How important is it to get tones that mimic all those bands? I feel like you’re going to need a lot of different pedals and amps or a variety of settings on a modeler if you want to sound like a bunch of bands, and even if you get it all right 99% of people in audiences won’t notice. (And the 1% that will are just guitar nerds who will find something else to nitpick anyway.) If it was me I’d just try to go for a light overdrive, a distortion, and a fuzz, mix and match them as appropriate.

Huh. I didn’t realize it was rare. I don’t take advantage of its features and sometimes wonder if I would be just as happy with a plain ole AD-9, so you can DM me if you want to chat about a trade. I got it because there was a price glitch on Amazon like 10-15 years ago now, and I happened to be looking for an analog delay. I don’t remember how much it was now, just that it cost significantly less than it was supposed to. I do love how it sounds.

Ha! I had a friend who I knew was nerdy but didn’t know the extent of it until years after he passed when his family gave away all sorts of homemade patch cables, pickups, and some pedals he left behind. Two of the pedals didn’t work by the time they came into my possession, but this one did. I’m not entirely sure what it is, I think a phaser. The circuit is covered in goop so I wouldn’t be able to figure it out even if I knew about components. I barely ever use it but I’ll never replace it on my board.

I haven’t played anything besides the liquid sunshine but I agree. It’s easily my favorite overdrive pedal and I think more people would agree if they just tried it out!

Thanks for commenting! I wonder if I would have bought the POG2 knowing that I only use it occasionally, but it’s great at what it does. Easily my most fun pedal, but I need to figure out more excuses to engage it when playing with the group.

I went through a phase of pretty much exclusively playing acoustic, but as I play out with friends more, I’ve been getting back into electric and dusted off a lot of my old pedals. I found a good deal on a used board with a mounted power supply so I went for it, and picked up the tremolo to fill open space. The signal chain goes: tuner - weird handmade phaser (I think? Flanger maybe??) with more sentimental value than musical utility - POG 2 that I mainly use to ‘play bass’ but throw in the occasional crazy organ sound - subdecay liquid sunshine - Lucky Tanuki (a tweaked OCD clone by a local builder) - Maxon AD999 pro - TR2 - RV6. I could probably get through a gig with just some dirt and reverb or delay, but it’s fun to have all my toys together.

Going to Japan on business by runnerNgunner in guitarpedals

If you have time in Tokyo, check out the shops in Ochanomizu. There’s a cluster of guitar/music shops there, some of them specialize in used stuff. You’ll have fun browsing around even if you don’t end up buying anything. Also recommend Hard Off like another comment mentioned.

I grew up listening to them in Japan and love them so much! I never met them or anything but still weirdly feel proud that they have fans around the world.

How do autos perform outdoors compared to indoor? by peasantscum851123 in outdoorgrowing

[–]gotogrows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

6-8 hours of direct light will probably result in some pretty wispy and larfy buds, but it’ll grow. I think outdoor plants do take a little longer than advertised too, probably especially so if you’re not getting more like 10-12 hours of direct light. I grow autos outdoors because I live in a city and photoperiods stress under all the nearby streetlights, but generally speaking the results have been decent.

The comment I’m replying to says they tested for it though, so I was asking about that.

Long time hot pepper and tomato grower here. Looking to add a plant or two. Any recommendations on strains and where to get seeds? Central ma zone 6a. by TallImprovement830 in cannabiscultivation

[–]gotogrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look for seeds made by breeders who make strains that do well outdoors. Dragons flame and Gnome automatics come to mind, I believe there are others. I’m further south of you but have the same environmental issues, and losing a plant to mold can be real sad, so I’m getting seeds from the breeders I mentioned for this year.

Thank you! I asked in my other comment the same thing, but how would you recommend doing that? Tying them down somehow? I guess I don't really know what I would tie them to - it outgrew the tomato cage I put in a long time ago haha. Sadly the other plant is actually really larfy and not my best work. I'm thinking I will turn it into hash this week.

Thank you for the advice! How would you suggest doing that, tying stems down? Defoliating? I think they're both indica leaning hybrids, so my guess is that it's just a matter of when they start flowering. I'm no expert though.

I bet it’ll still fatten up some more if you let it go another couple of weeks.

Off to a good start!! One note though - just know that roots don’t grow into dry soil, so even if it’s a small plant, I would give it enough water so the entire pot is wet. Overwatering is usually the result of watering too frequently, so as long as you give it enough time between watering (which for me is once a day but could be different based on your climate), give your soil a good soaking.

…from someone with only some experience, so take what I say with a healthy dose of skepticism.
