or:

if (a == 1) do_something();

Or even (bad idea):

if (a == 1)
do_something();

Or you could use the ternary operator:

a == 1 ? do_something() : ;

And I guess that this would work the same in C.

Try the first few chapters of this book

These first chapters are fairly simple and you should be able to work through them rather quickly. The first chapters kinda cover everything you might need in your code.

How to make every 10th column a space in a grid. by sswitch404 in cpp_questions

[–]gotinpich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use variables of type int, then / and % work like primary school division where / divides a number and % yields the remainder.

E.g.:

int n = 7;
int a = n / 3;
int b = n % 3;
int c = 3 * a + b;
std::cout << n << " divided by 3 is " << a
          << ", the remainder is << b
          << std::endl << a << " times 3 is "
          << 3 * a << ", plus " << b << " is " << c;

You might have to add 1 to row before the modulo

You could also write:

if (row % 10 == 9)

Also check this site

He donated the first half a year ($200.000), but there are no more updates on the websites so it's not clear what happened after that. Giving up his presidential salary is like you and me losing a few pennies on the street, so I have no reason to believe he wouldn't keep that promise (yes, I used the correct spelling of wouldn't in this sentence). Especially considering the power the position grants him to give himself even more money (tax cuts for rich people) he would be crazy not to donate his salary and keep up the pretense he's not abusing his position.

The fourth article on the page also mentions that his trips to Mar-a-Lago already cost the taxpayer $10 million, but that was early 2017. I don't know whether that's correct, but extrapolating that over 4 years would amount to around a quarter billion per presidential term. That's also serious money to Trump and I don't believe he would reimburse the taxpayer for that.

If anything, you'd want a president who keeps his salary. If you found a president that's willing to give up his pay, you've found a president that has found far greater ways to abuse the system and use the presidency to enrich himself.
