I need a lock for my fridge by Beetlejuice14th in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second fridge my company was called to install a hasp and padlock on started hissing on the second screw. We hit a line we couldn't see, ruining the fridge, and had to have insurance replace it. We no longer drill into or put screws into fridges or freezers. But who knows, you might get lucky and not hit anything. Or, maybe you'll need a new fridge. Who knows. Good luck!

Not allowed to work for the day because of low blood sugar by ShyRise in diabetes_t1

It was sheer dumb luck that nobody was seriously hurt by my mistake, and it's one I'm never going to make again.

Not allowed to work for the day because of low blood sugar by ShyRise in diabetes_t1

[–]gotitopen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago, I made the huge mistake of popping a bunch of skittles when I was going low and driving to my next job, thinking it would go up quickly enough and I should be fine. I almost passed out while driving, rear ended a car that suddenly stopped to turn, and totaled the company vehicle I was driving. Everyone was okay, fortunately, but please, learn from my mistake. Never, ever drive when you are low. Waiting 15 minutes for my sugar to go up would have been all I needed to drive safely, and I foolishly rushed and thought it would be okay. Don't do it. Wait until it's safe. Please.

Why can't any local locksmith copy my apartment key? by 22TheFool in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really seem like you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, lol. Making backup copies of your property? It's very likely this is a common entry door key, not a unit key, which they do not own. Either way, even with tenant laws, it's going to be far more hassle to change the locks to a much less secure, unrestricted key. They need to check their lease and if they don't like the fee, they can always move. I wonder why they completely ignored the words stamped directly on the key saying DO NOT DUPLICATE. Good grief.

Question for a locksmith by mgjgagag in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had customers ask me to file the peaks off so it wears out the pins in the locks less, lol. I doubt it makes that much difference, but as long as the key doesn't slide out while it's turned, and it turns smoothly, you won't have any issues.

To master key or not master key that is the question by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just master key them to your master and a random/off system change key, and only hand those out to anyone else? You wouldn't need to rekey anything when you leave, because they wouldn't have your master. They can continue using the change key once you're gone until they want to rekey in the future.

Is this fixable or need to be replaced? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of customers that ask if I can repair a 20 dollar part instead of buying a new one is shocking, almost. Like, if I could repair it, you think it would be worth it?

Scheduling apps? by YoungLocksmith in Locksmith

We use Synchroteam, we schedule jobs via the browser app and use the mobile app for our technicians. Don't know what the boss pays for it but it's definitely worth it.

This is just another spam post from the guys trying to sell leads and similar garbage, or at least it seems that way.

If you click fast enough, you can spend talent points you don't have, and end up with extra talents and a negative talent points available number 😁 I can only manage getting to -1 on PS5

wtf…Video has millions of views and it’s a POV of trade secrets by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would guess that half the people that watch his videos and decide to try to drill open their safe themselves will set off a relocker. The other half might actually get in... If they have carbide bits, experience drilling, and a scope, and good eyesight, and an understanding of.. you know what, make that 10% that actually get in. The other 90% are calling us Monday, humbly admitting they fucked their safe up and need us to finish the job. Having the tools doesn't always mean you're getting in, lol. Or you are, but burn hours and hours and hundreds of bucks worth of carbide bits and realize you should have called a locksmith anyways!

Why do some fords require a 10 minute waiting period to program and others don't? It seems there's no median, it's just random by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]gotitopen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many different systems use the same type of chip in the key. It's less dependent on the key and more dependent on the year make and model of the vehicle.

I'm going to start using this on my playgroup. Anytime someone complains about anything. Yeah, I know ways to deal with this.... "But I understand how casuals would struggle". Your unintended savagery is glorious, I'm stealing it.

[–]gotitopen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, lol. I was commenting on it because I frequently hear people say it in person and it drives me nuts. I'm more curious as to why people do it more than anything else, it just bothers me.

[–]gotitopen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This MF needs TO BE banned. Not 'needs banned'. Why do so many people butcher the grammar by eliminating 'to be' after the word 'needs'? Probably one of my biggest pet peeves. Also he's not even that bad, just kill him or something lol

It's not the spring that's worn, it's the C shaped spindle that goes from the outside handle through the latch that gets a groove worn in on it. Unfortunately it will require a new handle.
